  1. i am in the same situation, and did a search on here and someone recommended Joist. It seems OK, it is free.. To be honest I have done a few quotes with it and gone back to using word..
  2. I don't think it is semantics, the procedure may be the same in that you use the planning portal, but the outcome is different.. Clients have had letters from TO's saying things like, "they can't fell but can reduce" and even "we have not had time to make a decision you can complain etc etc..." The tree is NOT TPO'd, so it's nonsense... A 211 is a notification.. Give them 6 weeks if the TO does not TPO then crack on... You don't need permission if they have not replied, crack on..
  3. NO! You do NOT need permission but you do need to give a 211 notice... The number of TO's who tell folk they need permission, even sending letters giving them permission:biggrin: to do this or that... It winds me up ..
  4. You do NOT need permission but you DO need to notify the council with a 211 notice if it is above the 75mm DBH Exceptions relating to section 211 notices | Planning Practice Guidance

Cost would NOT be an issue, if we all had to do it, we would just pass that on to the customer... As billy said, it is a 12 week inspection, not a bad thing and ensures your truck is in good condition.. We to run 3.5 ton trucks and normally send multiple trucks to big jobs..

We have been having this discussion on this forum for over 10 years. 3.5 ton trucks are not suitable for (most) tree work. (I have 4 including the LR and a 6 toner). But still most outfits run them and it is rare for people to get done. If the police/VOSA were more proactive we would all have to use 6 ton trucks. I am not sure that wouldn't be a bad thing. They are more suitable, and you wouldn't have this bizarre system we have at the moment where trucks are made that shouldn't legally be used. The o licence is not a major effort.. Getting a C1+E licence does not look that difficult and if everyone needed one it would become the norm. What would be a worse offence driving overloaded or not having an operators licence? I know which is more dangerous..

Interesting what you say about auto gearbox as we have 2 older 3.5 ton Ivecos, the crewcab does not like towing our 2.2ton chipper and has gone though a couple of clutches.. I think you might be surprised what your legal payload isn't..
  9. Yes it is Amber Valley. I could post it, but it's just another thing to do. I am probably doing 2 or 3 TPO/conservation area notices a week, most are pointless wastes of time anyway as I will normally specifying works the TO will agree with. In this case the TO has been out onsite and told the client what he should apply to do... I have also been getting the completion certificates.... Which I also forget to send.
  10. Who is responsible for putting up the notices? I have done hundreds and never been asked to put up a notice. I had a laminated sheet sent to me today and was told to display in a prominent position at the site.. This particular site is miles away but even if it was local the last thing i need is extra faff for TPO'd trees.. When I informed the TO they have said it is normal practice for the contractor to erect the signs.. So is it?
  11. We recently got the job of clearing up a site travellers had moved onto for a couple of weeks. 16 loads of mixed waste in an 8 wheel grab lorry plus we chipped 10 loads of tree waste. All paid for by the local tax payers... The amount of work they got was pretty remarkable...
  12. Having watched your video's I going to keep sending them to you to do...
  13. Any one know what these are called? I have found hex pin or torx pin? but not a "tri pin?"
  14. Our 6.5 ton iveco has been a great truck not comparable to the 3.5 tonners. I am looking at putting the young lads though the C1+E training as it is way more suited to tree work then the 3.5 tonners. We made an offer on a 6 ton 4x4 canter that looked like a nice truck, but alas someone else brought it..

  16. IMO yes. But in my experience No. Slightly different, but I had a case where we felled some trees that were TPO'd. The AIA had gone into to the council as part of a planning app recommending that the trees were dangerous and needed to be felled. The councils TO agreed with the findings in the AIA. The consultant told me it was OK to fell the trees, the client told me it was OK and I saw the report from the TO saying they agreed they were dangerous and should come out. Planning permission was refused for other then tree reasons.. I should have checked.... but didn't get round to it, had seen the TO's report so assumed everything was in order... It wasn't and the job was stopped we were read our rights and they spent many a week threatening prosecution etc.. The consultant viewed his report as a notice to fell under dead dying and dangerous, (it did say the trees were dangerous and should be felled) the council did not think we had followed procedures, (which we hadn't).... I can see both sides of the argument but the stress caused the contractor (me) and the client was considerable... Plus the cost of the delayed works etc... Just send in another 211 notice is my advice..
  17. We hired a finger bar cutter on a tractor once.. We have never done again... It might work on neat hedges with perfect access but didn't work for us..
  18. We have an older one with a wide cab and big box and tail lift on the back. If you were off the legal highway you could fill it with chip and it would still happily pull our 2.2 ton chipper.. Turning circle is amazing.. A much better 3.5 tonner then the Iveco's and Transits IMO. Picture is of it after we had it wrapped but before the sign writing..
  19. Lead by example.. You are paid to do your job do it to the best of your ability and hopefully shame the lazy into working.. Chances are the boss will know the score. If it continues after a few months then tell the boss... Unless you are working for me and then tell me right away... (I don't think you are though...)
  20. I have a client with a mature copper beech, it has not done well this year and has a thin crown and dieback throughout. There have been no changes to the ground conditions which consist of a gravel drive lawn area. The TO has recommended mycorrhizal inoculation. Having only ever read about it wondering if anyone had had any success. If so can you make some recommendations.. The client wants to do the best for the tree but do not want to break the bank..
  21. 2 abreast is allowed in the highway code and is MUCH safer... UK Road Cycling Laws and Rules Explained: Cycling Two Abreast
  22. Work load is continuing to increase.. Looking to recruit climber, but also would be interested in someone wanting to get into the consultancy side as potential work could include undertaking tree condition and 5837 surveys. I am only interested in people with at least basic tickets I am afraid..
  23. That is what I thought, but hoped that if you had BE and C1 you would get C1E 107.. At the moment I end up putting guys though the trailer test which is BE, the next step is C1 but that won't be much use as they will be able to drive the bigger truck but not tow the chipper..? It might make sense to skip the BE and just do the C1E..?
  24. I thought this was the case, but could not find it written anyplace.. I was hoping you might get the 107 clause so be limited to 8250 as that is acceptable.. I have seen the C1 for £1150 including theory and medical. It is also only a 2 day course.. When you are paying employees to do training costs soon spiral if they are out of work for any length of time..
  25. If you have a B1 plus E (3.5 ton tow 3.5) and then do a C1 (7.5) do you get C1 (7.5)+E or the C1 E with 107(max MAM 8.25)? or are you restricted to a 750kg trailer if driving a truck over 3.5tons unless you do a C1+E test? I have tried looking though other threads but they are full of other discussion and did not find an answer..
