  1. No longer in production.
  2. Can't find anything on the net, there were many deaths of children from house fires in Rochdale, so maybe it was that?? So sad to hear of young lives snuffed out so long before their time.
  3. Are talking hoppus (sp) foot???
  4. Thats doing just fine and looks to be a very good age. I halved a very lapsed Beech hedge the other week, TO wanted them felled, I said they would flush..................................time will tell
  5. Indeed The difference between training and the real world seems HUGE some times
  6. Nice one Communication is the key
  7. Looks like Beech?, so I would say inability to photosynthesises through the bark and lack of dormant buds????
  8. I have a fear of falling from a great hight and hitting the floor very hard, but I use a rope and harness to prevent this I also have a fear of hitting things or things hitting me in my car on the Mway at 80MPH. I'm in far more control up a tree than I am on the road, so I know which worries me more
  9. Nope, one of the first firms I climbed for was a timber merchant, they were a very well established firm and Jeff is probably the best hardwood faller I have ever worked with, I lean't more in the time I worked with him than with any one else. If you work for an established tree firm there will be an exchange of knowledge and if they are already established there is business to build. If you climb for a gardening firm that fancies doing tree work you are giving knowledge and not really receiving any in return and enabling them to enter a field they would not be entering without your input. IMO
  10. I know of a Botex crane that snapped and fell of the forwarder 2 weeks after it passed its annual LOLER inspection.
  11. I really don't think this is true, can you find me one case of equipment failure causing a climbing accident??, yet we have LOLER.
  12. TBH I think its more about making work for those who have been in the industry for a while and either can't hack it or just fancy a cushier job.
  13. Fair enough. I would have had to ask, I'm going to google it and see if I can find out.
  14. Some good advice so far. On thing I would not do is climb for gardening firms, stick to tree firms, don't let someone build a business on your abilities.
  15. Good point, real coffee always helps too
  16. It is important to manage customers expectations. You got the job done and had the bottle to post it on here James, so you deserve our respect We've all done jobs were given chance to start over we would do things differently. Many walk away when things don't go well, I heard of a very well established firm walking away from a job not finished, because they were going to loose money by finishing (very unprofessional IMO) There are always many different ways of doing most jobs, we choose the one we think will work best and make us the best profit, we usually get it right, but not always
  17. You can buy a lot of sheets of ply for the cost of crane hire.
  18. Try the firms in the adds at the right of the screen, these guys are specialists and will give you good advice on whats best for your needs, good luck with the course
  19. Indeed, if they were 8/9 inch I'm a much bigger boy than I thought
  20. Thats really nice, had the 6 children died???
