explained in another thread-my anchor snapped out as it was weak.-you mentioned weakess of limbs in your original post
  10. What sort of work? The electrical companies will always be after people but maybe not on such a short term contract. Exactly whereabouts in northland, Bay of islands, whangarei, etc... Its officially a drought area at the moment too
  11. Ya reckon? ive tried having it longer and it doesnt twist the rope as much but i then cant reach it when stretched out. Im now using more wraps at the top and less braids and that seems to stop the twisting a bit.......
  12. Probably a bit far away for most people but ProClimb and Treetools: arborist supplies are holding a free rigging workshop next wednesday at Mt Wellington, Auckland, NZ. The GRCS, all of the STEIN RC gear, ProClimb Rigging Bollard and standard Portawrap will be being used to show how they all perform and how you can make the most out of each bit of gear. See the TreeTools website for more info. This will be well worth while for anyone to attend and its totally free:001_smile:. Ill be there to take some photos as im not supposed to be working:sneaky2:
  13. standard and o rig
  14. if you havent got a pantin, then you could just make a half hitch and put your foot in it. Think its called the 'poor mans pantin' your weight will hold the half hitch closed but as you move yor foot up, the half hitch wil open.
  15. Good timing steve, we were having this discussion yesterday. which one to order from the UK. looking forward to the results....
  16. those are the best ones bro!

Dont listen to me anymore regarding throwlines:thumbup:
  18. I tested the anchor before ascending-couple of big bounces and there was abit of movement but nothing that isnt normal. It wasnt a massive tree so from the ground it looked sweet as. If im throwing over 20m i try to use a single lense binocular(sure its got a proper name) to make sure its cool to climb on. I think the throwlining anchor points will come up in the accident investigation but i cant really see any other way to be efficient when doing lots of climbs in aday. BUT as we had identified these trees as being abit dodgy then maybe we should of anchored lower and inspected more thoroughly as i ascended to final tie in point. BUT i still would of tied into this particular branch once i got there as there was no visible signs of weakness, even when it split open there was no signs of decay or anything untoward. Ive mentioned in the past that these oaks sometimes fall over for no reason(that we can visually see) so there is definelty something going on thats not right. David-luckily my ankle was sweet, it was my first thought when i landed but when i got up i realised my neck was the sore bit this time. ps i got back up and finished the tree out of pure anger at what had happened, then my boss insisted i went to a and e. gotta love adrenalin:001_smile:
  19. im finding that the duck doesnt work too well on the treemotion harness as it flops around too much, a friend stuck it on his sequioa srt harness and it worked heaps better.
  20. yeah nice pic bro-explains it well.
  21. Asplundh are down in q town and not sure of the other names.
  22. aaahhh the pleasures of codeine in the morning.
  23. maybe the anchors are too small, for the trees are known to be abit dodg. thats something ill be going over when i go back to work and we do an assessment of what happened for the other crews. This branch had no decay whatsoever-its at work so ill try and get apic before it gets chipped! I just hope theres no knee jerk reaction to us climbing them-if it makes everyone a bit more aware of checking anchors etc.. then its got a postive outcome.
  24. im just glad i stopped and started to downclimb- was only 3-4 m from the ground when it gave way, i could of been alot higher. if things feel wrong they generally are so stop and reassess-thats my new motto. Damn you guys are quick!! cheers guys for ya words. After ct scans and x rays it looks like ive only done muscular damage and torn some ligaments hold ing my vertabrae-the next x rays will check that the good ligaments arent pulling my vert out of line. I landed on my feet as was expecting it to fail-stop drop and roll.
  25. Havnt seen it anywhere else david in nz. If the council like it it will happen abit more hopefully. After yesterdays anchor collapse i hope it gets done to more of these as the branches are all buggered and waiting to drop. Its a real challenge to make it look natural. i really enjoyed doing it and explaining to dog walkers, etc.. why its being done.
