  1. Is the guy in the photo waering a Svensk Tradvard Skybelt? I'm after one to replace my old un but I cant find the exact make and model now that its all changed. Not sure if there made by Komet or Cresto they all look similar. They either have hard seats, no seat, or have a bridge.
  2. Allright calm down calm down! I never dis say I was a hazard tree expert. I retract my statement in my previous post and say just remove the limb problem or not
  3. If your taking about what I said then I think you dont know what sarcasim is I very much doubt that it is illegal to ask what what other competitors quotes are. I never do that anyway doesnt give a good impression to the customer I think. You need to do what Dean says, work out your overheads etc then the most important bit of working out how long the job will take, thats the hardest bit. Well it is if you have a lot of competition otherwise charge what you like
  4. A catch chain? what would you attach it too? I'm guessing the tree so you are going to be messing with the trees current state or its adaptive growth." whether it runs through a polly hose or not. It looks like a decent sized limb which would take a hell of a lot to stop it hitting the deck. I'd probably go with what others have said in either reduce the weight or cable brace it.
  5. Surgical spirit is supposed to toughen your hands up. And dont use gloves there for girls

    no fear

Every now and then take a look at what your doing and have a think if your happy about it. I neither fear nor respect chainsaws, they are a power tool they do what you tell them to do. You f**k up and they will bite you, If you want to know what it feels like ask a college wearing a pair of steely's to give you a right good kick in the hand, leg, arm, face, neck etc then have a bit of a slash with a silky.
  8. Narr look after them properly and you can easily get 10+ years
  9. Hold the saw with one hand and the pull start with the other, release the saw without jerking it. ie drop it slowly. The saw should hang a bit on the pull start then very slowly drop, it shouldnt drop really quickly indicating there is no compression.
  10. The problem is it aint so common I'm surprised that some of the people I've met over the years can walk and talk at the same time
  11. Cheers for the info fellas Looks like we could do with some nice statute laws to clear things up I'll have a look about for that book by Charles Mynors you never know what might show up on ebay! It is probably best left to the solicitors, that or the gypo's!
  12. Always tune with the chain on and properly tensioned. As for the revs could be an air leak, check the rubber intake pipe that goes from carb to cylinder for damage splits etc, also make sure it is fully seated on the cylinder. Check the small thin pipe that goes from carb(well black plastic nipple on handle) to the cylinder see if thats split missing or not on properly. Make sure the H and L needle are at the standard setting before messing about with them (1 full turn out )
  13. That only ever happened once, took a 80ft black pop down for free Will never happen again though I've set a minimum fee of £1.50 Always thinking you see.
  14. We seem to be getting more and more of these disputes where neighbours are arguing about over hanging trees. We usually try to not get involved and limit our advice. Now, can anyone please point me in the right direction so I can see exactly the laws that cover this type of problem? The advice I pass on is something along the lines of "you have a legal right to prune your neighbours tree back to the boundary as long as it doesnt conflict with any TPO's (I know this is also a grey area) or cause damge that will affect the health or amenity value. You have to pay, to owner doesn't and you must also offer the branches, logs back to the tree owner but if they dont want them you must dispose of the brash, you cant just throw it over there wall!" Advice to owner is "You have a duty of care to maintain your tree to a reasonable standard, you do not have to prune the tree back from your neighbours property." etc etc blah blah blah Any one with the internet can come up with all kinds of conflicting advice which they do! "The tree is trespassing on my property....It's causing a nuisance....They have to pay to get there tree pruned....I have to throw the branches back....It's the law that all leafy trees MUST be pruned?!!!!......Someone in the paper slipped on a leaf and claimed £5000 in compensation!!!!!" etc The whoppers I've heard lately! Is there something I can print off to show customers and irritated neighbours THE LAW, or doesnt it really exist because I cant find it. I want to make sure that I am giving the correct advice not only to cover myself but to hopefully stop feuding neighbours having there trees butchered to bits (not by me of course) If any one has managed to read this far and not fall asleep I would very much appreciate any info you can pass on.
  15. You need to find out what needs replacing on the saw to work out if its going to be worth it, eg a new barrel and piston could cost around £120-150 side crank casing's £80 each etc it can soon start to add up.
  16. I just ask what's the lowest quote they have then knock a quid off it:thumbup1: Works everytime
  17. Its will probably be because of the percentage the hole is compared to that of the size of the exhaust port. If it makes sense
  18. Lol you do come out with some corkers mate i gotta give you that The way I see it a more powerfull saw means less fatigue and quicker cutting, both mean I can go home earlier and less tired otherwise I may aswell use a bow saw.
  19. One day someone will make a perfect pair of chainsaw trousers, and possibly boots and maybe a helmet, and a top handle saw to go with it all. Oh and dont forget a chipper, stump grinder........
  20. That all sucks:thumbdown: I'd really feel a lot safer on scaffolding than working from a rope and harness Cost should have a lot to do with it, my day rate would have to at least double possibly more. If cost is irrelevant when it comes to safety then we should be using a 50 tonne crane with a basket where possible.
  21. I just couldnt be paying £200 for a pair of chainsaw pants that fell to bits no matter how comfortable they where.
  22. Footpath, highway, house etc etc. Stuff the tree can hit if it fails.
  23. We used to have 2 peeps in a bucket loads of times, as long as the other guy is well enough skilled then there s no problem whatsever. Its probably safer too
  24. I bought a 200t last year from Tavistock for around £400 inc vat and delivery. I shoulda bought one at the show 350 inc
