  1. I wouldn't worry Tom - I have a load of sawn black poplar and no has beaten down the door to buy it!
  2. I've heard it's the traditional timber for truck beds etc something to do with it being springy, light and flexible... But maybe that was all that could be afforded....!

Mine are small 12volt jobbies. Handheld one, and the precision one. On the precision one you can set the angle, lead in angle and it gets all the teeth identical length. I find them brilliant but some don't seem to get on with them.... I'll put some vids up in a few weeks when I'm back my sponsered sub forum. Small one is £29-00 and the precision one £49-00 all + vat but you get a 10% discount.
  4. If you can get a grab lorry to it then I'll have it! Although you'll have to saw up into 3 tonne sections which will prob equate to around 8' Or another idea is I could come and mill on site with the Peterson if you send me some pics would be handy... You can have some of the sawn timber in exchange if you have a use for it....
  5. Where abouts is it and can you get a 12 tonne grab lorry to it? Also when are you thinking of taking it down? Spoke to Tracy and Ian and will be looking at their oaks when I get back off holiday. Thanks for the referral, Rob

  6. I'm getting a muffler for an 880 modded by a lad Scott Wajtasik... but would be interested to hear what you've had done to your saw. How about a video as well?

    Chain sharpening

I use the 12 volt grinders and to be honest (not just cause I sell them!) I have no idea why everyone isn't using them. Fast, easy to use, don't heat the teeth, cheap..... There's a precision one to set all the angles. I've been using them for 4 years and the old arguement that you can't get the tooth as sharp is utter falicy - all IMO bear in mind..... can sharpen a 36" chain in 3 to 4 minutes, a damaged one may take 10 mins.... I will be posting a vid on my sponsered site soon..... may be a few weeks now as am away....
  8. You don't have to be a woodworker to make furniture believe you me! Forget about joints and all the rest - I'll be posting a vid on making a dining room table but it will be in a few weeks that one. Previously I have just made tables and benches etc. just more to experiment and then sold them after. But this year I have had £6,000-00 or so of furniture made to order..... and that is what you really want. Also memorial benches seem a good way to go as with the material at hand you can do something really unique, something that will last rather than the usual factory produced stuff. I have done 5 now all from one bench I made in an out of the way place last year..... Didn't even have my name or anything on it but from that people have found me. I'm too busy to make too much at the mo but next year it's all guns blazing. April/May time is the best as that's when people will be looking for garden furniture.
  9. I mean why not find your own identity.... why try and be something your not?
  10. But it is weird when people copy each other. They must just have really low self esteem and lack confidence IMO
  11. Love to see the pics as I've not worked with a crane yet. Don't let 'em drag you down. As I'm sure you know there's plenty of those out there just full of it...

    Ocd customer

For private jobs I will always ask for payment at the time the job has been completed. Saves a lot of posting and eases your cash flow as well as not having to remind people. I'd say pretty much all the people I've ever worked for are happy to pay when you've finished the job. Just a polite 'Well Mr so and so that's pretty much us all finished, if we could settle up that would be great."

    Ocd customer

I don't quite get this... She hasn't not paid you yet so what are you getting all ready to dump on her drive and the rest Also why rummage in the truck for an invoice book. An invoice can be done on any piece of paper - perhaps not as professional as from the proper invoice book but then you could have asked her to pay there and then. If this was the worst customer you've had in years then you've done well.....
  14. Only 2 minutes to saw the bundle..... but maybe 2 hours to make it
  15. That's the ideal situation for planking it on site with an Alaskan mill!! Ash is a great timber although more for indoors rather than out. Even better if it has turned a lovely brown colour on the inside (called olive ash) if there has been the right sort of decay going on....
  16. Nice one Dean - those are great fun!
  17. Outboard cuts seem to work fine on smaller branches but as the size increases so does the chance it just rips the saw out of your hands..... I always usually go in board or the box cut.
  18. Although that lad was in Canada - but I suppose you could say it was somewhere north of the border.... !
  19. Where that mate 'I cannae find more food, if a cannae get more food I'm gonnae start cryin' or 'gonnae go on another pointless 15 mile walk to find the salmon, if I can only find the salmon then I'll be able ta eat.'! Apologies Stevie :blushing:that was my best attempt at the accent!
  20. Tom when you do mill stick a vid on if you get a chance
  21. It's a struggle Mark and without helpful relatives pretty much impossible to solve without driving yourself into the ground to raise the money yourself.... Do you know anyone well enough who'll do a cheap deal on hiring one until you can save a few quid up?
