  1. Finally the next shipment of Sugihara bars are here. This covers all the smaller length bars and all are the pro versions i.e. non laminated, single piece steel. I would say that the fastest selling will be the 15" Husky running .325 chain for 346, 560 etc. There is a 4 month lead time, I'll be putting another order in beginning April so the next shipment will be around 1st August. These will sell out long before then. Jonsie has taken a full range and they will be in his shop upstairs as well as on the FR Jones website. Also a few interesting bars which I'll do a thread on each. First is a 14" lightweight solid bar with replaceable sprocket nose that has a smaller diameter for more control. Have been playing around bore cutting with this today just to experiment - it seems to work very well. To arbtalkers will be £48-00+vat less 10% so £43-20+vat. Buy here Guide bars Features: One of the only single piece solid bars on the market but with lightweight cut out sections filled with resin. Stiffer and longer lasting. Smaller radius nose sprocket for more control. Weighs 440g - the only other single piece bar is a cannon which weighs 647g. Replaceable sprocket nose Looks good!
  2. Very nice clean job that A good use of timber - if you could mill them out yourself then would earn on the oak and could do longer lengths as required.
  3. No prob Dan register in my site Chainsawbars ? bars, chains and chainsaw accessories then tell me and I can set your 10% discount. Rob
  4. Nicely done Rhob and very artistic on the presentation of pics!
  5. Okey Dokey - the latest batch of Sugihara bars are here! These are all pro versions so solid single piece Stihl with replaceable sprocket nose, have got a lightweight, smaller tip 14" version for the 200T.... next order will have some 12" ones as well... I will be doing lots of threads over the next few days.... I would expect the 13", 15" and 18" Husky bars for 346 and similar to sell fast as well as these 14" ones for 200T.... do not hang about as lead time is 4 months (next order will be 1st April so will not get next lot until 1st August.
  6. Thanks Andy stick your thoughts on the bar up here after you've had a play.
  7. Finally these have just come in - all in boxes in the shed - today I will be quite literally plastering arbtalk with pics and prices so that everyone can see the beautyful shiny things! Just need a bit of time unpacking and taking some pics! FR Jones and son is the only other retailer stocking these at the moment and Justin is taking a full comprehensive range of these bars so to see them and feel them in the flesh go to him: Contact us | F R Jones and Son
  8. Use a chainsaw to rough it out - although I got that turbo plane whatsit from arbortech and it is very good for making bowls - but I know what you mean - not cheap - £100-00 or so. But then they keep coming out with new tools that are idea for doing this sort of thing.
  9. Just a quick bump to this thread
  10. Some nice looking pieces there
  11. Nice Rhob - well it is a cheap bar so as long as you can get a good bit of use out of it.... still got a few left if any takers.
  12. I think I know where there is a Lucas around £3,000 mark - it's the 6" one and it's in Hants! PM me if you're interested.
  13. Had them done in the workshop round the corner where there is a machine that cuts a groove and then you use thick plywood as the biscuit.... the table was not all my own work!
  14. What a cool fence Al
  15. Thanks for the comments - the beds go together in the rooms... the last one took 4 hours - it always takes a lot longer than you think!
  16. You can make a profit - (I hope!) - but the trouble I've found is when you try and scale things up... you can make 20 boards yourself quite easily and sell the at a show and think 'that was good!' Try then making a few hundred using other people to do a lot of the work and retailers to sell them and profit becomes smoke on the wind!

    mill on ebay

I don't I'm afraid - second hand mills don't seem to some up often - you could always try a 'second hand small log mill' wanted type of thread to see if any members on here are looking to move theirs on...
  18. Good post Rhob - nice to see some theory applied.
  19. I think what you have on there are old healed wounds not burrs... they can make good bowls but not a lot else...

    mill on ebay

Let us know how that mill works out - I picked up one of these types as a trade in that I was going to do with my old 50" GB bar with a ripping chain for around £200+vat - it looks fine. I just need to drill the bar as this is what is needed for it. Will be putting it on ebay but will post a link on here when done.
  21. I think you'll like it - in fact they are starting to move so quickly we're out at the moment but some more should be here beginning next week. It's the sort of thing that looks a fiddle to start with - but as long as you set up and you're not in a rush it's very easy to get good results. The best thing is it gets the teeth the same length and now with the larger stones you can also get accurate depth gauges - quickly. The major benefit of this is you can use chains all the way down to the witness mark and they still cut perfectly. In fact the chain is much lighter, chip clearance better so they actually cut faster at the end although you need to increase the depth gauge setting to keep the angle the wood is fed into the top plate the same. 22. Hopefully this is why Eddie has taken over as a front man for Aspen and can start chasing the retailers and/or figuring out a better way for having it more widely available.
  23. Nice to see you posting on here Eddie and just a quick reminder about the pallet of Aspen 2t/bar oil for me next week. You will have fun on this forum and have your work cut out but there are lots of people in favour of using Aspen as well as lots against and it will no doubt be an ongoing debate... I'm not convinced myself that Aspen is greener for the environment due to the extra transport, processing and disposal of empty cans but I am convinced it's better for me and my machines and it saves me a lot of hassal hence why I've used it for the last 6 years apart from in my 090 which I use normal mixed stuff.
  24. Tricky to say but as said could be from not enough bar oil getting onto the chain... if the chain then getting very hot this could have been why it kept slackening off... but bit of a guess really... with the oiler up to max and the bar and chain off is it pulling through a steady stream of oil?
