  1. Hi, I am looking for a reliable source to occasionally hire a chipper from in the Faversham area. Any pointers would be helpful, don't use them much but handy if one local as the one I get is great for work in the Elham Valley area but need one closer to this end also. Thanks Dave
  2. Hi all, I am looking for someone to work alongside myself on a self employed basis as a groundsman who may also want to progress into climbing. I run a small bespoke company serving numerous domestic clients and some commercial jobs too. The majority of the work is domestic, interesting, challenging and rewarding. For the right person this would be a great opening, I am flexible, reliable, hard working and operate to high standards in regards to arb work and client relations. You must be equipped with tools,PPE, be able to drive preferably have vehicle with a tow bar and most desirable is reliability. Either PM me or call on 07817191055 I look forward to meeting you soon, Dave
  3. The pricing of this and all jobs depends how you like to run your business. Enough work to sustain yourself and groundie year round then it is a 2 man job over a day and a half. If you want to get it done in an easy day then have 3 men on it, 4 if really want to smash it out. Only need to think about how much work you have for yourself on your books. It's easy to get large unnecessary crews and machinery in for jobs, with the bottom line being less in it for you.
  4. I keep thinking I should have made my way up the other side of the tree but it was awkward so decided against it haha One of my golden rules is if you think it then there must be a reason for it and probably the best way to do it. Trust your senses like the wildlife do.
  5. Why? extra cost to your business use BACS its free:thumbup:
  6. Was working clearing a glade this week in preparation for an ecopod to go in there. Amongst bits the client wanted out were 2 trunks which looked like classic Owl habitat. So checked both and one was clear although had signs of activity and in the other.... Have suggested that we now leave them as standing monoliths which we are:thumbup:
  7. I love natural grafting (inosculation, thanks for the correct term David:thumbup:) and had this small one on a Sycamore the other week. We left the client with a little something rather then chop into firewood. Sorry about rotation of pics, don't know what happened there as correct way up on phone!?!
  8. Some great trees out there especially your pic treesrus, the best one i have ever seen was one I woke up to every day throughout my childhood, it dominated the parkland that was my view and must have had a spread of around 35metres. Very strangely it was also my fathers favourite too. The year he passed away 10 years ago (far to Young @59) the tree died too within months...........
  9. Truly stunning example that they are not. Getting on for 250+ years, hopefully get it registered on the heritage trees data base.
  10. Oops, passed me buy the door width, so you need to take it through a house then?!?
  11. Surely 1 tonne of logs chipped makes 1 tonne of chip, unless by some strange occurance it changes density. Reminds me of what weighs more a tonne of feathers or lead? ;-)
  12. For the capacity you're going to chip have a look at tw150 as well.
  13. That looks like a very handy piece of engineering. What is its max working height?
  14. Every employee is entitled to their holiday and anyone that begrudges that should reconsider the size of their business Imo.
  15. Try tree shears, google it and look into it. I know a company in kent that goes out for £300:00 a day machine and operator called risden restorations. He's a business person so if price is right I'm sure he'd travel or perhaps someone nearer to you.
  16. Hi All, Would anyone like 2 days work next week in Faversham Kent on Weds & Thurs. Job is on some Sycamores and need an extra pair of hands to help team with getting the arisings out and chipped. £80 a day based on 8 hours on site will need an invoice. If interested please call 07817191055 many thanks Dave.
  17. You are the supplier so the cost is your price, end of. If he doesn't understand this then walk away as I think you won't get payment in full anyway.
  18. Don't just look at the lines also the poles and the furniture thereon.
  19. Rangers are great from my experience and I have previously had a hilux. I bought my one with 80k on the clock and it's now done another hard 90k still on same engine, clutch gearbox etc etc just normal consumables changed and serviced by myself each year. Just one of those things it seems for you, a bad egg. Hope you can get it sorted at a good price.
  20. Even insulated lines have parts where they are weathered and the cable has become exposed so no don't "crack on"
  21. You are the one climbing and know your limits and safe working practices. All electric work should be done the correct way and you will make it home at the end of the day. If your boss wants to do it then let him, don't be a fool for anybody, well done for not doing it.
  22. They are based just down the road from me and they do all the windbreaks around the orchards in the area. Very quick and quite a reasonable day rate as I remember for those big commercial jobs. They mainly stack it in a huge pile and torch it as well.
  23. That's a commute, wolves to Tunbridge wells! Search for a member on here called Billy he has a contact for tip site just outside of Tunny.
  24. Put a sign outside the property saying free logs and watch the magpies arrive! Also remember that it is a really dense wood so take that into mind when doing handheld drops etc.
