  1. Drive sprockets especially on the big saws seem to wear quickly... When they have started to wear beyond a certain point they start to damage the drive links making them burr... this then scrapes the inside of the bar out very quickly.
  2. The bar looks like it's done a fair bit of work looking at the paint etc in one of the pics. It's interesting ref bars - when and how often should you replace them? On the whole they get replaced when they start causing problems like this one is now. It's not necessarily how many hours the bar has done - if the drive sprocket is worn it will burr the drive links which will increase wear on the bar x2 to x3 times. Sometimes if the old chain has worn the bar grove out because of peened drive links problems start when you put a new chain in that is then sloppy in the bar. You can pinch up the rails but this is only ever a bit of a temporary fix and needs doing fairly regularly. At the end of the day I expect the bar needs to be replaced and also a good idea is to change the rim on the drive sprocket and put a new chain on. Cost a few £ but PM me and perhaps I can do a bit of a deal for you

    Sugihara bars

I have got some Sugi nose fixing kits for the larger noses... These are £16-00+vat need to get them up on the website Or you can just use a punch to drift the rivet out - put the new nose and rivets in then flatten out. I've used the chain breaker for this then ground the rivets flat.
  4. I'm thinking of making one as well! If you do stick some pics up.

Not sure - what bar is that you have?

Sorry didn't see this one but you can buy spare noses here: Products for the category: Bar maintenance tools
  7. Got some of the hair pin legs - looked good, very easy to fix - but bit of a pain as had to sprayed.... would be good in chrome or pre sprayed in black I think.
  8. That's the best piece so sorry I'll be planking that - none of it is getting cut up for firewood.
  9. Hardly
  10. Sorry Steve - I PMd when I saw it may go on the log pile - I'll have a look at what's there when it arrives and see if any bits I can't use that you can have for turning.
  11. Thanks - was good fun - quite a long day but good publicity so no complaints there! George is a very down to earth bloke who doesn't mind getting stuck in and getting his hands dirty! Actual milling piece is around 36 minutes.... bit of a fight through ads to get to it
  12. Nice work and nice pics! Thanks for posting.
  13. Ok - fair enough.
  14. Ha ha - would be a small clan me thinks! Ah well stick to the one I'm in although there's more bickering and in fighting than actual fighting of the enemy!
  15. Yep they are good... When I got the hang of it I suddenly appreciated what a sharp chain was I dream of an 'on the bar' grinder that is battery powered and has an automatic type of feed.....
  16. Ok - settle down - no one is having a go so why all defensive? You're saying the noses are fitted badly to the bars and the fitting is rubbish - Ok - so if you're going to post that I'm going to ask for the details of it.... I looked through previous orders and can't see an order for Steve Collins. But maybe it was a manual order or was off ebay or from FR Jones. PM me the details if you like.
  17. Just wondering who else on here is playing Clash of Clans... Is it worth putting an Arbtalk clan together? Or am I the only one playing it
  18. Nice Spud And some great milling pics in previous posts.

Hi Shavey - I couldn't get that link to work... or at least coming up with 'not found...'
  20. But this implies he's had a few bars and this has always happened? Not heard anything about this being an issue and no one else has pointed this out...
  21. Really? First I've heard that the fitting of the nose to the bar is 'rubbish'. When did you try them/what size type and for what saw? When did you find the nose come loose? You're paying for something that's lighter and that will also well outlast any oregon powermatch bar ... The noses are fitted perfectly with 3 rivets onto the bar - better IMO than the single rivet on the oregon powermatch.

Ok just to keep this thread constructive and on track... Shavey - I am still confused about what models are actually out there... So how's about a short list, how much they cost, what bar mount they have and what chain (.325 or 3/8) they tend to run. I think the opening is there for new saws - but there needs to be some solid info on em... What is available and at what price from this list here DOLMAR - Chain saws gasoline
  23. Never mind for the kids I want one for me It is very cool indeed. If you do make one for someone else my advice would be don't be afraid to charge for it.. If you do well it will encourage you to make another and that's how these sort of businesses start.. but undercharging just causes headaches all round.....
  24. If you could post a vid then I reckon would make diagnosis very quick.
  25. But someone like that could do that with any online seller ebay or otherwise? That is not ebay that is online selling. As said - people tend to point at ebay because that is where you can sell if you don't have an e commerce site - but this stuff happens if you sell on the internet be it ebay or otherwise... I get people taking the Mick on the odd order off the website... It's not right but it is the nature of trading over the internet.
