Quite a lot. All business differ, some lend themselves very easily to lone working, taxi driving, lawn mowing, etc, arb is not quite so easy to do alone, it can be done, but its not always a great idea.

Yes, they were told to stay put. They were ringing 999 and being told to stay in their flat. The brigade had actually attended the flat fire, put it out and were returning to the station when they were called back to the fire on the outside of the building.

Its now looking like the fire service cocked up, it took then half an hour to get a long ladder to Grenfell, apparently they may have got it under control had they got one there ASAP.

I was working with my 75 year old dad for a couple of days last week, helping do some work in his garden. He has become pretty deaf recently and I got a bit irritated by him not being able to hear me ask him things. I asked why he did not put his hearing aids in? "well I keep nipping in the workshop to cut wood etc, so whats the point?" I shook my head, "put them in and wear ear muffs when you run the machines, if you had just done that for the last 50 years you wouldn't need the bloody hearing aids!!" I'm always wear muffs when using machines, I even used to use them when I had my U900 mog. I listen too radio4 with earbuds most of the time, which helps I think, because any noise would prevent me hearing the radio, so I put muffs on, even just on the forklift, digger or processor.

Its called "retention" if those experienced and doing the job are not better than someone keen to do the job, your doing something wrong.

Are the current firefighters doing a good job? Are the applicants of high enough cabler? If the answer to these is yes, why pay more? I guess you would switch car mechanics if you felt the service was god, but the price was too low Remember the pubic sector have many, many benefits beyond their basic pay.

I think the idea of "true democracy" is a flawed one. Its an imperfect system, where a majority can find they don't get what they want, its the largest minority that often wins. A hung parliament is possibly fairer and would possibly be more common under PR, but it can be pretty impotent and lead to stagnation.

I guess. But I'm pretty sure many on the loosing side will still be unhappy. Just look at the referendum, that could not have been fairer, each vote was of exactly equal value, but the re-moaner will never be happy. We live in a time of self entitlement where people feel aggrieved that they have not got their way, regardless of the number.
