I live in a relatively small town now, and at this stage of my life I don't think I would want to go more rural. I have lived in small country villages in Suffolk - they were beautiful and had great pubs but after a couple of years I felt I needed to get back to a bigger town. I always like the idea of a proper rural place to live but I know I am too much of a people person to stick out the isolation.

I don't know very much about ecology, but where I live (Malvern Hills) the conservators are felling alot of native trees on the hillsides. I couldn't work out why so I asked one of them whilst out walking the other day. Apparently the trees cause too much shade for certain ground flora to thrive which in turn attracts certain bird species. Maybe it's the same idea where you are?

Forget native. Pick the right plant for the soil and the one that will deliver the benefits the customer wants...wildlife/dense screen/evergeen/quick growing or whatever.

Yes I expect so. Glad it doesn't affect me but I feel sorry for those planning to enrol in a course soon.

Just checked the UCLAN website. The £9000 per year is for full time students only...no info if you are part time.

The pictures tell a great story about a lad getting a great start in arboriculture. He has obviously had a really varied apprenticeship and some top-notch mentoring from our very own Monkey-D. .
