  1. The bottom link does not work Stan. Great post!!
  2. Not too bad now, but was raining so hard earlier that the Sky went off!!
  3. Are we confusing "skill" with "Professionalism", I don't think they are the same. I've met a great many professionals with very little if any skill. I like to think that when it comes to tree work I have some skill, but I'm not to huge up on being called a professional, although its how I earn my keep, so by some measures I must be. In most occupations there are those with real skill, when you come across one they are a pleasure to watch. I have a friend who has been operating machines for decades, I can watch him working for hours, the digger becomes an extension of him. He was skidding out some timber for me on a steep, greasy bank, the tractor slid round and would have gone over, he just spun it back round with no fuss or drama, the lads working with me were amazed.
  4. Maybe its because they only do tree work, many Co's are landscapers who also do tree work.
  5. With all this talk of a big blow, even references to 87 on the radio today. I very much doubt we will get anything on the scale of 87. But if we did, how different would things be?? 1000's of tonnes of timber was just bonfired back then, with timber prices now I don't think much would be wasted these days. Also there are so many more firms today and all the weekend warriors wanting timber, things would be very different. TBH I'm not sure these sort of events actually do us much good long term.
  6. You should have split the handle and disconnected the wires from inside the front of the handle.
  7. Personally I would not get huge up on numbers of years, get them in, get them up a tree, see what they can do, IME you can soon see who can and who can't.
  8. 17 years to become a consultant?? I don't think so, also GP's ARE consultants. Also, you can't be a "Professional builder", there is no such thing as a "Builder", there are brickys, joiner's, plumbers, etc, but no "builders".
  9. Why did he sell the mog? whats he running now?
  10. Does a profession not have to have a governing body, such as the medical council or the sports governing body, with the power to strip its member of their ability to practice or compete??
  11. Three, first one was an U1100 crew cab, then a U1000 that I had a bigger engine fitted in, making it into a U1200, which Stevie now owns. I know have a 200HP U1600. Never had a U1250, my U1200 was orange.
  12. Its a "Trade", we are "Trades man". Some are skilled, some not so much. IMO.
  13. Not being funny, but why would you be moving with the saw at full revs??
  14. TBH, I don't use the brake as often as I should. I found an old video of me climbing from 15 or so years ago, I was amazed at how good I was at putting the brake on and I did no holding and cutting, it was all step cuts, put saw down and break it off. I've clearly picked up many bad habits over the years:blushing:
  15. I enjoyed it, the bit about trees was interesting, they put some small Birch in containers along a busy residential road. Pollution in the homes was measured before the trees and after, there was a significant reduction with the trees in place.
  16. 15", its my son's, its a fantastic saw
  17. Looks like they were butchered to me, crown lifted to within an inch of their lives.
  18. For me comfort and dryness are the most important things, I only ever get 12months out of my Hiax's, but they are just so comfy and always dry.
  19. I was talking to the guys who fitted my crane, they were saying they have real problems with trucks not arriving so they can fit cranes to them, often the truck dealer tells the customer that the truck has been at the crane fitter for far longer that it actually has:sneaky2:
