  1. Now a question often comes up - which is the best? 27R is best on bars up to and inc 36" 27RA (not available for for mid August) for bars around 48" 27RX for bars longer than 48" But of course it depends on you, the saw, the sharpening, the wood you are cutting, and a host of other factors.
  2. With the Oregon 27RX it is only a fraction slower - however on larger cuts it will probably be slightly faster. Is your 120cm bar the 47" Stihl Duromatic Bar? If so consider changing this as it causes a lot of heat and friction on the nose. https://www.chainsawbars.co.uk/product/27rx100r-oregon-hyper-skip-ripping-404-063-100ft-reel-includes-joiners-and-tie-straps/ We sell the 27RX in 100ft reels and you will not find it in 25ft reels. I did a video here on the different types of chain - https://www.chainsawbars.co.uk/chainsawbars-videos-2/
  3. If you get stuck we can always do you a longer length with some joiners so you can just shorten it down to what then fits.
  4. Haha! Yep but it's the business really - or us lot would go out of business
  5. Going to be around 6 weeks I think but after that we will have a regular supply Si. It then will give us: Oregon 27R - full comp ripping Oregon 27RA - full skip ripping (arriving around mid August, 2018) Oregon 27RX - hyperskip ripping Oregon are really coming through on helping us to supply these hard to find specialty chains.
  6. Weight is prob best over strapping as it gives a continued force but certainly some dry B&Q plain sawn battons 38mm by 50mm I find work really well.
  7. The Panther Mill comes set up with exactly what is best really - if there were a better set up we would do that as standard. But if on a budget you can still buy a Panther and fit to your own saw and bar combo - you would just need to drill the bar:
  8. Sorry late reply! You need to remove x1 drive link. I had to do this recently on my 64" bar. After removing the drive link then you will be just under midway on the tensioner.
  9. Hi Mat - apologies I never thanked you for the feedback you provided. So thanks! If we make some of those skids you can have a couple. Have you milled anything else recently? Those pics are good!
  10. I wish I hadn't put that about the 27RX leaving a rougher finish as the difference compared to other chains is minimal. That said with all that power you need not use 27RX. Soon (in 6 weeks) we will finally have 27RA again (full skip ripping). Sharpening is so personal how it is done - the better you sharpen a chain the less it will need sharpening. Some sort of a guide every now and again will really pay off. Milling is only pleasant with a sharp chain. If in doubt about what works best for you try a few different ripping chains - yes costs a few £ but if you invest into milling it's worth it in the long run.
  11. Thanks Bill - have added £20-00 worth of points onto your CSB account
  12. Nice selection of pics there Bill - can I have your permission to re tweet these? Roughly where were you in the country?
  13. Nice work Craig - where was this taken and on what sort of tree? Like the fact you took the time (and the risk) to take the strop off. You just got yourself another Panther bar and chain on the house (NB the more pics that get posted the harder it will be to get free stuff so early birds to this thread are always going to do better....)
  14. We're after some cooler pics for website - thinking needs to be 'out of the box' arty, cool or just have a bit of an impact. I'm doing less cutting these days and so don't get the chance... Here's some ideas: Panther Mini Bars - pics on MS150T, MSA160T, Echo 2511TES, Husky T536Li, Husky T525 (that's these bars found here https://www.chainsawbars.co.uk/?s=panther+mini&submit=Search&post_type=product) What other pics you got of products we sell that have some impact? There will be free stuff for any we use... You can help direct us by tagging in facebook and instagram as well - look for Chainsawbars...
  15. If you need a 10" bar in the future then let us know - not got any pics of the Panther mini bars yet on the MSA160T https://www.chainsawbars.co.uk/product/e10-j1-42k-cv-1-10-panther-mini-for-stihl-ms150-ms150t-msa160t-1-4-043-56-drive-links/ In fact anyone who can provide us with a 'cool' pic of the Panther Mini on their MS150T and MSA160T we'll do a free chain for. Has to pass muster with web designer... something like this would be good sort of hanging off the harness or looking down the bar.. or in a cut... Some arty pics would be good...

  18. Perfick - most folks seem to think they last longer than other bars so hopefully you'll find the same.
  19. Yep thanks for the info - what I need is a plug in for woo commerce which is what I used before and that seemed pretty good.
  20. That's a shame it didn't bolt straight - I don't see why you couldn't grind off the bar a little at the back - as long as the bottom tang of the drive links are not bottoming out in the rail should be fine. But I can't say yea or nae for definate as my official stance on modification always has to be one of caution due to health and safety.. plus I'm not totally familiar with this machine.. If you think it will work I expect it probably will. If it doesn't work and the bar is scrapped we will refund 60% of the bar cost to you if that helps.
  21. It's tricky and we still have not nailed down how we are going to make sure the mill 'grips' the first cut system. I have not used the Oregon 27RX like this but it should make a huge improvement to the chainsaw bouncing. My way worked but was crude... we already have the parts in place for the vertical mill we are doing - but at the moment we are more wanting to get some more Panthers sold and out there before we make the next step. Soonish I need to go to Loglogic and spend a day milling with them to nail down how we do the vertical mill. I have a working model but there are several tweaks needed before it can go into production.
  22. Good point - damp could well be an issue over a few days in hot weather. It may be we switch to thick brown paper which at least is degradable and scrunched up gives good support and protection.
  23. Actually Mat I may have been ahead of the game with this as no one paid using Bitcoin! So I took the option off. What is needed is some more user friendly plug and play style applications that use cryptos as a base but deal in things like £ and $. All the promises made by some of the companies with their ICOs and tokens now need to start coming good. And I have to confess I don't understand how Bitcoin fees work... ie how they are calculated. But if I get time today I'll look further into this.
  24. Yep and please let us know it all works to satisfaction as you're a pretty regular 2511 man.

I think it is just saying the sprockets are replaceable. But I've never known any one to replace one in a laminated bar - either it has failed too early and is more a warranty thing - or the bar will be well and truly worn out... and then not worth replacing a failed sprocket.
