You think that happened by chance? it was fought for. So you could be cosy "for a generation or two". I'll frame it in a way you can comprehend, William Wallace fought for his freedom from English oppression, he died trying to achieve that freedom, right now, you're so far away from the kind of man William Wallace was you'd need the hubble telescope positioned at the far end of the Milky Way to grasp the vast chasm between you and Wallace. He would not have been the kind of man to sit and utter the self defeatist words like you just have.

If you follow your argument to it's logical conclusion you'll ask the exact same question of the Muslim Ottoman Empire that reigned for over 500 years committing atrocity after atrocity on it's colonial subjects. But you wont will you? because it was Muslims committing the atrocities wasn't it. It doesn't fit your anti-west grievance narrative. You haven't the faintest grasp of history do you Mull? well... other than reciting Robert Burns out loud and watching Braveheart on repeat every night. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Genocide The Armenian Genocide was the Ottoman government's systematic extermination of its minority Armenian subjects inside their historic homeland, which lies within the territory constituting the present-day Republic of Turkey. The total number of people killed as a result has been estimated at between 800,000 to 1.5 million .

It makes perfect sense for Syrians to stay close to their homeland in neighbouring muslim countries who are part of the Islamic world. Why would they want to go to Europe anyway? Europe is the home of free-market capitalism, a free press, meritocracy, consensual government, religious tolerance, equality between the sexes, and individual freedom, these ideas represent the polar opposite of the Islamic way of life. We've seen the divisive consequences of multicultural separatism here in the UK, you want more of that? Think about it, given the challenges of facing strange customs, traditions, and languages, these new migrants naturally find it difficult to achieve rapid parity with hosts. Then millions of potential new muslim immigrants into Europe buoyed by their sheer numbers can translate into a powerful political constituency — all the more so if it's angry, unassimilated, and always being replenished by new waves of arrivals. As for the Owen Jones quote, Owen Jones has just appeared at the Sinn Fein summer school in Ireland. According to Sinn Fein’s own newspaper, Owen used the opportunity to praise Sinn Fein’s ‘progressive’ politics, and suggested that people take inspiration from the 1916 Easter Rising. This exposes what a sham the far-left’s attitude towards political violence really is. Owen Jones isn’t the first person of his ilk to have supported Sinn Fein. For decades there has been a line-up of far-left figures who have done the same. For instance the new Labour leader – Jeremy Corbyn was chumming up to Sinn Fein even while their military wing was blowing up ordinary pub-goers, shooting farmers in the head and planting bombs in Britain’s shopping centres. Quoting Owen Jones on the subject of immigration is strange when you consider he advocates political violence. Here's where multiculturalism leads us - [ame= ] [/ame]

So do all other reasonably minded people in Europe. The Prime Minister of Hungary Victor Orlan has had the courage to point out something which is obvious but anathema to the politically correct elites of Europe, namely, that immigration on the current scale will result in Europeans becoming a minority in their own continent with a consequent loss of European values. The mainstream media and politicians in Britain and the rest of Europe are voraciously feeding the public what amounts to unashamed propaganda to persuade them to accept not merely huge numbers of Third World immigrants now, but an ongoing and ever increasing stream in the not too distant future. These politically correct idiots think they're safe from the effects of mass immigration, but if it continues at it's current rate their children and grandchildren will not be so lucky.

It wasn't banter between Celtic/Ranger's fans, he used the word hun when speaking to other Celtic fans on a Celtic forum. He's a bigot and you're one too by default for voting for him, especially seeing as you had the O'Hara 'hun' information before you voted. You're being represented in Westminster by a religious bigot who hates Protestants, well done, a great example of the SNP's new, more inclusive and fairer society. I remember your arguments for independence being weak, but I don't remember them being as neutered as your post above, apples and barrels..... is that the best you've got. Why do SNP MP's even sit in Westminster anyway, if they were genuine nationalists of real political conviction they'd do the same as Sinn Fein and boycott Westminster. But they wont will they, because they're all happy to sit on the Westminster gravy train and lap up the London lifestyle like a bunch of half baked provincial town councillors on an all expenses paid 'research' trip to see the capital's transport infrastructure in person. Been a lot of talk about pigs on this thread lately, here's some proper pigs with their snouts well and truly in the trough

As an SNP voter you should be questioning any corruption your party's MPs or MSPs are involved in. Brendan O Hara (Your SNP MP) for instance is a religious bigot and you seem happy with that simply because he is SNP. He posted this as Spikeybhoy on a Celtic internet forum on Scott Brown's signing in 2007 - “For those worried about the fee, think of it as £3.5million for the player and £1million to shove it up the huns. A great piece of business!” another post from 2008 “I reckon the point he’s trying to make is that we and the hun come from the same part of the world, share similar upbringing in terms of the influences around us and are by and large from the same demographic. Yet the hun CHOOSE to behave in the manner they do and we do not.” it's all here in the nationalist rag that is The Herald, funny how they're retaining a small does of objectivity despite being obviously pro SNP/pro Independence yet people like you slavishly toe the party line. Petition calls for would-be SNP MP Brendan O'Hara to stand down as a candidate over use of word 'hun' (From Herald Scotland) Even SNP MSPs are waking up to the sycophants within their ranks - MSP attacks subservient colleagues on SNP backbenches (From Herald Scotland) .

that's right Mull, make allowances for the corruption, it does have a tartan tinge to it afterall.

If you're doing it for the accuracy reason your wasting your time, energy, fuel and saw hours doing it that way. You don't need to cut the buttresses off - make your notch, scribe your backcut and use that scribe marking at the sides to make reducing cuts on each side to remove the curved fibres of the buttresses, don't go too far in on either side as you don't want to ruin your hinge, just the same depth as you would if you were cutting the entire buttress off. Then continue on with your backcut in the same kerf. there's various other methods of removing the buttress fibres without the need for cutting away the whole buttresses themselves. The angle of your notch ie 60 degrees and the quality of your hinge (optimum size for stem diameter, species, conditions etc) is far more important for felling accuracy than removing buttress fibres. In fact, the effect of removing buttress fibres in relation to achieving a more accurate fell is of so little significance as to be almost negligible when considering your approach to felling a tree. Buttress removal in general is a throwback to forestry for the reasons other people have already mentioned.

The ISA Cert Arb is a well respected qualification in the USA. It tells a potential employer you have a good understanding of trees and tree care. Most of the better companies operating around the bigger cities and towns would see great benefit of a climber having the ISA Cert. You can also use it to help negotiate a higher pay grade.

Wouldn't touch indian food from a takeaway or restaurant even if I was dying of starvation. Same goes for Chinese. If you people knew how the food was prepared and what it contained you'd also never eat either again. There's also the issue of not knowing wether the meat is ritually slaughtered halal, throat slitting Islamic sharia style no pre stunning of the animal. I wouldn't eat in KFC, Subway or Pizza Express because they serve halal meat. Also because the food is highly processed trash.

I've used the Zeppelin for life support in the past using two 13mm climbing lines, was part of an SRT system, was great for that application. Comes undone very easily after loading when you break the spines in a similar way to a Butterfly. I've used it on ropes of similar diameter but not vastly different and it worked fine, even used it with a 13mm single braid and 1/2" 3 strand polyprop but not for heavy rigging or pulling etc. Used it with big double braid bull ropes (16mm/20mm) for a static pull (not excessively heavy loads) and it was fine, comes undone no problem after loading. It's like all knots, it has to be tied, dressed and set properly or it's not going to function properly. It's a knot you should choose over a sheet bend for tying two ropes together, the sheet bend is dangerous when used on heavy loads especially if the ropes are of different construction/materials but a similar diameter. should look like this when set properly .

Cheers for the review Reg, good description. Had just assumed it would be a 2nd grade harness lacking the refinement of the best harnesses. Are the legloops as good (comfortable) as the Kolibri? Quick few words on the Kolibri.....after about 7/8 years of using the Kolibri I decided to renew with the Kolibri Click, essentially the same well built/designed harness but with the addition of quick release leg buckles. Was looking forward to not having to step through the old legloops of the Multislide Unfortunatley, the Click a disappointment when compared with the Multislide designwise. By adding the quick release buckles they designed it in such a way (capturing the Front Ds within the legloops) that the range of sideways movement of the legloops is restricted and at times can make for unbearable ball crushing work positions (especially on longer branchwalks, leaning out sideways etc). Try as you might you can't slide the solid leg loop around and away from your bollocks because the legloops only have a small amount of sideways movement unlike the Mulitslide. Adjusting of the various parts of the harness doesn't work either. It seems they had to restrict the movement of the legloops because the quick release buckles would have been drawn into the front Ds. You'll be able to see from these pics the main problem area. Mainstream media, modern imperialism and the violence caused.
scotspine1 replied to tommer9's topic in The Lounge
Tommer, don't be so naïve mate, the vast majority of people in the west are educated to the point where almost everything that happens in politics is viewed with a sceptical eye. Some even look on the current political situation with abject cynicism (me for instance), and these people wont be anti-globalisation protesters wearing Vendetta Guy Fawkes masks or hard left activists, they'll be normal everyday folk who see the majority of politicians for what they are, self serving liars. There are legitimate grievances in the world, there are genuine victims of war, oppression and political corruption. The problem with taking your point of view is that these genuine cases get lost in the mire of half baked conspiracy theories and farcical agendas that get wrapped up in "west against the rest" diatribes so beloved of multi-millionaire imbeciles like Russell Brand, David Icke and Michael Moore. You talk about people having 'blind faith' in US/UK/NATO/western foreign policy but you displayed the same kind of unquestioning blind faith in that website Global Research. You posted a link by a Serbian politician who worked for Milosevic when he was carrying out genocide on Muslims in Bosnia as a way to support your argument that NATO is some kind of dark force in the world, you see the irony there? Remember Tom, the world is essentially run by civil servants, government advisors and 100,000s of political lobbying groups each trying to influence the sitting governments. It's not run by the illuminati or the Freemasons, there is no New World Order, humans are too imperfect for that kind of venture to ever be successful. . -

scotspine1 replied to tommer9's topic in The Lounge
tommer, if you're going to try to deflect the discussion away from the point of reference then there really is very little point in continuing with this thread. I was referring to NATO rescuing the Muslims of Bosnia from ethnic cleansing by the Serbs (have you not heard of the Srebrenica Massacre?) you then ignored that major world event and chose to post a subjective article by a former Serbian politician (who used to work for Slobodan Milosevic, the very man who instigated the genocide of Bosnian Muslims) which is bordering on propaganda in it's one sided viewpoint. By doing this it makes it look like you supported the genocide against the Muslims of Bosnia, is that your stance? you would've wanted the eradication of an entire race of people at the hands of the Serbs (under Milosevic). If it wasn't for NATO there would be no Bosnian Muslims. You seem to have a very poor understanding of history. It's always very suspect when people display strong opinions on the state of the world when they have no grasp of history, they choose instead to copy and paste 2nd hand articles from a single website in an attempt to further their confused narrative. . -

In 1995 (20 years ago) NATO rescued the Bosnian Muslims from genocide by bombing the Serbian forces who were intent on carrying out the ethnic cleansing of all Bosnian Muslims. -
great vid, quality climbing and rigging.
-
yes it's the idea that's flawed, the foundation of any rigging operation is to minimise the risk to the climber not increase it. nobody here has an issue with unorthodox techniques, it's just that the unorthodox technique of cutting multiple gobs in a stem you're about to rig from is at best pointless and at worst counter intuitive to the human instinct for survival. In short, it's crap.
-
Joseph, you're instincts are right mate, it's a bad idea. It's also an exercise in pointless messing about for no good reason. It's like one day they stood looking at a tree trunk and thought, "Lets come up with a stupid shortcut that makes our life a tiny bit easier and at the same time increases the risk of serious injury or death"

Forces involved with snatching using a block
scotspine1 replied to Badgerado's topic in Rigging and roping
the first thing all trainee climbers should learn is how to dismantle a tree with just a single rope for rigging, that includes vertical sections it's the best way to understand how friction is the most important part of the rigging system -
Forces involved with snatching using a block
scotspine1 replied to Badgerado's topic in Rigging and roping
there's no great science to where you tie the half hitch despite what you read in this thread basically you place it high enough to stop it rolling off the butt-end of the timber as the section inverts and is caught by the rigging the relative distances between the block, cut and half hitch is not as important as some people think, the 3 critical positions will nearly always fall within safe parameters mainly due to the work position of the climber ie the climber is not going to tie the block 6ft below the cut or tie the half hitch 6ft above the cut because to do so would be very time consuming and pretty damn stupid. The main thing is you tie the half hitch and running bowline well so they dont fail when the timber is rigged. on the science being discussed in this thread, someone could research then write up a 40,000 word thesis on half hitch placement when rigging down a tree trunk. This research however would not be able to give a definative answer on the optimum position of the half hitch because we're working with non uniform objects, large organic structures of infinite variety and structural strength. . -

Reg, Your first quote implies you're manipulating the contractor into believing they don't have the ability or never will have the ability to do the job themselves, thereby creating the illusion they need to use your services. Your second quote implies you actually believed the contractor when they told you their sob stories of how underbid the job was and how hard it was to run a tree service thereby you fell for the illusion that the contractor was struggling financially so he couldn't pay you any more money than you could negotiate. Either way, it seems the people you've been working are either A - extremely gullible or B - very smart businessmen. . -
Not one person in the UK thought he was a drunken laughing stock, you're ill informed and ignorant if that's your general view of how he was perceived by the people of the UK. He would've also been the first person to distance himself with comparisons to JFK and Ghandi. Mick, let's face it, you're post above was a pitiful attempt at trying to be funny or make some kind of half baked observation about society. On both levels it was a spectacular failure and worst of all, it just makes you look stupid.

one of the few honest, decent and authentic voices left in politics, real shame he's gone at 55, far too early
