  1. Anyone heard the rumour that Leylandii releases a theromone when you work on it which causes depression in humans? This is not a joke thread, I honestly heard it from a reliable source. Cuprocyparis leylandii or Leyland Cypress does actually cause depression. If it turns out to be true I wont be the slightest bit surprised. I get very depressed when working on or in Leylandiis, they have this really depressing smell that reminds me of the lead pencils from primary school. Anyone else get depressed working on leylandii?
  2. Oh yeah, I forgot to ask....who took the photo and what were they doing in the tree during a removal?? if it was a removal?
  3. Gets my vote for the coolest photo of the year!!! Steve, whats up with the extra long pleated tail on the Blakes!!!??? Trying to make some kind of arb fashion statement?? Nevertheless, that photo rocks!!!

    The Talk....

Yes, and it reminds me of just how pathetic it is to spend hours surfing a arb forum. I'm going to quit soon. You only have one life, hiding away from the world on the internet is stealing your life away from you. Time isn't money, Time IS life....use it wisely.
  7. Avoid anything that makes you sound xenophobic, 'the online home of UK arborists' Arbtalk is fine by itself. People will get to know the name anyway.
  8. Most associations/clubs are like this. Grown men discussing stuff and debating then after what seems like far too long coming to a decision which is totally irrelevent to the practising arborist in the industry. Bit like forums
  9. Quercus cerris???!! I think maybe?
  10. LANTRA Professional Tree Inspection Certificate - Somewhere near the Tree Survey/Report requirements of the AA Tech.
  11. Can't wait to see the prototypes, the japanese are great at taking Western ideas and refining and making them more efficient. Its a weird world
  12. Jensens are good, but a 16 inch capacity BrushBandit is a proper chipper.
  13. I have the ISA cert arb and RFS Cert in Arb. The ISA is a good award to have, you have to stay up to date with industry standards and development...its a great starting point and contrary to popular opinion it is not that easy to pass. I attempted the AA Tech Cert, got 44% in the exam. This is a big step up from ISA and RFS and needs real concentrated study. If you pass the exam you move onto the next round of verbal questioning by examiners etc. I'll attempt it again when I have more time to study. The Professional Diploma is extremely difficult to attain. Maybe in the future. I recently got the LANTRA Professional Tree Inspection Certificate which is a good Cert to have for doing surveys. Do you have good practical skills in climbing and are you a grafter? Most employers look for trustworthy, sensible, hard working staff, if you got these and a good basic knowledge of tree biology you'll be a great addition to any company. Oh and a driving licence.
  14. Hi all, I was sent here by someone at Treebuzz, they told me there was a new UK specific arb forum. All the best, and hope it turns out to be as good...if not better than Treebuzz.
