  1. Got air on mine too. No issues and been on near 2 years. Splashed out on the compressor too, loads of flexibility.
  2. Easiest way to imagine it, get two rags and soak one in gummy sap, say from a leylandii or black pine. Soak the other in water. Hang both out to dry and see what they're like in two or three days. Guess I'm saying Tom's right:thumbup1:

  4. Cheers Eddy, if he doesn't pop up on here in a couple of days, I'll drop him a message. I'm thinking of running this thread to show the very basic steps of modding a 365 into what is currently the 372xp, with only the sticker on the side resembling the base saw when finished. For anyone who hasn't a clue what's the reason behind this, just check out the price difference between the 365 and 372xp. From what I've seen from other sources it's very simple, costs virtually nothing and anyone with basic workshop skills could do themselves. Before I start mine and take step by step pictures, I wondered if anyone had already done it, possibly having other little tips to put forward on the basic or other simple mods on this epic old school model. Feel free to add input as it may take me a while to get my stuff together.

I am thinking of selling soon for a longer one if you're interested:001_cool: Rich,,,,,, LOL! I think those days are gone for me! Ben, my usual climber did all of this one, all went smoothly with no incident, and sure kept everyone busy on the floor.

    660 or 880?

    To be honest the tensioner is one of the more common problems with them. It certainly wouldn't put me off the saw though. As for the running problems, that is rare. In fact, I've never heard of it before. I cannot comment on your likelihood of receiving another injury though as I have no idea how big your nuts are😎

    Depending how much milling you do. A good sharp ripping chain on 36" is not a big issue to that saw. It will work hard but not kill it unless you were milling 3 or 4 days a week! Lol! It sounds to me a 880 would not be that suitable for you as a ground saw anyway if you don't do many big trees.

    880 always sounds good to have in the box, but in reality unless you're milling a lot, there's very little in this country a 660 wont handle if set up right. We do a lot of big trees and never needed bigger than a 660, I've a selection of bars and chains running from 20" to3 foot, full comp, ripping and semi skip for hard to reach areas. Immense, flexible, virtually unbreakable saw that you can use every day.
  12. Yeh, but as I understand it, it needs an initial set up. The translation from Swedish in the manual is bad, but as I understand it the saw needs heavy work initially without screaming out of the cut to set it properly. Avoiding such as milling initially for the first few tanks is it running in period, otherwise run as normal. The auto tune does do a minor set up at every start up, but this is more to do with it being a colder start than how it was set when last turned off. It also acclimatises to current weather and temps etc.
  13. Yeh, Just raggin mate. Over the years I've changed favouritism, in the '80s I was all husky. It changed over toward the white ones in the '90s for over 10 years when there probably wasn't much to choose between them as both had some epic models. If I were to pick four epic saws from stihl during the 2000's, I'd say they would be 200t, 260, 361 and 660. Well what happened to them? Ha! Replaced by rubbish! If you now compare the equivalent huskies, 540t, 550, 560 and any of 576, 590 or 595 it seems a no brainer. Hence I'm now with the orange brigade again.
  14. Yeh, but that's a stihl. I've never had to run in a wheel chock before.
  15. One thing I always carry is BBQ lighting fuel, sure gets your fire heat up quickly therefore gets a boil in a couple of minutes.

    Yeh, that won't be a problem. £500 all in. The saws two years old, almost worn out, been battered and brayed. Now sat on the shelf looking for a new home.

  18. One thing worth pointing out though, it's a misconception that wider tyres are better off road. It's actually the opposite in the majority of cases.

  20. If he's anything like me, it's the dash that's the problem not the wheel. I don't class myself as being massively tall, but at 6'2" my knees are against the dash in a truck cab tdci and if I'm honest I'm not safe driving one as it affects how I get to the pedals. At least driving my mates has settled my curiosity as far as updating my td5!
