  1. Amazes me why Ifor have never cottoned on to this! Why are they so happy to sell high sides and refuse to clad them with something smooth is beyond me! All you guys bolting and riveting sheets of this, that, and the other on, simply adding weight are doing Ifors street cred no good what so ever. One of the main reasons I will only buy from a manufacturer that will build to spec, instead of the "you can have what's on the shelf" attitude builder. The pro tipper option is a very good way out for you guys already committed though, sure is the dog's nudgers that!
  2. Yeh, the overhang looks quite bad on that L200 to be honest, possibly worse than on the HiLux. I guess the smaller gardening type set up towing a pencil sharpener would be more suited, but around here those type of guys would not spend that sort of money on a truck. Must be a very limited market.
  3. New caps? On a Stihl? Always makes me chuckle when anyone calls them that! Huck, I cant pass comment on a 461 having never used one, but other than that, Mr Trees has a very valid point. Replacing some of the most popular saws that Stihl had out there say 5 years ago, the 200, 260, 361 and 660 has lost my total faith in them. Combine that with "up their own rear end" attitude, their following is sure dwindling. I'm trying to think of the most recent Stihl purchases I've made. There's only one really, a 150t. Great little thing, but not a patch on the 192 it "sort of" replaced though:thumbdown:. Wouldn't stop me buying another 660 if I could get my hands on one though:blushing: .

  7. I was lucky, I was working for a farmer. With him sat on his 250 horsepower tractor pulling at the tree, he wasn't interested in the understanding of a hinge, let alone how fine the example was. Throttle was all he needed. Is it worthy of a rating in the hinge thread though, it was a hinge after all, just an 18 stone type hinge?
  8. Not too exciting but just thought I'd share. Horrible leaning ash fell with a pull line. Left a big hinge, felled high but went spot on to plan

  10. So how's this part going, have you been pulled with a multi agency inspection yet?
  11. Having never seen one, let alone used one, I'm a little in the dark on the technical advantages/disadvantages over rope hitches. BUT, one thing concerns me about a huge lump of iron on my bridge. That is, if standing up on a branch with any level of speed, can this thing not swing like a huge wrecking ball and pendulum straight into your plums?
  12. We had our first frosty working day here on Tuesday and my 560 was a pig to start. When I got it spluttered out, gave it a good hammering and it was belting for the rest of the day!

  14. Mmmm, not sure they ever came out and accepted liability using that word exactly Huck, but it's interesting how things are worded these days. Although they are trying to be very informative with the modifications that have been made, they have still put in their disclaimer. Copy and pasted; "These two changes do not exempt the user from needing to be vigilant about the proper positioning of carabiners, whose strength is greatest when loaded on the major axis."
  15. Very nice smooth working there Mr Pine. Enjoyed that, thanks for posting. One wee thing I've spotted is the mark in the bark where you are going to back cut. Do you do this when you cut the gob to make it easier when you move around the back? Nice touch if so.
  16. Yeh, seen it too but usually when the face closes. By the time the face closes, there's a pretty good chance the stick has fallen in the required direction. On the occasion the buttresses tear out before the face close, it's more likely the stick would of been even further off target, had they been cut back first. They WILL of helped keeping direction before ripping out.
  17. Yeh, I understand that Tim, but, the whole idea of a hinge is to give direction of fell. The wider the hinge, the more stability and control of direction. Cutting buttresses, or "feathers" purely to fit the bar length, jeopardises the effectiveness of the hinge, especially if there is lean, decay or even wind. A much better use of the hinge is to leave it as wide as possible, and either get a bigger saw, or cut from both sides.
  18. Yeh, very true Chris, there's lots and lots of advice about what you should and shouldn't do when towing a landy! In reality, considering the daily abuse some of them get just being put through their designed uses, I've never heard of anyone having a box, diff, or axle going pop whole being towed. Last week however, I managed to pop a half shaft. This was pure abuse, being fully loaded, towing near 4tons and a slight wheel spin on Tarmac, it didn't like it. I'm sure it could of been towed for many, many miles with the same load without any damage! Lol!
  19. :lol::thumbup: Sounds like if you have the need for one in those "special" places its more justified spending the extra. If it all goes wrong though, you can still blame uncle Bob!
  20. Jim, just out of curiosity, what was the reason that led you to buy a battery saw?
  21. Funnily enough, I bought the machine from yourselves about 5 years ago! It's actually a vermeer 935i and has started being temperamental with the level of revs the roller kicks in and out of gear. Some days it fine, sometimes it almost kills the engine before knocking the roller off. Yesterday it was hardly dropping any revs and was painful waiting for it to feed. Just out of interest is there anyone working from Driffield these days, would be very handy for me?
  22. Peter, that looks like its worth looking into. Cheers. Mark, as a result of you living "down south" these days, you have forgotten your hardy northern attributes. We still work along with the theory "if it fits in that hole, throw it in"!
  23. Yeh, you guys are along my thinking. There's literally just a feed, speed sensor, solenoid and preset limits needed. Can't be much more complicated surely? Off to look at peters link now. Cheers mate.
