  1. black and decker/bosch powerfile or similar, not 100% sure if this will be the same for a 530 but it works very well on my 528, remember you're only wanting to put an edge on it so dont go daft and ruin the rollers. The top roller will swing out on it's arm making it really easy to sharpen, this way you can turn it and pretty much find the best angle to hold the powerfile to get a good edge . The lower roller is a little bit of a hassle, you have to keep turning it so the individual blade you're sharpening sits at just the right angle to bring the powerfile in through from the feed hopper side. Those roller blades look a bit dull, but there's still enough there to put a nice sharp edge on them.
  2. Difflock is right on that, it's fairly common in some traditional societies to let their toddlers play with axes, knives, spears etc. Think about it, these tools will be the means to which these kids survive as adults so best let them get familiar with them at an early age. There's a fad amongst lefty trendy liberal types here to let their kids do the same, it's a very stupid idea though for obvious reasons. Then you got just plain old irresponsible parents like difflock who leave machetes and other sharp implements lying around where the kids might find them .
  3. You wonder what Ed Miliband thinks now, "how did I get it so badly wrong, a big carved stone in Hastings? why? why did I agree to it?" The stone carving in Hastings reminded me of another laughable Labour PM wannabe, Neil Kinnock, when his advisors told him,"Neil....you've got to be more American Neil, be Presidential" and this is what happened - the guy was Welsh for gods sake it's still a classic by any standards....... [ame= ] [/ame]
  4. Difflock, was just having a laugh at your assumptions about the "very very very black Dr." with his "tribal scars" and apparent approval of you letting your toddler play with a machete.
  5. The SNP is the unflushable jobby of UK politics, it just keeps coming back. Urban Dictionary: Jobby
  6. The words in bold? why do you think that would be the case?
  7. matelot, read this book and all will become clear -
  8. You could apply the same logic to many 'safe' Tory seats.
  9. Looks like an Efco 132. The Jonsered 2139 has black handles and is almost the same saw as the old Husky 338xp, not sure if Jonsered plan to do a version of the 540 but they have done a version of both the 550 and 560 Jonsered 2260
  10. nice work Steve, cracking weather for it, the Frank Black put me in mind of the Pixies, haven't listen to them in years.
  11. nice vid, enjoyed that, cheers for posting. I take it there was a good reason for not felling the whole tree into the field before the oilseed rape was planted or after harvesting? Also, just a small thing of little importance but did the big section at the end land on the steel cable? cause any damage? Cheers again.
  12. tricky looking climb, well done Steve.
  13. We're constantly being told by the politically correct and other leftwingers that we need mass immigration because there are jobs British people wont do and we need to import people to do those jobs. This is one of the most racist arguments you will hear in support of immigration. It's saying there are jobs British people wont do and really shouldn't do, they shouldn't even be encouraged to do because we will bring in people from poor countries around the world who are willing to work for nothing to provide us with cheap labour. Then you have that other racist argument from the left that we should go around the world and cherry pick the best nurses, doctors, scientists and other professionals who have been educated in their own countries and welcome them to the UK to make sure they benefit us instead of their home countries, this is racism. If you use either of these arguments to support immigration you are a racist. .
  14. nice one Alex, cracking weather for it by the looks of it. Some petty big sections hitting the road near the end, guess you weighed it all up. Sling tied too high at 2.30 in 2nd vid? or did you need that to clear the fence?...butt end of branch takes a nasty ping off the cut but looked like you were in the right spot anyway work position wise. Cheers for posting.
  15. excellent video, cheers for posting
  16. cheers for that explanation of the set up in the vid Reg. Makes sense now, liked the vid... good demo of the LD in action. Jonny, Buckingham Portawraps are all we use (and probably ever will) and we regularly dismantle big trees with them. Never had a single issue relating to safety or efficiency with them. Recently started using X rings with the Buckingham portawrap and have found the combination pretty good.
  17. if you're letting the timber run the flopping is of so little significance it's almost negligible as a consideration so long as you get most of the slack out prior to rigging. When blocking or negative rigging/snatching.....either with a bollard of floating device like a Buckingham Port a Wrap you always get slack being created in the rigging line as the piece topples off the top. Unless that is if you crank up a Hobbs, GRCS or Reg's twin bollard and that new thing he's created to pre-tension the line piano wire tight. But then it's not essential if you're letting the timber run. Pre-tensioning would become more of an issue if you had to snatch a section to a immediate stop over a roof etc. watch in this vid at 2.33 look for the line slackening then grabbing the bollard - [ame= ] [/ame] .
  18. I thought the whole purpose of the top tie off (sling) with that LD was to eliminate the drop you get with a buck porty as the rope sinks just before the timber hits the rigging? like that LD was suppose to sit almost static like a bollard?
  19. try a swabish instead of a prussik tied like so, the swabish is basically an asymmetrical prussik which breaks a lot easier when you use the micro pulley to advance the hitch. It's also a better hitch for descending , a lot smoother and more manageable than the prussic.
  20. nice vid that Matty. quality work, cheers for posting
  21. probably a good idea as that's where there could be issues with wear especially if you cranked up the tension and used the line for a long period of time. Cheers for the pics David. Also interesting pics and info in the follow up posts
  22. there was a very simple and safe way they could've finished that tree from that point, in fact there's 4 other options I can see using the equipment they had on site, but they chose the most dangerous way, as you say, very lucky.
  23. try a little WD40 on all moving components of the brake, then wipe down, don't flood the place with it, seen it work on the same problem with a MS461.
  24. The police were idiots in this case, absolute clowns. What they did represents just how far Britain has come in the last 50 years, all of it downhill. The sheer stupidity of their pathetic actions against the kid and her father beggars belief. TimberCutterDartmoor, you're posts in this thread are a disgrace. Honestly Jon, you;ve lost the plot and turned from a relatively decent bloke into some kind of demented fascist hell bent on a police state where it's the norm for braindead coppers to harass 4 year old kids on their way to school. get a grip of yourself. .
  25. he's not well Mull, I clocked that too. Apparently you can't book him months in advance, you can only get him at short notice because of his problem. This'll probably be his last public appearance going by his confused and vague answers. Sad really. Dont you remember they dragged him out right in the last days of the IndyRef and everyone was like, 'how come he's only appearing now?' .
