  1. Looks like interesting work, wouldn't mind a few weeks a year doing that. Gets a bit depressing removing trees all the time, and putting SFA back.
  2. Great pics, what did you guys use to pull that spar over?
  3. Thats very true, but the first few TCCs in Scotland were mainly attented by Scottish or Scottish based climbers. Its a mystery to me why more Scottish climbers never competed in the last TCCs, particularly Perth(twice) and Edinburgh. I just dont get it. There are hundreds of great climbers working in Scotland. Something has gone wrong somewhere. Maybe it should be a lesson to everyone else as to how things like that can fall apart. Or maybe Scottish climbers dont see the value in the TCCs, which is disappointing as its a great place for novice climbers to see expert climbers in full flow and learn a few techniques.
  4. Every TCC I went to in Scotland was warm and sunny.
  5. Where's SHUGBOROUGH? anywhere near Brigadoon? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brigadoon
  6. Disappointing to see there is no Scottish Open for the second year running. I guess these things are transient, depends on whose around and whose available right?
  7. I'm a loler inspector and I inspect my own gear. The main reason I attended the course was so that I wouldn't have to pay someone else to do a thorough examination of my climbing and rigging gear. Its also a great course for anyone interested in understanding in more detail how your equipment works and when your equipment has become unsafe.
  8. Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated. Got barbells, been using the grip machine now for 1 week, can feel a difference already in grip strength, particularly when climbing, advancing up the rope etc. Thanks again for the responses.
  9. Its ok, I've worked in Derbyshire, I understand.
  10. Your wifes other half? Isn't that you? why r u referring to yourself in the 3rd person? Musta been a bad accident afterall.
  11. Our weather would make it nigh on impossible for drive in theaters to work in the UK. They do seem like a cool idea if you can hear the sound alright. Would have to be a gigantic screen though. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4332896.stm
  12. I've met a few climbers who couldn't tie a Prussik loop despite using them as their main friction hitch. If I was interviewing one such person for a job I would quickly score them off the list of potential candidates.

I wouldn't call them 'feral scum' as the tabloids do. Calling a certain group of people 'feral scum' is not going to solve the problems in UK and US culture. Capitalism is to blame as it forces people to move around in search of jobs, thereby breaking up communities and de-valuing the importance of knowing and respecting your neighbour. Money becomes the main driving force in culture, when the main driving force should be to respect other people. The Conservatives who advocated unrestricted free market capitalism in the 80s never foresaw the cultural problems their policies would give birth to. While a huge number of the population grew wealthy many broken communites were left behind. We are now seeing the effects of British short term policies with the culture of anti-social behaviour and a blatant disregard for other people's dignity. The only way we can move forward and hold back the rising tide of violence is to provide better education to children and instill the basic Christian ethos which Britain has sadly forgotten. I guarantee your grandmothers and grandfathers were more religious or spiritually minded than you are today. These days we have replaced God with worthless celebrities and a 36 inch plasma screen.

Guns are designed specifically for killing things, a vehicle may accidently kill someone but it is not designed to be a killing machine the same logic applies to vending foodstuffs to the public and flying an aircraft. The same logic applies to knives, knives have a 1000 other uses other than killing things so to ban them would be pointless. However I would ban the sale of large hunting knives in the UK as they are sold primarily to rambozo dunces who like killing living things for no other reason than it makes them feel powerful for a split second before they return to their permanent macho insecurities.
  15. A Lime you say....good tree for removing, nice and light wood, good hinge holding capabilities. I always feel safe in Limes unless I'm up 90ft and its raining and blowing a howling gale then I is scared.

    Pecontools!

Wild guess, but the outriggers arent fully extended as they were working in a narrow lane. The guy in the bucket tried to lift a cut section off with his hands to throw down and as the boom was already stretched to the max the extra weight of the section of timber caused the Spider lift to reach tipping point and tip over it did!! Failing that, they tried to use it as a mini crane.

Its easy to label another human being 'feral scum', but what are you, Dagmar and Ed actually going to do to try and make a difference? by using terminology such as this its you guys who have followed the path of least resistance, its people like you who have given up and just accepted things for what they have become, not for what they could be. My reason for banning airguns is simple - as long as there are people who will use them for violence then they should be banned.
  18. Nice video, re big wide deep notch- if the top is leaning back I'm more likely to make a small narrow closed notch so I can leave as large a hinge as possible to play with. This allows for the hinge to be nibbled away in relatively small increments as the pull rope is bringing it over. Also closed notch for same reason as steve stated. If it was a Beech then I would've been scared too as Beech are notoriously hard and brittle.
  19. Do you have any links to these accidents on the web? Newspaper stories?

feral scum? really? is that your answer to complex social issues? calling people feral scum throws us back about 200 years and is detrimental to any notion of achieving a civil society. By calling people feral scum you have shown that you have given up. To you there are two types of people - feral scum and normal people, right? The Morlocks and the Eloy, right? If thats how you see our society then your opinions are invalid in my opinion.
  21. This thread is pointless....sorry.
