  1. Nice Reg, great pics. I was next door to Bodnant today, its a wonderfull day out.
  2. Steve turned me into a Newt.
  3. Thats a pretty good deal.
  4. got any details? I only heard it 2nd hand...
  5. Correct me if I'm wrong, But dont Vermeer UK do a great Lease deal on BC1000's?
  6. Can you buy the disks seperately? I have an expensive oregon grinder, but those disks look like they dont overheat the tooth.
  7. The trouble with buying chippers in the states is that unless you buy one near the shipping port, the overland haulage can be extremely expensive. Then add the transatlantic shipping costs, the import duty, the lading costs, and a possible visit out there to view, and the fact that the $ is high against the £ these days... The savings can end up being marginal at best. Thats not to say it cant be done, but if you can source one in europe, you'll have an easier time of it.
  8. Nice. I did exactly the same thing. Watchoo buyin?
  9. Broken it?
  10. Yeah, they gave me a good price on a machine for a week, but the haulage up north was a killer. Raked and burnt with the excavator, just as quick in the end:001_smile:
  11. Thats a good price. Is that from Copards?
  12. Ok, here's some advice. Arboriculture is a luxury service based industry thats heavily overstaffed, with dwindling sources of work and funds, and a surplus of highly experienced operators. If I was in a secure job like a paramedic, the last thing I would want to do is jump into an industry where it will take you a LOT of training and experience to reach a mediocre level. This job is hard, poorly paid, and offers poor long term prospects. I do well because I'm a long established business, but given the choice, I would not go into this industry. If you decide to set up your own business, you will inevitably be taking work from established busineses, and will likely be a danger to yourself and others. I also think as a paramedic, you have the chance to be a very valuable member of society. I take my hat off to you guys, in my humble opinion, you do one of THE most important jobs in existence. I would trade all my training for yours without a second thought.. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but its usually me who has to do the pi$$ing on fires round here:001_rolleyes:
  13. Red oak is nice timber. Never heard of it being called a softwood before.
  14. Sorry, What I was meaning was that many 561's are Fendt powered, so the ahwi should be ok with that Hp - in fact, just checked, and Ahwi have pics of them being powered by similar on their sites. Like you say though, the Jenz (and ahwi) are very hp hungry, without obvious performance benefits.
  15. Not really... A 950 is virtually identical specification to a Jenz 561.
  16. Might have been - it looks like ahwi have virtually copied Jenz with their chipper range. And the ahwi seems to have the same unimpressive performance.
  17. Looks like you can get them here too. PFERD SUPER SAW SHARPENER 5.5MM 7/32 Accessories/Lubricants Find Saw Chain Maintenance Buy UK
  18. This thread reminded me to go and look. The widget I was thinking of is by a company called pferd - Bailey's - Pferd ChainSharp Filing Guide
  19. Never really liked the hiezohack, but of the screened chippers, it does seem to be the best. Matt has more experience of them than me, and he rates them. Out of choice? one of these - Dynamic Manufacturing Corporation - Discover the Cone-Head Advantage!
  20. Just crap I think. I've used a LOT of chippers, and they have to be one of the worst. Chip quality from them is very mediocre, even with a 30mm screen.... If you look on my skylining thread, the chipper in the pics is a 500hp 561 jenz.
  21. The absolute best tool for that I have ever seen, was a file holder that also had a fine flat file built in. That way, every time you sharpened your saw, it touched down the depth gauges. It worked brilliantly. Lost mine, and still looking for a new one
  22. I've done a fair bit with Jenz Chippers now, mostly 560/561's. Usually with the 500hp engine option, and my experience they are A. Extremely well built B. Beautifully finished C. Powerfull But... Absolutely crap at chipping, and a nightmare to work on.
  23. The performance of those Jenz chippers is totally underwhelming. Utter pants for what they cost(in my most humble opinion).
  24. Trying to understand what your asking there Rob?
  25. Got to be a flipin heavy calibre to kill a bear. Magnum slugs in a shotgun would be my choice. Most gunshot wounds will just annoy bears. Best bit of advice I read about gun recomendations for bear, is above all else, remove the foresight. If you do this, it wont hurt as much when the bear shoves it up your Ass
