    Yes we also had to use a heat main, 55Mtr to the house and 15mtr to the kiln, you have to try and get pretty deep, we are mostly on bed rock so it was a tough job, I installed the heat main myself to keep costs down. As well as not needing a tank the Central boilers have the advantage of not needing a building.

    You need plenty of kindling if lighting from scratch or charcoal would be even better. Once lit its easy to keep in, as long as the wood is pretty dry. Nothing I don't like really, I've heated our home with out door boilers for the last 20 years, so this is just more high tech.

    No need for a buffer tank, the boiler hold enough water.

    I've just had a Central Boiler 3200 90KW installed, heating a log kiln and our home, very impressed so far.

    My point, as stated, it why have MEWP's not taken over?? If they really are faster, those with them would be out competing those without. No one runs without a chipper, it would just be bad business, why have MEWP's not proved to be the same???

    I do cut and chuck 99% of my work, for the very reasons you state, I watch videos of people lowering all the brash, thinking they must be protecting the grass, but then watch with amassment as they crash out the timber If MEWP's are so fast why have they not taken over?????? Those who invested in one should surely be able to out compete all the old stick in the muds and clean up, but its just never happened??????? Why?????? The HSE have to actively push there use!! WHY????????:confused1: . Because they are slow!!!!!!!! Chippers 20 years ago no one had chippers, but the speed things up and make there owner money, no one would seriously consider going into tree work without one, buts MEWP's have been around for longer than chippers

    You are the one who is missing the point. My crane does things I cannot, it lifts huge lumps of timber and puts them neatly in my trailer, sure I occasionally ride the hook, but only when I want the crane there anyway to move some timber, so its not a waste of time or fuel. A MEWP only does the same job as a decent climber and a piece of rope, adding huge costs for no additional return. I think the thread your thinking of was about remove veg from a wall, where climbing was not an option.

    I've often run up the stairs and beaten the lift I guess it depends if you want to be the fat guy in the lift or the fit guy on the stairs

    Utter rubbish, I think your projecting this macho crap:001_rolleyes: For me work is mostly about money, time is money, hire costs or another machine to pay for, all these costs would come out of my pocket. Climbing continually sharpens your skills and ups your production rate, which maximises profit. I'd sooner have the money thanks you can keep the macho crap. Sure I am a climber, its what I do, but I don't tell most people and even if I did few would be impressed or even know what it entailed.

    Bring on the race!!!!!!!!! A good climber would wipe the floor with even the best MEWP operator, IME. Many MEWP operators are faster in the cage than the tree, but thats because are not very quick in the tree. With anchor failure thats down to poor choices, which YOU as a climber chose. IMO when climbing your in far more control. I hate MEWP's and don't use them, but thats just me

    I don't know anyone who buys in fire wood as their main fuel. Its always been expensive and messy, compared to gas or coal. Most people either have wood burners as a lifestyle thing, getting most of their timber free but having to cut and dry themselves or its just for the odd atmospheric evening.
