  1. There was a couple on ecolots a week or two back - one was an 8ft single tall ring for £500 - thought that didn't seem too bad.
  2. We don't get too much bother with stuff getting pinched but had a farmer want to buy the last part load (it was stcked in his yard) and decided he'd move it all into a heap with his telehandler and then changed his mind once he'd found out how much it was going to cost him and it's now all blocked in until the new year - at least it will have dried out a bit. Going to be quite satisfying leading it out of the yard past him

  4. I used to take my old HP Hawk out on hire a bit but to be honest it wasn't really worth it. When you're out on hire the customer will want you to bray the hell out of the machine and all you'll end up doing is wearing out your machine faster so it's knackered when you need it for yourself.
  5. Isn't it big bar mount too?
  6. That 974 was lovely wasn't it I went to the show with an open mind - the last one at Ragley was great, but the last one at Cannock didn't seem that great. Was pleasantly surprised at how many new, unseen things were on show and also that the stands seemed to be fairly spacious - Cannock last time seemed like everyone had to make do with tiny stands and ram loads of stuff in.
  7. Marslands here too. Found them good to deal with and was easy to fit with minimal fettling.
  8. Good to meet you too Andy - you'll have to forgive me as I'm terrible at introductions
  9. Had a good look round yesterday, bumped into plenty of familiar faces. Didn't buy owt but am back again tomorrow so probbaly will this time
  10. Whose idea was it to set off this early See you all in a bit, you'll know it's me coz I'm always scowling
  11. Not really a fan of file guides, but the stihl ones that clamp round the file aren't bad to use, especially on smaller semi chisel chains.
  12. Same here, up for 3:30, out the house for 4:15, pick up another member, greasy spoon on the way down and be at the show for 9ish
  13. I'd be fairly sure it'll still be on - the weather during the last fe days has been pretty good compared to usual and if the typical punter can't handle a bit of mud there's something amiss Am like a little kid on christmas eve - well excited
  14. Bottled the first batch last night, 6 bottles with a glass left over. This was the dry one, not sure what it worked out alcohol volume wise but it was drinkable, if a bit dryer than I'd liked and I've survived after drinking it so putting it don as a success so far
  15. You're going to be looking somewhere £500-£700 for a new one, depending on what it is.
  16. I've a chunk of Birch sat here that's got some fairly big burrs on it and I quite fancy having a go at making some bowls out of the larger ones. Is removing them as simple as just bzzing them off flush to the stem with a saw or am I losing too much of the burr by doing it this way and need to cut into the stem more? Hope that makes a bit of sense Also it was felled a good six months ago - have I maybe left it a bit long if I'm wanting to work it by hand?
  17. Depends on quantity, how much of it's around the 25" size and how much time you have to spare for cutting. if you're wanting to pull a 24" or bigger bar with any sort of regularity and not get bored while it cuts then ideally nothing smaller than 80cc. Maybe one of the big Makitas? DC7901 I think is the 79cc one.
  18. Congratulations
  19. I was packing to leave for starting at college when Mum shouted up from dowstairs to come see the TV. Are things different to if they hadn't gone to war? Probably, but by how much we'll never know.
  20. We used to play a game on the stand and guess what category someone would fall into before you started to speak to them (when you'd already been on site three days before the show even started, you'd need something to cheer you up ) - Landowner, Agent, Forestry, Tree Surgeon, Firewood, Domestic or Student Surprising how easy a game it was
  21. That seems to work in my limited experience of grinders. Grinder gets brought out for badly damaged chains and we've always been able to resharen by hand afterwards, if anything it's just the profile of the cuttr that's slightly different (much the same way as on a new chain the firs time it's sharpened)
  22. Seem to remember the last two APFs wearing saw kegs, boots and a balfor T shirt - Does that count? Did have a fairly valid excuse though Actually looking forward going to one for a look round again
  23. Think we're there Thursday.
  24. Yep, reckon it would have gone petty quickly. Can't beat a good old Jonsered Best one I had off ebay so far was a 2159 that supposedly was a non runner for £50. Dropped fuel, put fresh in and it started and runs fine.
