  1. For anyone that does pre-development tree surveys, you will be interested to see the new draft BS5837. You can view it here: Log in - DRS You will need to register with BSI to make comments. Don't be shy, have your say now!
  2. ...and the right plants to suit the character of the area.
  3. Forget native. Pick the right plant for the soil and the one that will deliver the benefits the customer wants...wildlife/dense screen/evergeen/quick growing or whatever.
  4. Try using CAVAT. Here is a link to a user guide which is pretty simple to follow: Downloads | Capital Asset Value for Amenity Trees (CAVAT)
  5. I have to agree with you Ben. Your colour plan shows the trees very well. Weird.
  6. So, any Arbtalkers going to be at this event tomorrow/Thursday?
  7. Stick to your price. Perhaps next time he won't bother looking around.
  8. Oh yes! Timber theft is a serious issue, and very common in South Wales where you are.
  9. Had a fiver on arbor supreme too. Doh!
  10. Yes I expect so. Glad it doesn't affect me but I feel sorry for those planning to enrol in a course soon.
  11. Just checked the UCLAN website. The £9000 per year is for full time students only...no info if you are part time.
  12. Crumbs, I wonder where that leaves me. I am one year in to a 3 year programme!
  13. Happy days! Congratulations Mark.
  14. Hi Andy, Where are you based and how far do you travel?
  15. Just booked for the workshop on April 6th in Leicester. See you there Paul.
  16. Gosh darnit you slippery reference hooligan.
  17. Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981
  18. Would certainly like to. The subject is just what I am interested in.
  19. The pictures tell a great story about a lad getting a great start in arboriculture. He has obviously had a really varied apprenticeship and some top-notch mentoring from our very own Monkey-D. .
  20. I saw that too - was quite interesting wasn't it? It made me wonder how much of a veteran tree's hollow stem is down to fungal attack and how much is down to the constant munching of insects; there was a lot of noise coming from those hungry critters!
  21. No Tony I don't. This thread just reminded me (and tommer obviously) of another thread a while ago where there were a lot of comments about protestors being bunny huggers etc...and lots of gung-ho tree surgeons showing off about felling trees in front of protestors. For my tuppence worth, I do think we need to seriously upgrade our railway system and move away from constant widening of the motorway network. Our railway network is pitiful compared to many European countries. This will inevitably mean sacrificing pockets of the current 'natural' environment. I don't know alot about the specifics of HS2 but it would be good to see the consultation resulting in the avoidance of blasting straight through ancient woodland sites.
  22. The responses in this thread are an embarrassment to Arbtalk. If you want to apply for the job, then apply for it. If that means picking up the phone to ring the employer to ask for an email address to send your CV to then do that. Everyone has opinions about companies and other traders - these can be discussed in private. A thread offering jobs is not the place to air grievances. If threads like this put off prospective employers from advertising jobs, all users of the forum lose out.
