  12. i have always laughed at people who ported saws thinking that they are probably blunt or just like the sound of loud saw. however not being totally happy with the performance of my stihl 260 i removed the exhaust from my redundant 240 and gave it a go. ive drilled two 7mm holes in the end of the baffel and richened the carb so that its running a about 13500 rpm at full throtle. i have found the saw performs alot better:icon14:, but i am not happy with the increased noise:thumbsdown: i am going to experiment with the size of port to try and increase performance without overdoing the noise. i would be interested if anyone has experimented and/or achieved something that could be regarded as acceptable, or should i just repair my old 254xp?

    Full Chisel?

theres a greater risk of kick back/vibration from a full chisel on a low powered saw. i guess thats a double, right tool for the right job, or right chain for the right saw:alberteinstein:

    Full Chisel?

well why dont you put it on a proper saw then:wave: i personnally wont buy anything else other than a full chisel, if im cutting bad timber i find a part worn or a damaged chain and just use that. why do new chains always manage to find the only nail in a 40foot stem?:cussing:

    Full Chisel?

agreed, but not as disapointed as dinking a new full chisel:cussing:

    Full Chisel?

the semi chisel is a good allround cutter. if you have got plenty of power go for the full chisel. if your running a long bar go for a semi.

  19. lovely job:icon14: the use of timber has got to be more sypathetic to the trees needs and eisier on the eye too. im not a great lover of steel props and cables:thumbsdown: you should offer your services to the national nature reserve and get the major oak proped in that way rather than scaff poles:icon14:
  20. don't do it!! i hired one 12months since if i had'nt packed in as a bad job i would still be there!
  21. i know why you did'nt want to fell the tree, you just wanted to practice your lopping and topping:wave: if you aren't having to chase the clock then why not dismantle! you obviously enjoy your job. i love the days when i can amble about and just enjoy the climbing without the usual presure:icon14:
  22. ive just bee to look a wind blown oak the owner asked me to cut it into 8 foot lengths for milling.lol i explained to her that it was'nt fit for milling she assured me that it was,lol and that a joiner friend would make her a table out of it.lol:stupid: you learn something new every day!!!!! and i thought it was only fit for fire wood, but hey what do i know:hmmmm2:

    engine firing

they have been made by eletrolux for years now thats why all the parts have EM stamped on them (eletrolux manufactring). don't they also make washing machines too? another good reason to buy a stihl:icon14:
  24. have a look at afag 308 top handle chainsaw with regards to using them one handed. i think it covers everything, including one handed use lets not stir up a bees nest. health and safety would probably use any amunition they can to take our beloved T.s:cussing:afag308.pdf
