  1. That only ever happened once, took a 80ft black pop down for free Will never happen again though I've set a minimum fee of £1.50 Always thinking you see.
  2. We seem to be getting more and more of these disputes where neighbours are arguing about over hanging trees. We usually try to not get involved and limit our advice. Now, can anyone please point me in the right direction so I can see exactly the laws that cover this type of problem? The advice I pass on is something along the lines of "you have a legal right to prune your neighbours tree back to the boundary as long as it doesnt conflict with any TPO's (I know this is also a grey area) or cause damge that will affect the health or amenity value. You have to pay, to owner doesn't and you must also offer the branches, logs back to the tree owner but if they dont want them you must dispose of the brash, you cant just throw it over there wall!" Advice to owner is "You have a duty of care to maintain your tree to a reasonable standard, you do not have to prune the tree back from your neighbours property." etc etc blah blah blah Any one with the internet can come up with all kinds of conflicting advice which they do! "The tree is trespassing on my property....It's causing a nuisance....They have to pay to get there tree pruned....I have to throw the branches back....It's the law that all leafy trees MUST be pruned?!!!!......Someone in the paper slipped on a leaf and claimed £5000 in compensation!!!!!" etc The whoppers I've heard lately! Is there something I can print off to show customers and irritated neighbours THE LAW, or doesnt it really exist because I cant find it. I want to make sure that I am giving the correct advice not only to cover myself but to hopefully stop feuding neighbours having there trees butchered to bits (not by me of course) If any one has managed to read this far and not fall asleep I would very much appreciate any info you can pass on.
  3. You need to find out what needs replacing on the saw to work out if its going to be worth it, eg a new barrel and piston could cost around £120-150 side crank casing's £80 each etc it can soon start to add up.
  4. I just ask what's the lowest quote they have then knock a quid off it:thumbup1: Works everytime
  5. Its will probably be because of the percentage the hole is compared to that of the size of the exhaust port. If it makes sense
  6. Lol you do come out with some corkers mate i gotta give you that The way I see it a more powerfull saw means less fatigue and quicker cutting, both mean I can go home earlier and less tired otherwise I may aswell use a bow saw.
  7. One day someone will make a perfect pair of chainsaw trousers, and possibly boots and maybe a helmet, and a top handle saw to go with it all. Oh and dont forget a chipper, stump grinder........
  8. That all sucks:thumbdown: I'd really feel a lot safer on scaffolding than working from a rope and harness Cost should have a lot to do with it, my day rate would have to at least double possibly more. If cost is irrelevant when it comes to safety then we should be using a 50 tonne crane with a basket where possible.
  9. I just couldnt be paying £200 for a pair of chainsaw pants that fell to bits no matter how comfortable they where.
  10. Footpath, highway, house etc etc. Stuff the tree can hit if it fails.
  11. We used to have 2 peeps in a bucket loads of times, as long as the other guy is well enough skilled then there s no problem whatsever. Its probably safer too
  12. I bought a 200t last year from Tavistock for around £400 inc vat and delivery. I shoulda bought one at the show 350 inc
  13. Surely thats not a 200t at that price?
  14. I've never had a prob with the fuel caps but the oil caps can be a bit dodgy sometimes. Sometimes they need a bit more of a push into the oil tank before turning.
  15. Boy or Girl I wouldnt advise going it alone straight from the off. Tickets dont mean your any good at tree work and experience doesnt mean an awfull lot either. IMO you need to be dedicated to this job to become a SKILLED professional which will take time and lots of hard work. My recommendation would be to try and get a foot in the door anywhere whether its with the LA or one of your local small firms. If its only a job as grounding at first then dont be disheartened( groundies sweat and break there back more than climbers anyhow) and its a very good way to watch and learn. I may be wrong and you might be lightening around a tree but if not dont expect miracles over night. Good luck, welcome to the forum and above all dont believe everything you read or hear

How does a 357 compare to a ms260 weight and size wise?
  17. I'd say youve got nothing to loose by removing the sleepers and feeding/decompacting the ground. At least you would have a load of sleepers to sell on ebay, good firewood I hear I've seen a very large yew that had been transplanted, basically ripped outa the ground with an excavator then moved with a 50 ton crane, it looked very bad for the first 5 years then picked up and as far as I know is still alive.
  18. Dont try and kill yourself being the fastest person to get up a tree. The speed comes in the work in the tree, from what ive seen a lot of peeps have accidents before they've got there anchor point in.
  19. No worries fellas I suppose I was just being a bit touchy after all the hard work I put into thinking up the poll, musta took me a good 3 or 4 minutes to sort it all out
  20. So does he really think that he is entitled to take your logs whenever he wants and you shouldnt be able to do a thing about it! Idiot people bleedin annoy me
  21. Yep I know it is an arborists forum I asked the quest ion on not a forestry one. # The HSE want top handle saws banned anyway I doubt this poll would be a contributing factor! Looks like next time I try a poll then I'll have to get a team of professional statistical analysists in to try and keep everyone happy No doubt the poll would comprise of at least 100 questions worded very carefully which would probably mean that on one would be at all interested. Anyhow It was useful to me and a few others it would seem.
  22. If I had a table that nice and that expensive the dog would have been well slapped off there by now Edit could'nt attach the image
  23. A real man would be holding on with one hand and a 395 in the other. The only piece of rope in site would be from the saw to his belt loop on a pair of levi 501's, and of course not a harness in sight.
