    Descenders

Cheers Peter, I'd completely overlooked that one. I'll check with them today .
  2. This was a bit similar.. large leaning oak developed a big split through the centre at the base and was poised for removal or very heavy reduction, so to get it below the canopy of neighbouring trees and out of the wind. Decided to coronet as i had the opportunity. We left one stem as a stub so we can see how the tree reacts over time and which looks the best.

    Descenders

We've tried the rack and it bent the rope too much and just wouldn't run. Tbh I don't think there's anything that works tht well with so much rope hanging below, the best effort so far was a vt set up in a f8 system, trouble is we went through too much hitch cord. Cheers anyway guys

    Descenders

no worries cheers rupe, for the first run we will have rope in bag but after that it will be free hanging off tripods. hell of a lot of rope(x3) to flake into the bag everyday!

    Descenders

What descender works the best when used in conjunction with 10mm line and up to 500m of rope hanging below? ISC have kindly given the AB descender to trial but what are peoples thoughts on other descenders with this much rope hanging below, i read the grigri only works with upt o 200m of rope below. any help much appreciated.

  10. as mog said. nice one.
  11. Not banned in tree work bro just competitions.
  12. Yep, I had mine replaced with a vibram sole, same rubber but different tread pattern
  13. SIP progress front protection only for chainsaw use and the no protection ones for silky work. the black gets a bit hot in summer though.
  14. pretty sure swazi is till 100% nz made-they went into turmoil last year when the MOD stopped be ing supplied by them and went to a chinese manufacturer instead, i think.
  15. I found the armour prus bit down too hard and tight on te new England tachyon so went back to ocean polyester. On my teufelberger tchyon they both work as good as each other for me at least. It's just a pity the stitched eyes are so expensive in n
  16. I wouldn't climb in anything but a treemotion, I've gotta 4 yr old one that is still in tip top condition and do haven't even bothered setting my new one up. It's all personal opinion, but it's the best harness bar none for me. Though to be fair, it's a bit hammered after the volcano trip:(
  17. I thought they were similar rob! Hope it's workin out for you bro, I tried one in auckland but maybe a Bit warm in the stupid city weather of torrential rain then burning sun then rain then burning sun etc... Real nice for climbing though bro. What are you uptoo these days anyway? For the record I've got a new macapac jacket made from event fabric that's super breathable and waterproof - great for climbing but not sure how long it would last.
  18. Any sponsors out there for the next trip? Prime time show in oz for an hour special? Not ashamed to beg....
  19. Cheers guys, myself and jono were just there having fun playing with ropes, expedition organizer was geoff mackley, camera guys were James Reynolds, Bradley Ambrose and Daniel lacy. These guys all made a great crew to work with and the trip all the more memorable. We had a 22 hr boat trip to get to the volcano where we saw dolphins, flying fish coming ove the boat, then 2 days in a very tribal village being shown aroun by the village elders then choppered up to the crater. The mag a was the icing on the cake. Cheers guys.
  20. It's the coarse grit that wears your gear through as it coats the ropes, the sulphur is just unpleasant most of The time ie breathing. Were probably 400m away from te lake- off back in 6 weeks to try and get closer to film, it just an extaordinary amount of gear required. We took over 1.2 kms o rope on this trip and still not enough, this time we want to take ropetec wraptors to help us ascend quickly from the magma if it gets too hot- it's hard to move in th heat proof gear and also tripods to hold ou ropes above the scoria, as it's all choppered in the price gets quite high very quickly.

  22. I should have some more HD video to post over the next week or two. Can't wait to do more now. The whole place glows bright orange at nigh whenyour lying in your tent, you can just stare at the magma for hours as it just does it's thing.
  23. Geoff Mackley's Site Directory just got back from the trip-amazing experience, we camped on th crater rim for 8 days with a 600m drop into the lava lake below a couple of metres away. The lava lake is about 2-3 football pitches in size and the total crater is jut mindblowingly big! The noise from the lava is deafening an it spurts about 100m straight up-unbelievable the power of nature at it's rawest. The pics and vid are cool but still nothin like being there-I had a great time but the sulphur wrecks ya gear went through 2 cinchs, 6 crabs 2 ropes and a treemtion harness but who cares, what a trip
  24. 50m tachyon with hitchclimber setup vt and a shorter 25m set up with same config. try to keep everything the same so no confusion ever sets in. 3.5m lanyard witha cinch, normally off the side d's but sometimes i run it off the centre and use it as a single line.
  25. we leave today to go do this..... on the volcano for up to 4 weeks to get film the lava lake up close:001_smile: Leaving Facebook... | Facebook
