Thats the great thing about Tree Work,you can work and experience the local culture just about anywhere. Best of luck on your new advernture,sometimes I miss the life style I led for 8 years of travelling around doing Tree work.

Nail.Head Bolam. That is exactly why I never bother with a face cut,tight rope and full throttle in from the back.After all,the Tree always hinges from its Roots.

Haix were the first dedicated Chainsaw protective Boot I bought,back in 2000,they did me very well..When I returned to Europe in 2007 I bought another pair,sadly they lasted about 10 months before the sole fell off. My Meindl's have lasted me 2 years,exceptional service given the price. -
They have become very popular,especially on the forearms,hands and neck. Bad move for future employment.

Depends on the outfit.Street Tree Crews or the bigger commercial outfits perhaps not.Smaller Companies doing mostly private work then it will.

It won't matter if you have ("My blood group is 0 Neg) Tattooed in Red Ink across your forehead.They will still run your type anyway.

Picking the best out of a bad bunch seems to be the case with small trucks these days. None if the engine of drive train options seem adaquate to pull the trucks maximum towing weight consistantly. I suppose the vehicles are designed and built to target the largest consumer group and those using them for work are not catered too.

Be a good chipper i would say. Just ask masons for a list of what they repaired/replaced.

Tattoo designs often "bracket" people to the era of their youth. Tribal armbands-early 1990s Koi Carp/silk screen on upper arm-early 2000's Neck/hand abstract designs-today,harder to cover up and more potentially regrettable than both of the above. I remember when I saw the first Koi Carp tattoo,I was most impressed.Now they are common place. Likewise with the "Tramp stamp"aka "Arse Antlers".Now the once nubile recipients of those Tattoos have gained a few pounds and the once taught skin has sagged...

Even so Tattoos are often racially segregated. For example,it is not acceptable to many Maori for people of European decent to have Maori designs.In some parts of New Zealand you could well get a solid beating for that. I once saw a "Roided up" Chav in Kent with Maori designs on his forearms,if he chested it about Murupara or Nuhaka with them visable he might be looking at skin grafts.

A guy I worked with in the bush in New Zealand,he boldy chose "Chaos" to be tattooed down his arm.Sadly the Tattooist lacked a dictionary and instead the unlucky chap sports "Choas" down his arm. The Spanish work for "Chaos" i am sure.

I think it is important to look at it from the potential customers perspective.Neck and hand tattoos are generally unacceptable to the older generation who make up a fair percentage of our clients. If you are working on a job,as part of a team then any prejudice would likely be off set by the tidy rapid completion of the job with some interaction with the client. However all turning up to a quote with neck and hand tattoos might well mean you are not the guy they choose. You could however simply wear a skivvy and gloves.

Excellent first chipper. Put another Engine on it,paint it if you can and treat it to a new set of Bearings.When you out grow the machine,keep it as a back up.

Thank you all for your replies. David.I do not remember seeing it on any Trees in the UK,I wasn't interested in Fungus then. I will cook it up just now,I vaguely remember it being edible. The Client is worried the Tree might come down in a Storm,it has a very limited Root area and stands just a few feet from the House.

I found this on a veteran Oak that has sustained machine damage as well as being topped. There are about 5 brackets up to about two meters above a decaying wound.The fungus has grown out if the living cambium I have no idea what fungus it is

Spot on Rupe! I have a bloke working for me now,who did his Large Tree Felling ticket in Wales before he came over.After seeing him kok up a few medium Trees I asked how many Trees he felled on his course... 4 Trees! They cost him £100 per Tree.

I can't see the problem with it. I hire in kit that i dont have the constant demand for,some of which is owned by people I compete against. The splitter would be at a yard,converting waste into product in a way more efficient than normal.I think people would see the value in hiring it.

I tell them the waiting time and call them a week before we begin. Most people are happy with this arrangement. work is steady here.

.44 Magnum,so pretty ordinary.The .50 ones are banned here.Although they are substantially less powerful than a 20 gauge shotgun.
