  1. No. If you read my earlier posts I stated that I know many teachers and they confirm the things Hutton and Co are saying. Of cause the unions will try and paint a blacker picture than is the reality, in order to frighten their members and fool the public, but we are not all fools.
  2. :001_rolleyes:You should never believe what you read in the news rags.
  3. Nope. If that was true climbers would be out of work, as MEWPs would have taken over.
  4. Please watch the short video clip in this link BBC News - Public service pension overhaul urged by Hutton report He clearly states that all acrewed rights are kept.
  5. They are chill out days, then send all the kids home so the teachers can relax and watch movies!!!!
  6. I know a lot of teacher, they only go in occasionally when the kids aren't there. I know one who has a yacht and sales for the whole of the summer holidays. If they are in school over the holidays, why do they always kick up a stink when people suggest the holidays are shortened??
  7. Did you not go to school?????????? They get about 14 weeks off per year!!!!! Lancashire School Holiday and Term Dates 2010 - 2011
  8. Not at all!!! A decent climber would have up that and have put the gob in before the MEWP was even set up!!! Plus the cost of the MEWP would be turned into pure profit!!!
  9. Do you have a link to an official site with this information??
  10. Also would you not need to also up rate the brakes??
  11. I have a mate who is a teacher (has been all his life and so is his father) he says the years he has paid are safe, but going forward he will get less for the years he has left to work, so will end up with less. New teacher will get only the new rate.
  12. Another point, teachers get at least 10 weeks more holiday per year than the rest of us, so for them to have worked the same 40 years as the rest of us, they need to work an additionally 8.46 years. So really if we are retiring at 65 they should be working to 73.
  13. Going forward from now, not retrospective, if you have paid in X number of years thats fixed and you will get whatever you have acrewed up to the change. So on retirement they will get a % at the old rate and the remainder at the new rate.
  14. This is in no way a criticism of this job, it looks like a great job carried out extremely well!!!!!!!!!!!! But to suggest that climbing that Cedar would be more dangerous than taking out that huge top from a MEWP is just ridiculous!! This is the problem when those who don't understand our work (HSE and the like) start dictating how it should be done on the grounds of safety.
  15. Why do teachers need to retire???? Is marking books and standing at the front of the class not possible at 65+?????????????? My father is 70 in march and still works almost full time as a joiner.
  16. It currently 65, but is going up to 68 at some point. I think in time retirement will be a thing people used to do.
  17. They may stop you getting pulled, by making the truck look better, but they won't lessen the fine you will get if you are pulled or involved in an accident while over weight.
  18. I have some of those!!!! Normally when I cock it up Thats why I always flush cut my stumps and chip the evidence!!
  19. They don't half stink though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. Really I'm very surprised by this. I've sold a fair bit of Elm over the years and none of the buyers has ever asked if it was alive or dead when felled. I have a mate who's a furniture maker, who has made a great deal of beautiful furniture from DED killed Elm. As far as I'm aware the only affect the DED has on the tree is to cut off the water supply, it only enters the cambium, how does this have a detrimental affect on the timber?
  21. Does the difference remain even once both are dryed??
  22. So do you just defer the payment of whats due, above the day rate, till you have got paid??
  23. Why do people mention that its un diseased?? DED in no way damages the timber, in fact it tends to improve the timber as it usually requires less drying. Or am I missing something???????????
