    todays job

If you look at that piece carefully, you can see its a dead piece thats snapped. Even with the best will in the world, a very dead top can be difficult to get down with zero damage. Although craning the tops out gently would have probably given a 'no damage' result, it takes quite a bit of experiance to do so.
  2. Ahh yes. After I mowed every blade of grass at our place, I put the hedge scythe on and trimmed back all the overgrowth on the drive. Bloody fantastic setup for doing grounds maintainence.
  3. If thats the one I think it is, its got self leveling boom, higher road speed, and oversized pumps on the auxilary hydraulics for running mowers / mulchers. I demoed it for somebody down here, then nipped back to my place and mowed the paddock with the flippin' huge deck mower.

I always wonder at people that get a crane in just to take the stem down. Why not put it to proper use and dismantle the whle crown with it? Most hires are 8 hour minimum, and taking the stem down is usually a 1/2 hour job.
  5. Fantastic stuff. You must be very proud of your daughter.
  6. If contractor A. has a client base, but the occasional need for specialised services, then he is using his discretion to hire in contractor B. to deal with those services. A lot of my business is of his nature, as I have the equipment to clear large volumes quickly. Where the line starts getting blurred, is when Contractor A. starts advertising and marketing those services, when he can only provide them through a subcontractor. He may end up in a conflict of interest with contractor B. if they both tender for the same job...
  7. What spec extras are you looking at Stevie?
  8. Once you get used to it, you should be able to feed the chipper with the loader, save on even more hand work.
  9. That S35 weighs about 1100kgs. Looks like you've entered the promised land shrekie. That looked like a nightmare slog to drag that lot out... You like my grapple?
  10. £3k I got quoted, and thats because the main 11kv line is only 2 poles away...
  11. Probably buy in 3 phase cheaper.
  12. Insect bites UK -
  13. I've not been bitten over here, but I did get a nasty bite from a golden orb spider whilst climbing a big gum in Brisbane. Gave me a bit of a bad day.... As for UK spider bites, Kendal Bioresearch has this to say -
  14. Raging sore throat, feels like the onset of swine flu:ohmy:

  17. Mr Ed

    A bit of fun.

On medium sized pine and hardwoods, I've been known to go through 10 litres of fuel a day. Mind you, you have to crawl off at the end of a day like that!
  18. cheaper to run than a tractor, although getting 3 phase in can be expensive..
  19. Haha, dont ever visit Australia then - that thing is a baby compared to the huntsman spider that gets in your house. Big spider for the UK though! would probably give you a nasty bite.
  20. Neat. One of the things thats put me off the Kask hat is the poxy peltor muffs. I have a nice sordin headset I'm going to do the same to.
  21. Are you getting all righteous again Rupe? A good point though...
  22. Sorry mate, That should have read - There is somebody in cearnarfon supplying them to several of the bigger coal merchants and garages at that price - one of the reasons I've not bothered... But I'm looking at a splitta from fuelwood, so should be able to easily compete. If you have any info PM me, as I'd like to know. I do know that Looms Bros bought 5000 bags of them in one go...
  23. Kindlett, I can buy them trade in Cearnarfon at a £1 each... Dearest I've seen trade is £1.75 Kevy, you dont need a processor to do what you need. Just a chainsaw and splitter. Having said that, why not buy the split firewood in bulk? If you speak to Clark Cunninghams, I'm sure they'd do you a good deal on a big bulk delivery, or Desi Grey in Derry might do the same. Got a few other contacts if you need.
  24. Mr Ed

    A bit of fun.

I do both, Forestry is by far the harder.
  25. Thats pretty good, but I thought Boomeco worked a much smaller radius? At least thats what they told me a while ago... Being based in Woodchester, I guess they must be very close to you?
