  9. its about the management of the risk. when that is potentially higher than the excitable level, a management plan should be put in place. you don't have to do anything to the tree to be managing it.
  10. Hi first point to get right, as the land/tree owner you don't have to reduce the risk, you have to Manage the risk. the tree looks ok, but inspect again in 12 months, tree risk management done!
  11. yep but only if you want to look like a mud monster:001_tt2: 3x on the pre wetting:thumbup1:
  12. showa 330 gloves, get about 2 week out of a pair, climbing then use them for logging ect. use the thermal ones in winter. don't see why you'd need thin dexterous gloves, unless your splicing you rope up the tree:001_tt2: that's a whole different argument, tech don't make you a good climber:biggrin:

  15. the German system is different though, much stricter, if you have a business, you must hold a qualification in that area of work and all companies are vat registered, so the germans know they are going to have to pay as they are getting a pro frim to do the work, there is little 'white van man tree work' driving down the value of the work. you can set your price how you want in this free market, but there is always some one who will do it cheaper 'because its a free market' and the majority of customers are not repeat so are looking for the best value, which they perceive is the cheapest. although we all know that this is not always the case,
  16. I've only ever wanted a decent weeks wage for a easy days work.... I think a lot depends on your business model, I make more % profit now than I did with loads of staff and turn over, so I can work for less than I used to and make more! we'll never get paid top dollar as people don't have a high value of trees and an hours work on their central heating boiler is worth more than a days pruning! and then of course your going to do all the work for free, as you want the fire wood. marc, they are the same. you said that you'd pay more for supplies if you got good service from knowledgeable staff, is that not the same as what would give more value on a tree job?
  17. saw this add on the back of a wagon the other day:confused1: Stop Burning Our Trees
  18. yes he has two ascenders, but not two points of attachment, as they are tied together! there are many other issues which were covered in the other thread agrimog, I've been climbing for over 30 years and seen lots of new ideas, even had some of my own, but I go with agent arb that going home at the end of the day is the main thing.
  19. i'll be on the treeworker stand
  20. BTS turned over £13milion before I left a few years ago lol
  21. pay their wages monthly, so the cost of training/amount outstanding can be taken, if they leave early/before the training offset cost have been worked off
  22. I don't think that we'll all be retaking our NPTC units, we will be doing more cost effective LANTRA updating courses. Cant see why if you were to take a higher course say rigging you would need to update your climbing ticket..... but then it would all be on the R2 registrar any way
