It’s quite a long one but as well as plenty of info to keep your chainsaw milling as fast and efficient as possible there are plenty of special offers further down the page. First off we would like to share the following videos with you currently on YouTube. These are the first and in future months we are hoping to offer greater variety. If you subscribe to alaskanmilluk videos YouTube should then tell you when we have posted a new video. The only disadvantage of this is that we currently have to process this discount manually – i.e. you will have to call or e-mail us. The more chainsaw milling I do the more essential I see it is the chain that is the chainsaw. Getting the teeth the same length, the correct shape and the depth gauges right is crucial. With normal chainsaw work a chain at 50% cutting efficiency will still work. In milling you’re going to put a lot of stress on yourself and the chainsaw if the chain is not right. Chainsaw milling should feel smooth and progressive with the saw pulling you through the wood. This website here will tell you a lot of info it is worth taking the time to read Guide Bar & Saw Chain Menu By looking more at how a chain and guide bar work will increase your milling productivity. Second is the bar – if the groove is worn and there is too much play the mill can be stopped in its tracks. Always dress and reverse the guidebar when replacing/changing a chain. Third is the sprocket. A worn sprocket can wear the drive links causing fast wearing of the guide bar groove. Change the rim (or whole sprocket if an older set up) after every 2 new chains. And a newsletter would be no use at all without any special offers. These offers will not show on the website – you’ll have to call or e-mail us. Unfortunately we are often out milling ourselves so please leave a message if we don’t answer and we’ll call you back. If you are an Arbtalk member you do not get the discount and the 10% ! Just one or the other! All offers are valid only until the 7th April, 2010 Chain offers If you’re unsure of what chain you need go here OREGON®: Selector Guide Although for MS880 or Husqvarna 3120 with 36” bar .404 chain there is a mistake – you need 108 drive links and not 104!! Granberg ripping chain .404 .063 £0.40 per drive link (usual price £0.45 drive link) Granberg ripping chain 3/8 and .325 all gauges £0.35 per drive link (usual price £0.40 drive link) Oregon ripping chain .404 .063 £0.30 per drive link (usual price £0.35 drive link) Oregon ripping chain 3/8 and .325 all gauges £0.25 per drive link (usual price £0.30 dive link) Oregon multicut chain – this chain has 3 times the thickness of chrome on the cutter top plate and gives better stay sharp qualities in gritty conditions. £0.35 drive link (usual price £0.45 drive link). Available all chain sizes except .404. Buy any 4 chains at the above offer prices and get the cheapest chain free!! 12v handheld grinders £25-00 instead of £29-00 12v precision grinder (this is the one you want really!) £40 instead of £49. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PG-tdr3X2s0]YouTube - Precision Grinder.wmv[/ame] Buy any grinder and get 3 packs of grinding stones for £10-00 (instead of £15). GB chainsaw bars from Australia. These should be here in 3 weeks. This offer applies to those who wish to pre order to take advantage of the discounted prices as below. (Although we have 3x 50” bars in stock). Also to bear in mind that there is a paint issue with these bars in that it appears to wear off quickly! This does not affect the performance and I have been using a 50” bar for the last 6 weeks and have found it performs well with very little flex and is hard wearing. Weight is a little heavier than a Cannon superbar equivalent. 50” GB extra long sprocket nose bar £175-00 (currently 3 in stock) – usually £230-00 60” GB extra long sprocket nose bar £190-00 usually £250-00 66” GB extra long sprocket nose bar £210-00 usually £270-00 72” GB extra long sprocket nose bar £240-00 usually £300-00 84” GB extra long sprocket nose bar £270-00 usually £350-00 They will fit Stihl 880 mounts and there is a small adapter that comes with each bar for fitting smaller Husqvarna 3120 mounts. Oil holes are present for each make of saw. Mini mill – kit yourself out with the best accessory to go with your Alaskan £75-00 (usually £95-00). One of the best meters on the market. Gives consistent accurate results unlike other cheaper meters. Delmhorst Instrument Co. Moisture Meters
  6. I have the same - ideal for light pruning jobs. Though not so sure about the colour though...
  7. Get a new one of Jonsie - it'll prob only cost £5 to send. As a rule of thumb I would never buy second hand climbing gear...
  8. For a bulk order just go direct to aaoil. If you contact Jon (hope he won't mind me putting his details up!) - say you'd like a minimum order of Aspen to get free shipping. Also they do a bio chain oil with which you can make up your order e.g. say minimum for free shipping was 50 cans 10 of those could be the bio oil. Again I've used this at length and it is an excellent product - had to go back to mineral oil for one job and couldn't believe the stink of it! Ask him as well for a non spill cap and has he any of the storage units left. Also he will know all about storage issues and what you can and can't do. 9. That book chair is really oringinal. Great work
  10. Just mental - for the money they get for these things they could do a couple hours honest work and still have the same amount! Sub human scum
  11. Yep that's about the sum of it - and that 1 skillfull and hardworking guy will be off to start his own company!
  12. Been using it for 4 years now and would not go back (and never thought of going back). I really don't understand the price thing at all - as you have already said just add on £5-00 to your prices to allow for this and include it in your advertising. Once you've got over buying and sorting out storage for the first job lot that's the hard bit. The main thing with Aspen IMO is to commit to it. If you buy 5 or 15 litres at a time you'll pay through the nose. Also you'll be halfway through a job and run out... Buy in 300 litres you get free delivery and a much cheaper price. I've never had a problem with supply - they have a huge storage on an airfield somewhere. It's always available and takes 2 days to be delivered. The 200l drums of it don't really work out much cheaper at all than the 5l containers. As for COSH regs aaoil were selling a container to keep your fuel in for £108-00 + vat. Free delivery if you had a bumper load of fuel. And finally they now have a no spill cap you can attach straight to the can - I'll put a pic of this up. It used to peeve me that you had to transfer the fuel into a no spill can all the time.... So yes it's expensive but you're chainsaws will always have an exact 50:1 mix, will perform better and last longer. + you're not messing about with mixing fuel anymore. But mainly you don't get the headaches and nausea you get with normal fuel.
  13. Sorry Ian but I had a falling out with Peterson re Skillmill. Did a large report on it when it first came out as they needed to put some basic issues right - 4 months later and I was still waiting. They have now discontinued production - I still bought one of thei bigger mills but they really messed me around with the Skillmill!!!

But have no fear and save some money cause there are some developments in the pipeline which I can say no more about at the moment... exciting developments!

  14. Nicely done! Good use of the crotch at the top But is it stable with the weight up high or I expect you will bolt her down!
  15. Dare I say Aspen 2T! That is better stuff to run it on.
  16. It would be a good idea but where to plant? Better IMO to encourage the customer to plant trees and provide advice etc on best species, where to buy etc. Or give to a charity that plants trees in parts of the world they can't afford to do it themselves. International Tree Foundation ? Planting, protecting, promoting trees I give £60 a month to the ITF. They seem to be more switched on than others about what they're doing. £60 means that I'm paying for 30 trees to be planted each month.
  17. The trouble is that a lot of our English ways have now rubbed off on the other eastern europeans... I've had a one that was an utter time waster and another who just grafted for a whole week solidly splitting logs by hand... But to concur what is going to happen in 20 years to this country? There is little to no work ethic left? I'm just old enough to say the next generation is going to weigh this country down like lead boots!! And the trouble is you get so disillusioned with workers I now don't bother with full time employees....
  18. Excellent... liking to mooses head and heavy table.
  19. "Get back to your roots enjoying the sights, sounds and feel of a true arb show. No entrance fee, no overpriced coffee, no hard sell, no worrys!" I'm definately getting a good place to stay this time - no staying up late drinking with all the rough tree boys. It'll be warm bed, early night and hot breakfast all the way.......
  20. I'd say unless you have a special application in mind the mini mill (which cuts vertically) should be your second mill to a horozontal cutting mill (alaskan and small log mill).

    They fit onto all chainsaws.

Have a good look through my website alaskan mill I home of the portable chainsaw mill and also youtube YouTube - Mini and debarker.wmv and for more vids select 'more videos from alaskanmilluk' a button halfway up on the right.

    What mill

And you get a 10% discount being an Arbtalk member...
  22. Hopefully they'll be a way for 2 and 3 man firms to become AAAC with minimum of fuss or paperwork... ... and you will find yourself becoming more 'Blu-Ray' combined with 'Betamax moulded'
  23. I'd say I sharpen with the precision grinder 90% of the time. It is for me the best tool for sharpening a chainsaw for under £100 I have ever come across. Use it in the workshop, out in a field and the best thing is you can sharpen while the chainsaw is still in the mill. Fiddly when you open the box, a doodle when you're used to it.... The Alaskans won't be on special but you still get 10% of a 48" so it'll be £180-00 instead of £200 with Arbtalk discount. Just think of the gates Cracker! You'll have to resort to a power tool to do the plugging then!
  24. Carvers are supposed to love lyme for there work (this is more indoor type carving rather than chainsaw carving) but trying to find them to buy the stuff is tricky.... Before you get it milled see if you can get in touch with them. Last one I had wanted it in 4" slabs with as little knots and markings in it as possible. It's still a good timber for indoor furniture and what have you. Quite stable and light. But get her milled and well stickered and out of the weather and you'll find a home for it in the end.
  25. Actually just spoke to Just Saws and they are redeveloping the log debarker for CE purposes so none available for a couple of months.... But I'll get a few in when they're back with a special arbtalk offer!
