  1. Other thing I forgot: Forestry - could be weeks or months on one site so can get a bit tiresome Tree Surgery - if you're on the same site for more than a few days then it's unusual, so plenty of variety (well here at least)
  2. Forestry = physically hard work, little return unless you work flat out all the time, awful if the weather's rough but usually a nice environment to work in. Tree surgery = less physically demanding, better return, more tea breaks to hide from bad weather, but having to deal with more people. EDIT: forgot one of the best bits of Forestry - no tidying up to do usually

Ordinarily 13" on either the 550 or a 242/42, but have found the 550 using a 15" more and more, but mainly because it's doing stuff that ordinarily would get he 357 thrown at, but loses a bit of it's flickability. The 550 on a 13" bar is as close as I've found to the handling of a 242 so far, which is what all saws should feel like for snedding

  6. Fortunately for me I'm a poor tree cutter I have tried persuading SWMBO that another old LC would be good for her to go to work in but it's not worked yet.... I've never seen a 61 in the flesh yet, is that the same engine as the 80's? Mine was a 62 with the non turbo but square lights and a lovely 80's brown velour interior
  7. Why oh why did you make me click on this thread Are there many of the 62's with sqaure headlights floating about still or are they mainly 60's with round ones?
  8. I don't, but often wished I had kept it. A Jonnyred 2163 that came from Dutko's sawmill when it closed down. Was my only saw for a couple of years and eventually it became backup and then went on ebay. The one good thing was I'm pretty sure it made more than paid for it years earlier. Was a bit of an oddball as it was small mount bar but pretty much a small bore 372 (in much the same way as the 365 was).
  9. On sort of the same lines, why not just scrape off the ivy with the digger as far as sensibly possible and then climb it?
  10. It's definitely not PTO in the vid and from memory it was only a 58hp tractor or at worst a 64hp.
  11. If you can get signed up for a tradepoint card at B&Q (when they asked if I was in the trade, I said I workd with wood and that was enough for them) and the discounts on most stuff are really pretty good then. PRobably worth a look in there purely for convenience if nowt else,
  12. I'd agree with this and Andy's post. There's very little in life that can't wait until Monday. I work to live, not live to work. I'd not ring anyone on a Sunday and wouldn't appreciate anyne calling me on a Sunday. It's bad enough anyone ringing after tea during the week......

  15. I don't think it's been sped up any (that's just how fast I work with a hangover ) though I can't remember what tractor would have been revving at. At best it was only a 58hp Carraro so wouldn't have had a massive flow on it anyway. I think that one in the video was one of the very first one's Ballario built as it still only has the small base plate on it - the later ones had a much bigger one fitted. It's the same splitter as they use (or used to) for the A9 Vario and the petrol version of that only had a 6hp engine and a tiny pump so it shouldn't need much for it to be reasonably quick.
  16. I don't know if they still doit, but Riko used to do a 9t that was similar sized to the Oxdale but with two speed and auto return that was light enough to drag around by hand. I reckon it wouldn't be too bad for two people to lift it up onto a frame on the RB and it should be small enough to run from some sort of powerpack if you wanted to use it off the RB. From memory it was the A9V 500pi and was something like £650 or so plus vat (or was when I last saw one)

  19. No, not quite. That £500 would be the tax off of a larger figure, if 20% it would be the tax from a £2500 liability for example. Buying something like a £500 saw would just knock that £2500 down to £2000 and then the tax down to £400 (i.e 20% of the 2000). It's not quite as stright forward as that but hope that makes abit more sense?

Yep, no faults with anything other than being a bit overweight (I think maybe why they stopped me originally) but we were unloading on the site they'd pulled us at and so were already off the road so going back with an empty van and trailer. If I remember rightly, the trailer was almost brand new. Whole thing was a bit surreal really, there was three VOSA officers doing the whole good cop bad cop routine between them and I was interviewed under caution. They weren't arsed about the weight really (probably because we were already where we were going?), it was the tacho bit they wouldn't let go. I've heard of others being told the same as the OP regarding just keeping notes, but it does seem as though it all depends who stops you.
  21. It does seem though that different VOSA officers work to different rules. A few years ago I was stopped in a transit and trailer a long way from base (about 450 miles) and we ended up with a prohibition notice purely because we had no tacho fitted. There was a book in the cab to record the driving (and they could see from that that we didn't do a lot of driving that needed the tacho and that I was within that week's hours etc) but were told that that didn't count and that as my employer was obviously aware that we should be keeping records, then they should also be aware that a Tacho was required by law as a notebook didn't prove anything other than what was input manually and was open to abuse. Whilst I can't say for certain that his reaction is exception rather than rule, it's worth bearing in mind. As it was, after keeping us there for a couple of hours, they eventually gave us some sort of printed exemption notice that would let us drive with the empty trailer back to base but no faster than 40mph (bearing in mind 95% of the trip was motorways too ). Fortunately where they pulled us was at the entrance to where we were heading to.

  24. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway's usually quite popular - it sets off from Pickering, which is only 20 miles or so from York, and goes through where they filmed Heartbeat. Eating wise, Cosmo in York city centre is pretty good. It's one of those all you can eat buffet places but has just about every type of food you can think of - Can't be many places where can you pile chinese and indian on top of a roast dinner
  25. That's probably quite good for a 260hp V6 (I'm guessing petrol?)
