  1. It's great to see someone out there is as bad as me at misplacing things !!
  2. Oh and I got these spliced eye prussiks from proclimber - rather than having knots at each end the eyes are spliced in which makes everything less bulky... They grip the rope and release a treat..... I'll try and get some pics but the lnk to their site is: Eye To Eye Hip Prussik [PR0042] : Proclimber Professional Arborist Products Online, Supplies for the professional arborist
  3. John Shutler showed me to the VT a year ago and I've not looked back... It's great when you do change things and it gets you excited about climbing again.
  4. I notice you're going to the Saltex show - Because it's a ground maintenace type show (or was when I went a few times) I'm not sure it will be a great place to demo it.... If only you could have brought one to the FR Jones show - all the cream of tree workers, free to exhibit.... Not to worry... The APF next year would be a good bet though...
  5. Looks really good... even if it does dig into the tree the normal friction bollards can do anyway with a woopee sling... A video of attaching to the tree would be really good... I like the way you can obviously get it tight to the stem. Is it all CE approved etc. ?
  6. Great catching up with you Mark and having a few beers in the evening... You were on top form (in the evening any way) and you certainly enjoyed hurling large logs on the fire then hooting as the sparks jumped up I get a bit of grief ref arbtalk - but nothing serious like router confiscation!
  7. I reckon the clear up will be a bit of a pain... all the sawdust and dead branch ends... I'd have said £750-00....
  8. Well we'd have to go out on a proper dinner date first.... I'm just not that easy....!
  9. If they can move the wood in large lumps somewhere I'll come up and mill it sometime next year (beginning summer) and make them a huuuuggge table with matching benches. Anything over a foot is milling territory. Save you having to ring it - just the moving it may be a pain...
  10. Nice one Stevie start saving them up... I'll find a haulier in the end !
  11. Just to say thanks for putting on a great show... Really great to meet fellow arbtalkers. Had a nice feel to it and will definately be around for next year
  12. Didn't you disappear around 11.55p.m Stevie? It was like you had to get somewhere really urgently, like you were really looking forward to something....
  13. I'd love an elm like that to be coming down near me! I'd probably look at all that timber, start drooling and end up paying him
  14. Nice one Stevie and great to meet you and all the others at the show... really enjoyed meeting like minded people who know exactly where you're coming from. Not sure about this slighty unhealthy obsession with 'John Shuntler' though....! Is it his long wavy brown hair that caught your eye
  15. I've found danish oil to be really good for indoor stuff although you will be looking at around 3 to 4 coats to give a glossy shiny finish... But very minimal sanding or wire wooling in between. Maybe it depends on the manufacturer of your oil... I use Rustins which were the original makers of danish oil. A clear polyurethene varnish is also really good (only for dry timber) as you don't get any colour change in the wood but gives a hard shiny finish after only a couple of coats.

Nice Tom... I'll store that on my favourites... Def something I want to get in the future... especially now I've seen a few vids like this!
  17. I've a mate over in Ryde who does a fair bit of treework... I've given him a call and left a message... if he calls me back and says he's interested then I'll pass on his number. Also I'm over in Lymington and if you could get to Yarmouth and the ferry I could pick you up from there... but don't know how practical/economical that would be for you. Rob
  18. Well done all who did it... I've got no excuses... other than just excuses! Next time!
  19. Yeh and also I was looking forward to getting into some down and dirty milling talk with a fellow timber miller!! Josharp brought along 2 walnut butts to mill Tom... You'd have loved it... But we'll no doubt have a chat when I'm next down in Cornwall.
  20. I think that's fair enough really - a lot of stuff has to do with our own personal outlook. But IMO there are probably some snaps out there more likely to 'roll out' as others. I've used the ISC double snap for 2 years and never found I have had a problem or have got nervous about it opening by accident. Unless there was a wave of opinion and outright condemnation of this particular snap then I would continue using it. R
  21. Ok I've looked at the link... So the ETCC (European Tree Climbing Championship - I didn't have a clue what that stood for) have banned them... In a competition climbing is totally different to working as in you're looking at speed as being the priority... They've only been banned for competitions not for general use. Irrespective I would carry on using mine - just bought another ISC one the other day because I think they're so good. There's lots of things that could be a hazard in this job if used incorrectly or simply you could just be plain unlucky - but that doesn't mean to say the equipment is not up to the job.
  22. Your call but in my mind given where it is and what's happened the tree should come down... And I must admit I wouldn't have hesitated given where the crack is... Get it down and plant a new one... And rather than ring up the main stem get some planks out of it. Blue cedar is a lovely stable attractive looking timber... and very resistant to decay.
  23. Cheers for showing us Mike's set up - really impressive
  24. I thought the whole idea of snap hooks is that they are easy to open one handed?! I've been using the ISC snap hook and found it to be excellent. Fast quick secure. When you say they have been 'banned' is this all snap hooks? Or just the one the goat ate!

Great vid Tom... I'm liking the way you show all the cuts even if they don't break off cleanly as it shows what you do when that happens... Good work! What's that helmet cam your using i.e. make and model, how much did it cost and where did you get it?
