  1. Looked like a great job Tim. Nice vid too - thanks.
  2. Wow, what a great vid. Those are the real men! Does anyone know what the deal is with the blasting?
  3. This pub down the road has a camping field which could work:The Daneway Inn ...and beer on tap which is always handy!
  4. After missing all the high jinks at Capel I hope to make this one. Shame about the caming - would much prefer to camp than use a hotel. Looking forward to it!
  5. Something to do with pedal revolutions a minute I think.
  6. Cool. You woulda thought they would spell his name correctly on the flyer though?!
  7. You have probably seen this, but Camden are after a TO: Tree Officer job - London - Horticulture Week
  8. Sweet - readily available oak firewood round the corner....sorry kids!
  9. For south glos council?
  10. Blimey!! Where was that Alex? Looks like a fun day.
  11. I think I must understand the phrase "self-tend" differently from you then. I understood self-tending to be when the climbing line slips down through your hitch as you climb the tree i.e. you can be simply climbing without any hands on the rope (just using both arms on branches etc) and the rope will glide through the hitch. Then when you stop and sit back it grips. I can see how a blake's and a pulley makes one handed slack-tendering possible, but not self tending. Am I confused?
  12. Got a picture? I can't see how it can self tend.
  13. Couldn't agree more about the night dive -that is too amazing! It was the first dive on my advanced course and I was a bit nervous...when you are on the surface looking down the water looks pretty scary and black. Once we were in though it was the most relaxing dive I have ever done - used much less gas than normal! After a while we killed the torches, accustomed our eyes to the low light and then enjoyed the crazy phosphorence. Stunning.
  14. :laugh1: I dip twix bars in my coffee? Not going to help get rid of the bingo wings though.
  15. Just to be clear Tony, do you want a picture of miner damage or the actual critter?!
  16. If it weren't for the 5 hour drive I would be there; my day has been called off tomorrow :-(
  17. That's one way of keepin' em cool I suppose!
  18. Did some work for a presenter on classic fm the other day. Hardly a celeb but hey, she was nice.
  19. Ha ha - america's full of 'em!
  20. Proper job mr huck!
  21. Do lots of your local companies use subbie climbers? If they do, do you know what they are paying? Price yourself honestly. If you are top notch then companies hopefully won't mind paying you top money. Similarly, if there are tree jobs you wouldn't feel comfortable taking on, don't ask for too much. My tuppence worth.
  22. I often wonder the same thing Dave. Not far from my house there is a fantastic green space called Durdham Downs - great for picnics, football etc. At the moment there is a large funfair on the downs and the designated parking for the hundreds of cars that come and go daily is actually on the downs itslelf all over the rooting area of the trees! They are great mature limes, ash and horse chestnut that form an avenue along the side of the downs and alongside a road. I dread to think what compaction forces are affecting all the roots along the avenue. The local arb officers must have seen all this but the council don't seem to have thought about asking the fair to move the car parking just 10 meters or so away from the trees. Grrrr!
  23. When deadwooding in a location where appearance is less important I often snap or kick off deadwood instead of using the saw for a target pruning cut. I figure that (as has already been said) the tree has more or less compartmentalised itself in that area and is preparing (eventually) to shed the dead limb. By applying a bit of force the dead limb will fracture at it's weakest point which is likely to be the natural place of abscission. Makes sense to me but I am no authority on such things! In formal locations I will tend to leave target pruning cuts though.
  24. MT-03. I can't say I know alot about bikes but I like the look of this kind of bike. Your husky supermoto looks like a whole lot of fun. Damn, I need to get my license...
