  1. Stick it on the bonfire leave whilst having lunch etc, once post has burnt out use long metal handled pitch fork to retrieve fittings , no sweat and no time spent getting it out. BOOM!
  2. Hi, looking an experienced self employed groundsperson for work through Autumn, Winter and into Spring then ongoing. Must have own transport and tools. Fuel and oil supplied for tools on site. The work is all in the domestic market in some amazing places. I am based near Faversham and majority of the work covers that area, Canterbury and surrounding villages. Good Rates depending on experience. Please call me, Dave on 07817191055 for a chat. Thanks for reading👍
  3. I wish you good luck in your new venture. We could debate for hours so to not do so I respect your opinion as I'm sure you do mine.
  4. I have always been asked if I supply logs and always it's a no because of the very reason you mention in that margins are so small. I 100% back a free market and that is the point afterall. Logs>gas=no logs
  5. Andy, I have lived with either an open fire or wood burner all my life and now in my 5th decade and as an arborist for almost half of that I certainly know the market value of wood. The original bag dimension you quoted ammounts to a mere 0. 61 m³ which for that price is a rip off. Especially when you take into account all the air space in their too so be lucky to actually get 0.5 m³. £100 for a pick up load ( single cab) is more realistic and what most people pay. I am fortunate never to have had to pay for logs and likely never to have to do so. But I am informed and will input where I believe malpractices are afoot.
  6. Are you really for real. A dumpy bag of logs at market price is not £90+ and if you think that is a fair price then you are the problem. I'm not in the market for buying or supplying but do know what is a fair price especially in the south east and that is certainly way off the mark.
  7. Hi Mags, Such a positive post. May I wish you all the best in your search for work, with your honesty and willingness to learn you'll go a long way in the Arbworld. I am based in Kent and always have plenty of work months in advance. If you're around the East Sussex area for a while message me and may be able to give you some work and experience at same time. Good luck.
  8. Surely if someone is working full time for you then legally he should be employed!?
  9. Thanks guys for input like mentioned costs too much to go inside lez think it's over £100 per day. I usually burn on site but they've landscaped the area we used to use. I can haul it back down to my base, just easier if there was somewhere local that could take it. Pretty much just inside the m25 is lez, I don't work that way apart from this one job every year for a friends sister so never an issue. ?
  10. Unfortunately they are in lez so can't use them.
  11. Thanks Nepia, really appreciate your input.
  12. Hi, I have checked the tipsite directory and although there are a few chip sites local too Oxted none of them accept green waste. Does anyone know somewhere that accepts loads of hedge cutting waste, working up there all next week and it would need to be outside of lez as well. Thanks if you can help, Dave.
  13. Hi, I am based near Faversham in Kent and require an experienced groundie or a general all rounder (ie climb as well and can share climbing/grounding tasks). The need has arisen due to my current colleague taking time out to give their back a break. I have plenty of work up to the end of January booked in and can offer numerous days/weeks over that period. I am looking for someone that is experienced, has CS30/31/38 minimum (CS39 a bonus), has there own tools,PPE, transport and can work to a high standard. I work in the domestic market and the work is varied and interesting with some great projects lined up over Autumn/Winter. Please contact me on 07817191055 or message me on here. You won't find me on FB or Twitter so don't look there. Thanks for taking the time to read the post and look forward to hearing from you soon, Dave.
  14. Looking for anyone with truck and chipper for occasional requirements in the Kent area. Mainly around Faversham, Canterbury, Elham Valley and villages in the vicinity of the areas mentioned. Call me on 07817191055 or send me a contact number. Thank you, Dave.
  15. Hi, I am looking for someone on a subbie basis to assist with all aspects of tree and hedge work. I am based near Faversham in Kent and operate in the domestic market with a wide variety of work. The need has arisen as one of my sub contract guys is relocating end of March. Ideally you will have a vehicle, cs30, 31,38 & 39. Saws, climbing kit etc. Would be bonus to if you have a chipper but not essential. Call me for more details on 07817191055 or send me your number. Looking to get going mid to late March with this and would probably fill a few days a week. Thanks, Dave
  16. Work life. Balance needs to be addressed. Work to live not live to work! Have a holiday and then look forward to your next. I shut down every August and works for me.
  17. They're excellent, no problems at all with them use them on 200t 261 and 660.
  18. I'm keen on the job just honest with my client. Fully booked until mid January so it's a time and shifting months of work around that is the negative side. The first company that looked at it didn't even notice the disease and advised deadwood and reduce, once told it was TPO'd they lost all interest!
  19. Aupa Hodge, The main industry in the Basque country is forestry from all the searching I have done. Very little if at all any domestic arb, my wife is from Bizkaia and we spend at least a month out there every year. Had a 2 year stint over there and tried to work in the arb industry. Did manage to get a season pollarding planes but the work was so hit and miss that it could not support us at the time. It is a truly amazing place and the people are most hospitable. There is some utility cutting going on as see evidence of it so try the supplier for an opening. Good luck with your move and wish you every success in your seach. Agur Dave
  20. Update on the tree, it has had the TPO lifted and removal approved by local authority. It's a huge and tricky job as the work zone is very limited. Is anyone interested in the bulk of the timber, it can not be felled so will be in chunks. Will need a hiab to lift out and over fence. Located in Faversham, anyone seriously interested in it please let me know. (no trunk kickers please:biggrin:) The trunk is approx 4ft across up to 7 metres and loads of big boughs through the crown. Pricing for the job but by no means mine yet, have advised the client to obtain at least another 2 quotes and would be no problem if I do not get it.
  21. Thank you , photo was from Friday afternoon!
  22. Thank you, to the back of the houses runs the A2 london road through Faversham so this along with the houses says to me remove. If it was in a nice open space with no targets then maybe worth a try keeping but I think to much damage has been done. The client had been wondering why over the last few years its been getting sparser in the crown!
  23. Hi, I was asked to have a look at a TPO'd Beech tree with the client wanting a Reduction and deadwooding. Upon inspection the crown is very bare and I found the pictured fungus one new and the other probably last years around the roots. I believe it is Meripilus giganteus and due to the tree being right next to houses and a main road the other side of the houses I would suggest removal asap of the tree. Do you think its worth retaining by reduction? My thought is its in decline and given the targets and risks nearby then realistically removal is the way to go.
