  1. Have you been experiencing an 'availability' shortage of Hardwood / Softwood roundwood in the South West after the prolonged wet weather? Anyone know of any independent cutters in Devon and Cornwall who may have timber available roadside? Any posts much appreciated.
  2. Their package sounds ideal then - as comes with lo-pro bar and chain, Thanks
  3. Agreed - Panther 42 looks like the best option by far - however comes with different bar and chain than you suggested.
  4. The spec. plate on the chassis gives bare trailer weight and 1 3/4m3 processed hardwood 10" weighs 1 tonne approx. So go and measure the trailer capacity dimensions and do the maths.
  5. Looking to buy a mill to suit my Stihl 660. Already have 30 and 36" Stihl bar with the saw. I would welcome any advice on which is the very best mill to buy, which attachments and what chain is best. Not forgetting where to buy. Thanks in anticipation.
  6. We all need to be thinking ZERO WASTE and doing something about it ! Processor screener arisings and used envelopes or paper/cardboard food packaging.
  7. I am sure a Firewood processor on here will run those off for you as most processors will cut up to 500mm long to give you some extra length to bury. S. Chestnut or Oak best.
  8. Depending on who you know, the spec., how much you buy and how swiftly you pay £ 28 - 34 / Tonne.
  9. What MS and Stubby said. WBP used to be Birch ply years ago - what they sell in 90% of places now is absolute rubbish. Marine ply is specific species hardwood bonded with top end waterproof adhesive, nothing to do with seawater. Phenoloic ply is the best there is. Get what you pay for and I prefer to do the job properly once, as labour is not free even if it's yourself. Good luck.
  10. 4.8 /hr or 2.2 probably on your own then Ash. Is that splitting into IBC's? Now I've changed the blade I can get that myself, but someone else it drops to less than 2 per hour. Of course this does not account for the oversize that has to be ringed up, moved then split. When you try an 8 hour working day with 2 people were pushed to get more than average 24 when you factor in the re-split and housekeeping. A lot of hardwood is down to 4" dia. and also lots is bent.
  11. TCD's your man for this J, especially as he is well versed in the firewood element.
  12. Nah - I leave that to the townies to worry about - we have our own regulations in the South.
  13. If you feel like doing that at the end of the day you're not working hard enough.
  14. It would be really usefull to have a customer database with a Search facility to store customer's details. There are some free ones around but i'm not sure how good they are. Can anyone recommend a suitable package - Free or otherwise?
  15. As has been said - the training is fantastic - doing the surveying and processing the data is boring.
  16. I was thinking 5K with the vat, so not far out. Hopefully VOSA wont know its full of chip - well overloaded !
  17. £120 if its a perfect consistent product. Disregard what others are charging. A proportion of people are generally happy to pay more for a quality product. Some say the price you can sell for is price driven. If you want all the customers there are, you need to be selling at the lowest local price. I prefer to have the top 1/3rd of the market and the sort of customers that attracts. There are fixed costs in producing Firewood and the margins are slim. For example : If you can sell for an additional £5, that could equate to a 20% increase in your margin.
  18. What ball park figure would you consider for a tipper conversion for a Ford Ranger?
  19. OK Ash - thanks for the honest reply. Snowing here !
