  1. Poodles are fantastic dogs. Really bright and intelligent, dont shed any hair anywhere, loyal, and great with kids. I have to say, I have a very Gay dog, my big Irish Setter. I also have a total alpha male full on headcase Lurcher that screws, fights, steals and generally hellraises. The gay dog is much easier to take out...
  2. Hey! Where's my thank you? I gave you the proper scientific calculation on KWH usage, AND the forestry commision studies to back up the yields from land. Really though Tony, you need to be talking to Riley Reka http://www.riley-reka.co.uk/ in your area, as they will be able to give you all the information you need, and take you to see hundreds of existing installations.
  3. Yeah, long hard week. Sorry mate, I came across a little bit harsh then. Sure your electrickery might come from renewable sources, but why waste it on heating? Quality pellet is easy enough to source, but I have a lot of contacts, so I suppose its easy for me. The figures I gave for coppice is for oven dried tonnes at 10% MC. With any district heating system its easy to have a drying shed for chip utilising the waste heat from your boiler stack.
  4. Everything.
  5. Jeez, its no wonder were so backward in this country. DOnt know where you get your info from, but on the continent they have had sophisticated woodchip and pellet boilers for 30 years without the issues you mention. Chip is very easily dried in the round, however most district sized boilers will run on chip at 50% moisture content. I could get 1000 tonnes of pellet tomorrow by picking up the technological marvel you might have heard of called a 'telephone'. Solar indeed should be a prerequisite for any heating system, but ground-source heatpumps? absolute non starter. the conversion factor from electricity is very low, and electricity is mostly made by burning fossil fuels, so bit of a non starter if your thinking green.
  6. If the dwelings are built along new super insulated guidelines (which they should be!), and you use a district heating system with a central boiler running on woodchips, then your efficiency starts to improve. SO say each house needs approx 6 kwh - 16 hours a day, 7 months or 210 days per year = 20000kw per annum. Wodchip at 30% moisture content will give over 4000kwh per tonne, so each property will need about 5 tonnes of chip per year. Biomass on short rotation coppice yields from the FC website -http://www.forestry.gov.uk/srcsite/INFD-5L3CDQ I would estimate over a 5 year period that 5 tonnes per hectare is achieveable. Therefore, each property would need a hectare. However, a single tree surgeon would be able to easily provide enough chip for such a scheme.
  7. I've a bad reputation to keep up you know.
  8. That saw looks cool. I'd like to try one. As for top handles not being safe on the ground, how is it 'safe' is it to dangle up a tree on ropes using one, but when on the ground with solid footing, it suddenly becomes 'unsafe'? what a complete load of prime bollocks.
  9. I dont want Steve doing it as he is a pillock in real life. Just kidding steve, love ya really
  10. There's a story behind why we dont work at the village anymore, but its for PM only. Remember this ad? the final bridge was about 500 yards away from our house - [ame]http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=JyfLbGlGr2s[/ame]
  11. Mr Ed

    angry kid

screwing or nailing, its all the same to me.
  12. Very impressive, but a 6x4 with a rear bogie will always get stuck as the non driven axle will stop th eother rear axle gripping.
  13. RIP Patrick Mcgoohan, Be Seeing You... The Girl That Was Death is still my favourite - talk about psycadelic 60's... I grew up about 7 miles away from 'The Village'. We used to do all the treework there, its still an amazing place well worth a visit.

  17. Sorry mate, but given the current economic climate, those qualifications will lead straight to the Dole queue. Seriously, I see loads of freshly qualified's pouring out of Bangor Uni with no hope of getting a job. Its not exactly high on the list of valuable skills in other countries either.
  18. Quote my post, and you'll see the tags I put around blah blah blah
