Maybe you haven't even heard of the scheme, or have heard a little bit about it but think it's not for you. Whatever the case, the AA would like to hear from you so the scheme can be as attractive and beneficial to all as possible. Clarkson's well known for overblown statements for comedic effect. It was probably a silly thing to say on a prime-time programme like the One show. BUT the reaction today has been ridiculous! Why can't people understand the concept of dark humour or context? If everyone knows he's a bit of a goon and says things for effect why worry that people would take him literally?!

My mate at work showed me a video on his friend took while paragliding abroad - a vulture swooped in and got trapped in his lines so he had to open a reserve and make a quick landing through some trees. Madness!

Only done a tandem jump before. Chap at work has done lots including the Himalayas. I think he has a friend in Slovenia (maybe Slovakia) that teaches it and is very reasonable for a fun holiday.

I'm doing MSc Arb and Urban Forestry at Myerscough in Preston. It's about 2.5-3 hours each way from where I live. Bristol Uni sounds like an attractive option - what do they do that's arb related? -

Hi Hawk Eye, I am half way through a part-time MSc course. The content is very interesting and stimulating but personally I have found the standard of lecturing and resources to be mixed and generally not as good as when I did my BSc at a larger University. I hope that it will lead to good things though - having an MSc takes you a decent way to becoming chartered which is a personal goal for me. It is a hell of a lot of work though - I have a full time job and a young family so the commitment sometimes feels like a millstone. I am looking forward to finishing! Cheers, Paul -

I think I get what you are saying, but I don't understand the sentence about stubs if working to BS3998:2010. The BS quite clearly states that stubs are not acceptable (see section 7.2.5).

I have used an air-spade to investigate tree roots on trees affected by M.giganteus. I am informed that it degrades the underside of roots first so it is important to excavate right under roots to check. I have heard it recommended that using a fluorence testing machine on the foliage combined with a detailed VTA assessment is the first step before excavations - but I don't have a fluorimeter so I go straight for the air-spade! -

Blimey you're not shy about posting all your University projects up here are you?! Our rough set up is: Office staff: Tier 1: Managing Directors and Sales and Marketing Director Tier 2: Compliance manager Tier 3: Operations and Consultancy Managers Tier 4: Field Officers for project management Tier 5: Administration staff Our field staff are then divided in to 6 responsibility/pay grades - level 6 being team leader/foremen role, level 3/4 being highly qualified arborists and surveyors and down to level 1 which would be apprentices.
