  3. I've got some 84" Granberg bars in now Dan - will my weedy little body be up to it.... ... not sure yet!
  4. I'll do my best Matt but most days I struggle to remember my own name and even that's when the it's been shouted at me a lot!! There'll be a few threads up when they are here.
  5. Unfortunately the douglas looks a little too knotty to be that useful for milling... The beech looks ok but it's not a very valuable timber... Just a quick bump this thread anyway to see if you get any more interest as you have at least done a good description and added pictures. Rob
  6. It's carcinogenic but only as a fine dust if inhaled when working with it - fine for use as chopping boards.
  7. Any wood will prob last fine... I have a poplar work bench and it's ok but does dent very easily!
  8. I'm not so sure kickback is greater... I have a feeling it's just easier to have that on the ripping chain label as if people did have a kickback when cross cutting with using ripping chain at least they've been told.... I have found no physical tests or proof (if there is any please put in a link) of where the whole 'ripping chain leads to greater kickback' comes from but my hunch is it's easier for the manufacturers to say 'don't use for cross cutting' as it covers them in case of an accident.
  9. I've converted Stihl ripping chain into a Granberg type config but with all set to 10 degrees - works very well. Buying a Stihl ripping chain will save you some time... Stihl does feel like the best chain to me but it's hard to test this to prove it... it certainly looks nicer!
  10. I now file the granberg all at 10 degrees and this works well and there's less fiddling about.
  11. Lovely job!
  12. It's a good size but if it's gone spongy or has that soft flecks don't bother.... You'd have to mill a bit to see how it looks but for chopping boards maybe worthwhile but only if you have nothing else worth milling in the yard!
  13. Nature of the beast with selling logs and joe public - but these sort of calls are only usually a one off... just be polite and they may be turn out to be a good customer... They may have had a reason for calling so early (although I can't really think of one!) who knows but try them first and see what they say....
  14. This fellow was after some wood to make a sign for the restaurant he has started running... it took him around 30 hours to do. I thought it was very nice work indeed.
  15. The only complaints I've had so far this year (other than about the price ) were 'they burn very hard and fast and don't last long'.... .... what can you do!

    First attempt

It was very much tongue in cheek Al - live and let live and all that - you can't really beat the price of these mills - and as you have demonstrated they do the job....
  17. I will be end of Feb if you can hang on! Next shipment of Sugi bars due then - it's a long turnaround... I order and then 4 months until delivery! But as said the next batch due in end of Feb

Of course only kidding - a very nice clean job. P.S I sell the Alaskan chainsaw mills by the way - hence the poor quality quip in that last post!

Pretty much perfect chainsaw milling if you ask me - good results and good method.... .... my only criticism would be the colour of your chainsaw mill - the colour green can deceive the eye and blend into the background causing irregular and crooked planks!

Sorry on a more serious note - if you can get it running well then anything around £600+ Non running then around £250-00 as if something major is wrong it may not be repairable. Try and get it running.

They'll all promise you money but I can tell you you'll never see it... .... but my crisp £20-00 is here, it's real and it could be yours!
  23. Welcome to the forum! If you don't mind me saying asking for chippings like this is a bit vague! Do you want fresh or seasoned chippings? Fresh will be around £25-00 for a transit type load or seasoned around £50. Conifer or just hardwood or not fussed just as it comes? Transit load = around 3 cubic meters or do you need more? If just a few bags of prob just best to buy in from a gardening center.
  24. Ahh..... just spoke to him and he said these ones did not have enough knot free length to be useful
