  1. david, if most of your work is currently grass cutting, hedging and small treeworks im not sure what this thread is for, just keep doing what your doing and a business will grow however without experience and some major investment on the equipment front you wont be doing large scale treeworks anytime soon and I hate to break your bubble but banks don't tend to loan large sums of money without a proven track record and even then its not easy these days. A tree business is not going to be handed to you on a plate!!
  2. what job do you do at the moment?
  3. Aptly named the stein tea bag at work Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

  10. Started a hedge removal, 7 trees done today and 5 truck loads of chips. 3 phone lines, power cable, carport, fences and some other obstacles for good measure. Reckon there will be 3 tractor and trailer loads of timber on the last day Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  11. 12mm marlow rigging line is what we use, cheap and fairly durable
  12. I found an old petzl swivel at the yard so using that on my bridge for the moment. ive added a small shackle in the hole that you connect your chest harness to as its slightly easier to clip in and out of
  13. Been using cougar blue with mine on the next size down bollard. Seems to flow nicely and feels strangely like a hitch. Ascent is very quick compared to the wrench Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  14. I've spliced loads of hitch cords, usually about 70cm in length I generally halve the measurements required as each leg of the cord is carrying half the load. Not that I recommend this as it goes against the manufacturers recommendations and would suggest that if you don't really understand what your doing then then best stick with tested tolerances Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  15. arrived this morning from the states, cheers Gordon Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

  20. where in dorset are you? what sort of money did you pay for it? it probably would be better on the roofmount, but I don't want it to tie up the tractor as I would be running and feeding a heizohack chipper at the same time
  21. what diameter timber would a lasco cone splitter mounted on a 3 tonne excavator be capable of splitting down?, would it handle 6ft long, 3 ft diameter lumps of pine? or would a wood cracker be more suitable for the task thanks john
