  1. I have been using an Oregon skip chain on the mill and today swapped it out for a stihl ripping chain, what a difference!! What chains have what characteristics in the world of chainsaw milling...my only doubt with the stihl was maybe it was a little rougher on finish but was nearly twice the speed! Are there any faster chains out there?
  2. Lifting those slabs without a jcb would of been fun!
  3. They are alright in the woods I’ve worked along side one in our 6400 a few years back and he could go in the same gaps with better traction but then my rear tyres where bald and his new ! We use a n101 along side the valmet 6400 now and the 101 is slightly less manoverable , I would say you can’t get a better tractor than the 6400 as long as it’s wearing decent tyres ! One thing to think about j is you could by a decent guarded valmet and 9 tonne timber trailer for about a third the price as a newish Valtra , they are cheaper to work on and parts are pretty easy to get hold of.
  4. 36” bar on the 395 one sprocket in 11 months , I ran that on a 36”Oregon for 8 years on the original sprocket. 15” on a 560 on its third sprocket .. actually it’s in the bin now. 12” on a 540 ... this shattered the sprocket the quickest ... in three weeks.
  5. Surely the same goes for drt ? Apart from that i would be really pissed off if I had to do a unit to climb SRT ... I did my last Ariel saw refreshers SRT and I doubt the assessor knew a clue about the system I was using...
  6. True that Mick , I do try and ask spud not to completely gut the mufflers on saws ...
  7. Had a 560 with pop up piston ,port and other mods , saw was pretty mad ... never ran bigger than a 15” bar on it but it would drop through wood. Got a 395 with Port and timing mods spud did years back and it’s still going and will out cut a 880 with 36” bar.. Last saw he had was a 576 which he took the auto tune off and woods ported, it isn’t stupidly loud but works well and the saw is definitely one I would miss and I hated the thing before ! The echo 2511 is about on par with an exhaust modded 150 anyway, you need a basic exhaust mod on a 150 to make it a usable saw imo but either fully modded would be a good choice , I’m thinking of sending a 2511 off as it’s a cracking saw ,especially with the stihl bar and chain.
  8. I’ve been back on Oregon bars for my 560’s and 50’s ..Oregon Versa cuts light are a better balance for cutting all day , the Sugis are fine for Arb work where you probably would not notice the difference and they may last a life time but if I had two 560’s one with a sugi and the other a normal Oregon I would be picking the Oregon up at the end of the day just because it felt lighter and more in control when fatigued. I did try a few dirt cheap £15 bars that are cheaper than a sugi sprocket when I was on multiple windblow on a steep bank as it wasn’t usual to have a stump or log role and crush a bar... I’ll give it to the sugi that it took a lot to bend one!
  9. I’ve stopped buying Sugi , too heavy ,even the sugi lights are not light !! too hard a metal to the point it’s brittle .. I’ve replaced one bar tip three times now and any I have left in service have been done atleast once.
  10. I have some log picks and a 7lb axe in the cab within grabbing distance for such an occasion...
  11. Aye , blew the cobwebs out.
  12. Aye sorry mate it is and I’m not Proud ..probably should go back to my non engagement with vesp rule and wind my neck in ...too much shit going on to get wound up easily and baited like.
  13. Any way it obviously works , would I buy one probably not ...on the weight alone unless your in a bucket it looks a pita to set up in the tree and use from a harness. It does looks smooth but then that’s probably more down to the guy using it.
  14. You don’t have to remind me of anything ,you are a clueless c&£t that much is clear and I could not give a fuck about your opinion. Just so that’s clear also. If you want to know I will explain ,in the U.K. as a contractor within certain frame works we are required by our insurance companies to have our gear lolered , well you won’t because I doubt you have any insurance for tree work , but if my loler inspector say Pete Mctree saw I had a bit of Yale XTC as a light rigging line I can imagine he would be upset. I would use my old climbing lines at that most as a tag line..
  15. That was the farma crane they put on the Botex 8 t? I think they now put a similar size farmi on instead ... they will move your 2.5m length but really struggle on bigger timber and why we chose the 360, also poor out reach.
  16. Good point , I doubt half the full loads on ours are over 4t. Is the bed on the farma extending ?
  17. Aye 4 meters , you could... I would not run with it on the road though unless I had 4 ratchet straps to secure two for each bay as there would be little over hang ... and it always worries me with two bays full as you can’t see the back bay driving.
  18. Is that Yale xtc as a rigging line?
  19. Aye it’s a good trailer but the 360 can be lacking . I’ve moved well dragged some big bits with it , would Definitely like an upgrade but Wilson’s told me a 560 won’t go on that trailer... roof mount could be an option be again in thinning stands I’m not sure if a roof mount would be a hinderance more than benefit, as a forestry crane also it lacks some finesse. Basically though it does what we need it for .. that’s fresh beech in the second pic and it didn’t struggle to much with any of it maybe another foot bigger at 4 it would need dragging on.
  20. If your looking at Wilson’s I take it it’s the Botex ? 8 tonne Botex with a 360 crane is ok ,the crane will Lift about a tonne close in and has a steering drawbar and braked ,the 560 crane is usually on a bigger trailer but the crane is a lot more powerful. I’ve not had much bother with the 360 but big need cutting down to 2.5 or 2m or drag them on at 4 m and take off the bolsters , ... the bunk is 4m long. If your doing thinning work I would go for the 360 as it’s good in tighter spaces, if not and it’s more Arb work or big hard woods and softwoods the 560 would be a better choice
  21. I don’t know you but you must be fuckin mint hey, 1 in 500 ..... I have not read any words from joe saying your wife is a whore,he was having some non liberal snowflake banter and that’s how you deciphered It ,if you can’t take it don’t dish it out.
  22. I’ll tell you how I see it vesp, I was following this thread with some interest, ever since I was a kid and just got in too tree work I’ve seen many 40 year olds from many different back grounds have some kind of mid life crisis buy a big landy or jap 4x4 spend a load of money on kit and do a few nptcs .... start this is as some kind of fantasy dream job at the max I give this guy 3 years before he decides he has wasted his time and money ,usually it’s one winter before you hear the “ yeah I had an old injury and I just could not climb any more” ... when they could not climb in the first place but go around telling all there mates and customers they are some expert wonder tree guy ... or they they genuinely have an accident... let’s say free climbing or one handing cut and holding because they are pissed off and frustrated as the OP has already made a point of saying he has done some.... Before he insulted rich rule, who really is top of his game , I have worked and climbed with him and would happily any day of the week again , I think most of us would of gone out of the way to help him with our experiences of kit and techniques maybe even go on a rec climber show him some or even sub for him as was pointed out at the start of thread , this is a good way of seeing how things should be done ... surely any one who is so amazing and practical minded knows this.... This has all for me has gone out the window as I doubt any one worth there salt as a climber would work for an opinionated egotistical know it all like your self or friend here.

It’s a tank vent , pretty sure it sits just like that! Mine had the later black style pepper pot vent so could be wrong.
