  1. It's not a level playing field out there these days. The smaller independents can't outbid the big boys on standing timber and invariably end up cutting/harvesting for them! I've been trying to buy roundwood from independents for a long time now, but unfortunately they just can't get the timber.
  2. Here we have another red herring funded by foreign investment. Apparently they have yet to get it run a full cycle of 28 days without breakdown. We just haven't the sustainable levels of woodfuel in the UK that this scale of consumption demands.
  3. Yes and here it is in all it's glory - NOT ! They have been hauling timber there all this week from 4 1/2 hours on turnaround and returning empty - 9 hrs on the road - work that one out.... It's shamefull ?
  4. Should any one have 8 wheeler and drag loads of Processor size Hardwood roadside - now or coming up, please PM me. Can collect if required. Everything you hear of is going up to Sandwich in Kent and this is going to kill off many independent Firewood suppliers in the South West if it continues. From what I hear, they are chipping everything from sawlogs to quality Hardwood and many of the Hauliers are feeling ashamed to be shifting it. How is everyone else managing sourcing timber - I would be interested to hear ?
  5. Buy kindling and Logs wholesale off Joy or another supplier on here and make a £1 a bag. Put some of the effort they would have spent on the hours of mundane labour splitting on promoting their products and marketing. Maybe a few swedish candles if you have time to do the saw work. Good fortune to the 2 of them, they sound like the sort of lads you would like as children.
  6. If you know anywhere local where we can get these it would be great to know provided it does not affect your supply - the transport kills us! Wrigleys used to be possible but red tape has ended that outlet.
  7. Thanks for that post. The only one that's fast enough is the twin ram 24T Turbo - may come with a hefty price tag. What amazes me it takes the same HP as the Processor. I need to actually find some timber now ! - nothing Hardwood in Devon or Cornwall whatsoever that I know of after asking everyone.
  8. I'll troll through the online catalogue again and look for the table options. I am quite keen on the Posch range and Wilson's have always looked after me with their Processors. The 25t machine is mega fast and with a 14" knife would take some beating.
  9. The ideal of having the capability to handle most of the smaller stands with your gear sounds ideal. Even hand felling a percentage being the larger trees, at least you can stack and forward yourself. Looks like things are progressing favourably. ?
  10. Thanks for all the replies. So it looks like a spend of 3-4 K for a quality PTO + - 16T splitter. Posch doesn't seem to make anything with a table designed for rings - shame as their build quality is top knotch. Looking like the Rytec CV16 or Krpan 18T at the moment.
  11. That's low impact tidyness. The Grand Fir and Spruce ok for sawlogs but don't ever supply to anyone for Firewood. Whitewoods, which as you know includes species of Spruce are cheap to buy and that's where it ends. Whitewoods = low quality, non-dense softwood and any level of moisture and it decays - fast! We are all enjoying your pioneering journey into low impact Forestry management and the really great images. Please keep it up.
  12. Iveco have 2 prop suppliers Dana Spicer or GKN-Birfield. UJ's don't interchange you will need to identify by looking at the prop. There should be a tag somewhere. Good luck as they can be swines to replace if severely corroded.
  13. Is that the - Posch 35T SplitMaster Log Splitter ? Thanks
  14. Agreed - that's why I am letting Interfluid at Gunnislake crunch the numbers for me.
  15. That's what the system of 'Appeal' should address - Put this to the TO 1st. In my experience they are not keen to devote resources in that direction unless they have a reasonable chance of success. Stand your ground - They are in a weak position, as his recommendations are not aligned to good woodland management practice in any shape or form. I wonder what personal experience this TO has in Woodland management ?
  16. That would be a pleasure to thin by 'selective felling' !
  17. Running a larger pump is not an issue from a tractor. I have seen processors, chippers etc. run off old engines but if you factor in the labour content I decided it's far better to have the correct tools for the task and focus on producing the product. As most established suppliers know, it's all about having the stock on the shelf. I would never ever ever wish to say we have not got a product we promote in stock. The only people I turn away are long distance requests - we used to supply those but not anymore, fuel and labour are just too expensive.
  18. 100% agree - Already done that previously - Boron steel, no quite at Hardox spec. but good for the price. Grid up the rings every time. Anything up to 360mm goes through the processor and really large rings get halved then grid cut. Planning to buy the Krpan or Rytek and just fit longer splitting knife and our own higher spec. pto pump. Just disconnect Processor PTO shaft if we only wish to use Splitter alone.
  19. Like the Banks say - we work on zero risk. Where there are significant targets we always use secured offset tag lines, then if the unexpected happens at least the stem will at worst follow the predetermined fall line arc.
  20. That's a kind offer. Actually I found an old 2015 video of yours on youtube and its very clear to see that is a great, pretty swift machine! We have 2 splitters that I think we will sell on, as we get much more oversize roundwood these days as well as our tree surgery arisings. I plan to have a conversation with Interfluid hydraulics at Gunnislake. They have fulfilled some challenging requests from me in the past. The aim is to run the processor and splitter off the same tractor. This means buying a Splitter without the pump and installing a quality live drive cast iron pto pump and additional flow control valve, which allows you to regulate oil flow rate to the splitter regardless of engine revs. Oil temperature is the main consideration and this has to be managed, starting at the design and component selection stage. Looking for a large step up in efficiency, which is 100% achievable.
  21. Ah thanks. You had an 13t Thor and now have the Krpan 18T ?
  22. That's a quality machine without doubt. Any idea of the 13t Price - couldn't find an indication online ?
  23. Been waiting since March - he had some bean sticks few weeks back - said Nov 2018 soonest now ! MD has nothing whatsoever either and he shifts a lot of timber. Neither have the usual bigger suspects. The mills have lowered their spec. so some of what we may have had is going their way now. All fairly depressing ?
