  15. Hi all, We are organising a days course in Cumbria and one in East Lancs/West Yorkshire.. The aim of the course is purely to show you what to look for in trees and how to identify bat potential, we will also give details on what to do if you come across bats and give you details of local contacts for in an emergency..... Unlike the Arb Association course we will not teach you about bat biology etc for half a day as we realise the working arborist does not want to know this, they just want to know if a tree they plan to work on has a high potential for bats etc... and if so what do they have to do. So i am just wondering who would be interested in this sort of course... If we have a good response we will carry out the day awareness in other parts of the country.
  16. Mine lasted 8 months before exactly the same problem:scared: I love the first butterfly, but had my first climb in the kolibri on friday - liked it alot.......
  17. Those boots dont even look worn in..... These are what i call well used boots lol:icon14: If you notice you dont need climbing spikes as the metal protection underneath is sticking out at the toes lol
  18. A really simple one i was taught as a wee lad.... Look after your equipment and it will save you money. Look after your equipment and it will save you time. Look after your equipment and it will look after you.
  19. Keep looking and get stuck in, work hard for someone and they will help you progress your career...
  20. The majority of accidents dont happen to compitent users. As i take it why do the HSE not record DIY accidents as accidents in the building trade but tree related accidents by part timers, cowboys and diy'ers are recorded as industry accidents and therefore we as an industry are punished. Until the above is addressed the HSE are working under false pretences.....
  21. First of all well done for caring and making the effort, most people say bugger it when they see the cost in using bio oil..... It all comes down to the viscosity of the oil - during winter when its colder i know many that use veg oil etc, but during the wamer season veg and sunflower oil are not thick enough to last in the tank for any period of time and therefore offer enough lubrication (hope that makes sense).... We have an environmental policy that states we only use bio oils etc, i think and get feedback from clients that this is considered more and more:icon14:
  22. I think that will be great, usually its just consultants that consult on the BS standards, the problem being when its a standard for the working arborist they dont know what is correct for us and what is current etc etc etc...... As a member of UKTC forum i am some times shocked and appaled about comments and decisions stated on there, but if we as arborists at the dirty end of the biz dont make an effort to get involved in the consultation of new standards then we are to blame.... So yes lets get a response from the forum and get involved to enhance the industry for working arborists and of course the trees....
  23. Friday - Bracing a large Walnut Also my new landy tipper on its first outing:wave:
  24. We also use Trust insurance, but i am going to give NFU a pop when it comes to renew, they dont advertise that they do it but they do and are very reasonable....
  25. True - get a swear box going and give the proceeds to charity....
