  1. Yeh no worries. I often get on my high horse when ever I see feathers cut off. It's not a personal attack to you, it's a very common, and bad practice that has been around for many many years. Unfortunately, due to historic lack of training on larger felling it's somehow managed to achieve an "acceptable" type of status, mainly because people have "seen it done like that before". In almost all cases cutting toes off inline with the hinge, i.e, narrowing the hinge,it reduces the possible effectiveness of the hinge, and in the case of leaning, weighted or rotten stems I'd always go for the widest possible hinge. The old "we didn't have a big enough bar" is not a good enough excuse for cutting toes off either. A better cut or a bigger saw should be used rather than jeopardise hinge integrity.
  2. Why did you cut the most critical part of the hinge off if it was a dangerous fell?
  3. Perhaps those wanting to debate the rights and wrongs of fox hunting ought to discuss it in a topic titled as such. I believed this subject to be a discussion and sharing of pictures of Boxing Day meets. It's not about hunting foxes, that's been banned for years now. Old news. Edit; apologies, hunting foxes isn't banned, it's hunting with dogs that's banned. Just thought I'd clear that up before anyone shot me down!
  4. How much you wanting to pay john? Do you want a good condition one or one needing work? You want a bumper too or on its own?
  5. Here you go john. Cheap as chips; http://www.xxl-sale.co.uk/search/?q=warn%208274&campid=5337249842
  6. Ditto for me!!!! Very, very impressed. I'm liking the felling dog & roller catcher. Wouldn't happen to have any part numbers to hand would you mate?
  7. Never had running problems with mine. That said, it's either having the tits revved out of it, or it's switched off.
  8. Ah, can't stand having kit thrown on the back myself. It's not insured either! I can see the point if filling with a hoziak, but surely you can't fill higher than tailboard with a normal chipper due to needing them open to fill?😜
  9. So, not just on yours grey fella, but what use are barn doors? Never really understood them😳
  10. Looking tidy Chris. Is the xr basically the 4 stroke version of a cr?
  11. Sure is mate. Guess what I was trying to say was a positive for the husky. Seems there was a couple of bad saws early on and obviously they are well and truly discussed. On reading about this, folk might be put off. On the other hand, anyone who tries a 550 or 560 before they buy, seem to be hooked!
  12. It's quite interesting hearing feedback about these saws. One thing I've noticed, anyone who reads feedback then buys, the choice is split. However, those who TRY both first, most buy the husky.
  13. How does it cope on the mini mill? Must be at its limit even for such an epic saw.
  14. Lol! I know what you mean. It's a regular customer and that car has been on the drive without turning a wheel for the last ten years or so I've worked there. It's become a landmark. Customer was especially pleased the tree missed is treasure.
  15. Was a tight one, but slotted in the front garden well.
  16. Cheers for that Eddy, seems there's only 2 sizes really then? That's sorted my dilemma. Curiously though, the 562 is on the bigger mount, yet virtually the same saw? Thanks again Eddy.
  17. While on this subject, can anyone clear up bar figment sizes on these saws? Is the 560 on the "small bar fitment" same as the old husky 36 & 41 of years gone by?
  18. Here's mine. Not the best pic though. I know it's not all that relevant as you're wanting to do a horizontal one, but thought I'd show it anyway as I'm so chuffed with it. Made from a 47kg bottle, bought off eBay. It does get hot if you feed it well and treat it right; .
  19. If it's got no wires on the pads, the oil around the hub won't be causing the light. Whip the wheel off, you'll soon see if the oil is from the caliper though. If it isn't, it's probably either a hub seal or swivel seal. Either way, it'll be fine, it's a land rover. If it's brake fluid, sort it, otherwise put the wheel back on.
  20. Not real sure Jon. I've hammered landies for years and never come across that with mine. Then again, I only do something to mine if something falls off, or it won't drive down the road. That's what they're designed for, right?
  21. Yeh, there's only one light on the dash. Serves for hand brake on, fluid level low, and also pad wear limit if fitted with wired pads. Start with the simple stuff before pulling bits off the thing!
  22. I'd say hold out for a bigger tipper.
