  1. The other option would be the South island New Zealand... They speak English, you can get a Working Holiday Visa.. have similar training requirements to the UK etc.. I did it 15 years ago and still regret returning...
  2. A sunday in the near future.... Dependant on Crane, Tractor, Staff, Mothers day, Easter, etc, etc... looking like the 2nd of April.
  3. Its a very experienced crane operator, and they have been to site.
  4. Appreciate the advice guys, is no one willing to do an easy sunday on the ground...? We are in the middle of the country not that far from anywhere? Good day rate..
  5. Each hedge is 32m long.. It becomes expensive.. But I think my initial view seems to be the view of the majority..
  6. It's my duty of care... When it was me climbing I did not have to worry in the same way... Adam the climber is good and keen to use cranes, he loves big technical takedowns, far more then I ever did as a climber... But you guys who use cranes rave about them so if they are half as good as some of you suggest I will start using them more. This is a pretty straight forward tree we could do without but good to practice on..
  7. I have a job to take out a big dead elm, and we are going to use a crane. I have only used cranes a couple of times and my climber has never used them. He is good and very keen and has been asking me to get a crane in for a while. If possible I would like an experienced person onsite to offer advice and tuition. It will be on a sunday in the near future. If you are interested let me know. [email protected]
  8. In this instance they do "need" the hedge as they are buying the strip of land containing the hedge on the condition that the hedge is moved/replaced like for like... I agree it is a waste of money and a waiting for a smaller hedge to establish is a far better plan but if instant hedging is what is needed for the deal to go though, and they are willing to pay the price I am willing to find the best solution...
  9. Always.. The fell grind and replacement is looking at around the £10K mark. That is quite allot of digger work...
  10. IMO the houses should not have been built so close to the trees, but they have and the garden is basically tree. The issue of the birds is a real one, the small patio area beneath is pretty grim. I think bird spikes could work as if placed on particular horizontal branches the birds would sit elsewhere and have a different target.. But interested in the most suitable attachment method. They could be screwed on.. Would you need TPO approval..? Or cable tied, possible constriction issues?
  11. I have a client who wants to move two 32m long leylandii hedges about 2m. My initial response was to fell and replant, but they need the replanted hedges to be instant... The cost of instant hedging is not cheap so I thought it might be possible to move the current ones and still come in cheaper them the fell and replant.. Has anyone done any thing similar? they basically want to move the hedges closer to the drive..
  12. I have a client with a large TPO'd pine tree that covers their small garden. They have a problem with birds and I thought a few bird spikes might help.. Has anyone installed them? How did you do it? Did it work?
  13. Canopy Tree Services - Arb Association Approved Contractor are looking for a qualified and experienced climber to join our team on a Full-time, Part-time or Freelance basis.. Rates/wages dependant on experience. Based out of Draycott, DE72 3NX. Email: [email protected]
  14. I signed up for the HCC course 10 years ago and it was a waste of money.. It might have changed, it might now be fantastic, but I would look into it.
  15. Came across this today.. Should it be in the overloaded thread...
  16. If you ate less pies you would be under the 140kg...
  17. I spent the best part of a year in Christchurch and in particular Sumner. It was before the earthquakes, but still regret leaving. Things may have changed since but it is a fantastic location.. Weather similar to the UK, but drier.. You can be on the beech in the morning and in proper mountains in the afternoon..
  18. We could do mixed loads of arb arisings. I am away at the moment. But can get a price to deliver when I return. Ben
  19. The AA Arborists Working Group (Tommy Plummer did most of it) did some drawings for arbs a few years back. I think they were on the website for a while, but looks like you need a password that I can't remember. Arborists HandSigs updated apr12.doc
  20. I am shocked at the number of you who would do a straight fell onto a road.. It hadn't even crossed my mind
  21. It's bigger then it looks... It would probably take 2 days lowering it. Might give the crane a go as adam really wants to use one... See if we can do it in a day and use it as a training exercise..
  22. That would be quickest and safest.. Shut road, gobs back cut, tidy up... I hadn't even considered that...
  23. The pic is from google 2015, DED killed it between then and now.
  24. We have a big dead elm to take down, how would you do it and why? Experienced climber who enjoys tricky take-downs but never used a crane before. We have GRCS, 10 inch chippers and loader tractor to take away logs easily..
