  1. I have often thought where can you get the toe spikes from, i would like to give it a go but want to get some practice in before i gave it a belt in public..... I saw at APF some of those guys can move bloody fast.
  2. Thats it land rovers cost little amounts on lots of occasions, whenever anything gets done to my land rovers i just get them to tell me how much it wold cost on something foreign - i then get a warm feeling inside:proud:
  3. [/i] Yes and seen evidence of this too. I think too many people get hung up what damage can be caused to a tree by cable bracing, afterall you only should be specifying it when the only other option is felling the tree etc..... Cable bracing is not a solution to tree safety or health, it is only a way of extending a trees useful working life..
  4. We use the Gefa system and products, they are really good and much better than Cobra, cheaper too...
  5. it seems a substantial machine for £26k, esp if you compare to others on the market. Whats the service backup like if located in cumbria/lancashie?
  6. hi edenarb, there is a couple of us going from cumbria, if you want to get a lift with us let us know....
  7. hi treedave, i had a go in a bowler in Saudi - ythe only way to describe them is holy sh*!... if i had a spare £50,000 grand there would be one in my garage
  8. the method on the street is to not block up the bore holes, you need to allow air to circulate - if you block the hole and you have transfered pathogens from a previous tree... well need i say more.
  9. Takes less time than the full fat picus but the results are not as conclusive. The picus is great when showing non arbs the severity of decay, if thats what you need to prove a case to sceptics and back up your decisions then the picus is what you want, if you want to do trees over DBH 36 then you need the full fat picus as the lite isnt very accurate on larger trees.
  10. Saturdays job - two nice sized h chestnuts, both are a bit ropey but hold alot of centimental value for owner we were just taking some weight out of them to extend there usefull life for as long as possible....
  11. HI it is substantialy cheaper than its big brother, i have used the lite, is good but not as good as the picus tom, i can see it being great for aerial use... For anyone thinking of buying a picus in any form would suggest saving your money and buying a nylon hammer and going on mike ellison's course - once you get an ear for the sound you can compete with the picus.......
  12. only just found this thread, hera are mine - both are lancashire heelers.... Millie is liver and tan, not many around ! Dot is a lazy arse- in our bed as normal.. Love all the dogs on here, i would have loads if the wife would let me...
  13. They know there business when it comes to managing veteran trees and many many trees are cable braced instead of removing.. i have had many a nice time working in france and germany, i belive that trees are more important to themthan the general brit....
  14. I think we will get each to demo, i like it when people work to sell you something, my list of niggles are: hopper size, hopper height, in feed rollers - infact the list is endless, i will just give each ago seems the best way to probably decide which is best for us and the work we do. I do like the look and feel of the jensens, but we currently run a timberwolf 190dh which i really like, i have heard alot of good things recently about the greenmechs but they seem to be a twiglet product (love or hate) What are peoples experiences with servicing and in field service... this would be a major selling point for me as i cant stand it when people sell you something and then dont care about afterservice etc...
  15. we currently hire in a t-wolf 150t - 6" is a good machine, but you always see the utilities boys with the jensen's....... Is this because they get a good deal or do they take a good beating and are a reliable machine, thats the million dollar question.
  16. I am looking at 6" but am tempted to go a bit bigger.. what you say above is true you cant compare unless you have used all options..
  17. I am currently in the market for a tracked chipper. The problem is everyone i speak to has praise for a different machine and hate the rest! Which have you got or worked with and what are the positives/negatives etc... Please be as critical as you can. Thanks Chris
  18. hi you cant do much better than a peli knife, i bought mine with a small keyring torch as a set, they are both glow in the dark... Very handy as i have lost so many knives over the years, not any more. think the set was £15, you can get off ebay or fom http://www.waterproofcases.co.uk
  19. Or get him to hammer it in to his head - he is always moaning, we call him victor
  20. not many can sharpen a saw well, they could do to teach it in college - in field conditions, we had a new groundie and he started complaining that we didnt have a vice etc, we nicely explained welcome to the real world.....
  21. never send a signed copy before they pay, and state on the invoice that the report is not valid unless signed... works every time. Also if they say its a problem when you quote you know hat they are bad payers....
  22. We do alot of consultancy work, it usually takes 2-3 months to get paid off developers or architects, we find councils, utilities and charities usually pay on time unless there is a mix up at some stage, housing associations are often bad payers. We have recently had larger architects say they want 90 and even 120 day accounts, we reply that yes you can but there is a premium on the invoice of 30%. to cover the inconvineance..... A good trick to fish out crap payers is to quote and give a price for if the job is paid within 30 days and another price for if paid after 30 days, the good thing about that is if it is a problem you instantly know they are bad payers...... The comments above do not apply to all individuals and companies etc. chris
  23. find his property and say you are going to tip x amount of greenwaste untill it amounts to the value owed, it has worked for us when people owe us money, works even better if you can block there cars in the process. You could even make a little extra by running a book on how quickly they pay up - hint usually within 2mins.....
  24. I meant to post the pic of the entrance to the tree we capped, i will just double check which rooost the pic is of but if its the one i think it is yes it is a winter roost and has about 22 nocs in it.. You seem quite interested in the bats if you pm me and let me know where you are i might be able to get you involved in some work.... we went to look at a 95ft multistemmed beech today with noc roost today - tree is shot and needs to be removed - eps licence is in place and we will exclude bats and remove tree... nice work, nice location and huge tree what more can an arb want !!! :)
  25. A picture of noctule roost, note the urine stain coming from the hole/entrance Bat survey using endescope to check cavities
