  1. Bestt description of Ross. Ever.
  2. Without trying to sound negative, if you put an alpine butterfly in as a back up, why no just tie into that with a revolver or pulley etc? Never knew that was called the secret weapon! Looks cold there, where is it? Cheers for posting bro
  3. Not that I know of bro, whereabouts are you?
  4. Nice bro. Whereabouts?
  5. in summer i wash my sip progress virtually every other day if its real hot and sweaty. just a small spin in plain water to wash them out, i cant see how they can be worn for 6 months with no washing. It cant be good for you surely...........
  6. move overseas and see the world whilst job humting. always seems easier when your away from home as money issues seem to be easier to handle ie youve constantly got none but if you stay in backpackers your not the only one.
  7. awesome work bro.
  8. Haast's Eagle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  9. Have a search for the haast eagle now extinct from nz. These huge birds could carry moa away- The moa was the size of an ostrich.
  10. Using 2 enables you to balance each end, using 1 just puts the attachment in the middle. Or did you mean a spiderleg bro? You coming upto northland next week?
  11. Fair call bro, if it can't be done it can't be done. I suppose the biggest worry is someone without your experience rushing into it. You've started a great thread here and I'm sure there is going to be some interesting discussion.
  12. Some of the trees on the lake edge are very weird shapes indeed!
  13. Would changing to a dynamic rope at the top work? Then choke slings on the stem as you go up higher and put your climbing line through them, like lead climbing on rock. Might be a bit time consuming but if the anchor failed at least some of the energy would be absorbed and youwould be spreading the load more as you climbed higher? Or not? I've had a few dodgy moments when ascending in open space and unsure of the anchor point, I've invested in binos for this reason now.
  14. I've got the sips and there pretty good. The material is a bit weird but is very stretchy. Just wish they weren't black as they heat up quickly but still way cooler than chainsaw trousers. I would of got the stretch airs but the sizing fitted me better on the sips, I'm 6ft 2 and the stretch airs had a huge waist to get the correct leg length for me.
  15. It doesn't seem a problem up here tbh, the council mulch movers never seem to be bothered. Off subject butim in the Marlborough sounds at the moment and it's 135kmh winds!! Hope the roof stays on
  16. We run bc1000 and they seem to chip up cordyline ok but yeah, sometimes the fronds look the same when they come out of the chipper
  17. When I first got them i did but after that I didn't really. Mine let in water as a small section of the Rand peeled away. Now it's roasting hot I'm normally climbing in my salewa boots.
  18. For work boots I agree bro, klima airs are real tough but I think the meindls just beat them on comfort. And mine eventually starting leaking too
  19. Scarpa pro ascents are massively rated as top climbing boots and will last a while. For me none of the chainsaw protection boots are that good for climbing as they are just to big and cumbersome but out of them all the meindl airstreams are the best I've worn. I had the tango gronnel climbersboofs but they just fell apart with wearing them, the sole wore out inabout 3 months. I've now go the salewa approach boots, stupidly light full goretex vibram soles. Wonder how well they will last though....

I think the Tasmanian surf break is the most nuts thing on that list- pure unadulterated danger!

Cheers guys, a lifelong ambition achieved. We were going back at the end of nov but the pike river disaster halted those plans. It's now cyclone season in Vanuatu so the plan I'd to now return at te end of march to film the return to ambrym island and to go deeper down inside the volcano. We may spend up to 2 months at the crater as the footage we got last time has enabled us to gain a bigger budget to do it again. The logistics and organising is already in motion, 2km ropes have been made and are being shipped already. Can't wait to return, it's an amazing place. If possible we will be trying to organize trips for others to see this amazing spectacle
  23. how happy am i to be on this:001_smile: The Ultimate Adventure Bucket List -- National Geographic Adventure
  24. As old snake said....
  25. Bro, my anchor point snapped and it put no shockload on th base, it was all freefall:) it was a bad choice of anchor not a bad choice of base belay. Give me a cinch to destroy and we'll test it bro. If it is a dodgy anchor and you have no choice, I just chuck in a shock absorber. Is any device designed for anchoring a static line? Does the isc descender(ab) work well here?
