  1. I have PL and EL for my own work but it didn't come with me when I freelanced. Why on earth would anyone want to take all the risk?
  2. Is it better for the environment in regard to the carbon footprint required in manufacturing it? Also interested in any response to Andys comment about is it really any better for us.
  3. Half of you must be bonkers! Not wanting or expecting to get decent money and in it for the crack!
  4. You could do what some people who start up around here do. Phone me up or email me pretending you have x amount of conifers to fell that are about x high and ask how long it would take, how many men would I be using, what equipment I will be bringing and how much I will be charging if it takes me a day.
  5. Your going to use it one handed and either cut your left hand/arm by crossing it over /under the saw or get a nasty kickback to the face since its very hard to control kickback one handed. Its because they are so easy to use one handed which is great for working with but a lot more dangerous to use.
  6. Is it brand new?
  7. I really do need to start doing that tbh. I very rarely if ever ask what others have quoted when we have won the work. Its just one of those things when you dont do it its hard to remember to do it.
  8. Just wondering why you think you under priced it when it only took 2 men an easy day? If thats all it was I'd be lucky to win that at £300-350 round here.
  9. That would be interesting. Lets just hope they actually gave it to someone to do a bit of work with. Rather than cutting a few sticks in a lab. IE...... hope they have done some R&D this time!
  10. Porting is altering the size and shape of the ports exhaust, intake and transfer, not necessary all of them though. This affects compression and port timing so it cant really just be done willy nilly ie making them bigger etc. With a big bore you usually buy a new cylinder and piston kit that has been designed to increase the CC. Or you might be able to fit the piston and cylinder from the next saw model up ie ms660 to a ms460, btw thats just a guess so dont go out and buy the above. You cant really mill the cylinder as it is coated with nikasil I think rather than a steel liner like the older saws/2 stroke engines.

    wood pigeon

I tried to wring the neck of a pigeon. Turned up at a clients to do a bit of tree work, she was upset that one of her dogs had half killed a pigeon and could we finish it off. Picked it up, grasped its head, spun it around and pulled its head clean off! She didnt look to happy and disappeared straight back inside. Best to just to stamp on them I think.
  12. Porting a saw isnt a very straight forward thing to do. You can easily wreck a cylinder by doing it wrong mate. A muffler mod is an easier more straight forward option. A big bore is where you increase the CC of the engine by buying an oversize cylinder and piston.

    whats going?

Roger that. He was terrible though.
  14. If the insurance companies are going to start charging newbies more, than I hope they are going to charge me less for not claiming in 15 years. There not cherry picking there clients I hope. I would also like to see the reason why they dont want to insure younger less experienced tree workers. Are there really that many people claiming on their insurance? I dont know any that have. The excess is like £500 so that must surely cover the majority of minor incidents.

    whats going?

Tbh looking at them play, I think, they think, they are in training for the 2012 Olympics badminton team. That or there not very good at their job.
  16. I dont tbh. They will just operate without insurance.
  17. I assume the groundie wasnt about so the log took the whipping. Anyway nope no handle, sry. Well nothing that would pass as a working handle anyway.
  18. Thanks for the info. About time, someone must be doing a bit of R&D
  19. Are there any holes/slots in the metal handle to hold a combi spanner?
  20. Yeah you aint wrong about the tearing. There is nothing worse I think. Thinking back I have prob pruned more than I think I have but that was slash and hack on line clearance so caring about trees didnt matter much back then, ish. Thanks for the info. I shoulda took more notice but iirc the tree must be a 45 footer with dbh of maybe 24"
  21. Is there any info if pruning an elm may help with infection of DED? I know that sounds like I'm trying to infect an elm but I'm not. Got a decent ish sized one(the only ones I see are shrub/hedge size usually) that may need pruning (phone lines etc) but was thinking if it may create a path for infection I might try and persuade them not to prune it. Any info mucho appreciated. Oh it looks very healthy with no signs of leaf discolouration die back etc.
  22. Ah well there are worse places to get trapped in. I hope it was the beer garden and not the tree. I hope they werent injured. I hope they dont read this.
  23. Shhhhh dont say that out loud mate. If the training NPTC boys see that they will be conjuring up all sorts of new units. CS60-How to deal with customers over the phone.
  24. Good to see you found it:thumbup1: Whats the reason if any for the massive fees in buying it, anyone know? I would think that it should really be free on the net to DL or at a more reasonable price than £86:sneaky2:
  25. As long as the saw is still in good nick and it hasn't been running lean and scored the barrel then for about £70 I'd say it's worth replacing.
