  1. Having just bought an echo 300 tele I got the info on these machines. The stihl can run a trimmer but not extended. It does have a clutch at the engine end, but as others said it's not as well engineered as the echos. The 300 echo is listed as being able to run the trimmer head, as is its smaller brother the 265, but when my dealer asked the uk importers tech guy, he said its advisable to only use the 300 closed up with the trimmer on due to the higher torque than the 265.
  2. I wish someone around me was selling at 35 quid, it'd save me a lot of work!

    Love it.

Yeh, spent many a year wielding a 281 in the woods back in the '80's! Funny how things have turned around, with my (dinky in comparison) 560xp, following 3 replacement starters, I'm advised to use the button every time or husky won't warranty it any more. The days of the sissy button being there to make easier starting have gone, now it's there so you don't bust the saw! Anyhow, for stubby feedback, lastnight I measured my bit of pipe and it's 15mm internal. Think it maybe worth a try duelled up on a standard pot. I've a spare can so guess the drill and welder will be coming out in the coming weeks.

Ah, nice one! That does sound a bit big dueled up on a standard pot, but I'm going out now to have a check on the bit of pipe I've got!

Yeh, the surface area of the exhaust outlet(s) should be as big as possible, but NOT over 80% of the surface area of the exhaust port. I was just being cheeky wondering if you could measure yours, but I guess it's not likely to be relevant as your pot will be a tad over standard! Lol! Guess I'm going to have to get the micrometer and calculator out!

Very nice! Loving the big air box and double dawgs. Did you mod the muffler yourself or buy in? I'm real curious to know the inside diameter of the exhaust pipes, as I think I've a bit of similar stuff in the workshop that could help my 372 "breath" a little better:001_huh:

I wouldn't worry about recoil damage, mines a few years old now, never had a spanner on it, and the sissy button has never been pressed!

Funny this popped up now, as yesterday we "raced" these two saws against each other. I have a 4 year old 372 that's had a fair amount of work but certainly not tired. My mate bought a new 576 last week and has had 2 or 3 tanks through it now. Cross cutting a 20" ring of scot pine, there was NO difference in speed. I know many other comparisons can be made between the old and the new, but I still have that warm feeling knowing the old school stuff needn't be embarrassed!
  9. Liked that, cheers for showing a bit of real life tree work.
  10. That Oregon bar of Robs looks very tempting though!
  11. Mmmm, I wonder how much a brand new 660 would be worth to anyone who wanted one right now? I happen to have seen one today in the depths of a dealers warehouse and tried justifying buying it myself. This was after using my old girl earlier in the day ringing up big pine. They are sure an awesome thing!
  12. Here you go; Guide bars
  13. Yep, got one on demo at the moment. Not a fan. In real terms, its a pruning saw. I'd say unless there's a particular need for not using a petrol saw, it doesn't justify the cost.
  14. Here you go, for all those who are interested just to wet your appetite; Windsor 100ft Reel Chisel Skip Tooth Chainsaw Chain 063?/1.6mm .3/8 (63APLX100R) | eBay Very good quality chain too. .
  15. Not sure about Rob, maybe worth asking him. As for grinding every other cutter out, its a no go. First thing is you'd end up with full skip, not semi. More importantly though, you'd cut out all one hand cutters leaving all the other hand ones, i.e, either be left with all left or all right cutters.
  16. Mmmm, not sure now Jon. Was years ago, got a box full of them:thumbup1: Think I came across the seller on scary bay if I remember right. There's plenty over the pond if you're willing to pay shipping.
  17. I'd just don a 36 on my 660 with semi skip. It will easily cope, in fact it will love it! Also, just for the record, I don't think its possible to "over do" a 660!
  18. Cheers matty, I think I'm going to have a word with my dealer and see if they will supply one at a good rate. They're echo dealers but seem to only sell hedge cutters in a big way, they only have the husky and stihl in stock, hence the thread. Funny how it seems no one has the husky!
  19. Erm, no. Hence the thread!:001_rolleyes:
  20. Ok, so all this talk of fitting this engine to make it a good pruner, correct me if I'm wrong, but the idea here is to pay 600 quid for the initial pruner, throw the engine away and spend another 350 quid on a real engine? Have I missed something?
  21. So is the echo telescopic? Sounds an interesting option as I love both my pole trimmer and single sided trimmers. Brilliant machines IMO.
  22. I've read a little about the angled head on the stihl, and Mr McTree has told me in the past they are a must, but anyone know if they're available on the husky? Can't find anything myself, so could be a deal breaker?
  23. I'm looking for feedback on a couple of different pole saws. I know there's loads out there, but looking for comments and feedback just on these two as they're what's available from my dealer; Husqvarna HU327PT5S & Stihl HT131. Many thanks, any comments would be great.
  24. They are ok johnny, but if you want a trimmer I'd go for the echo on front of this one.
  25. Just to clarify, that machine is actually a trimmer, not a cutter. Was it a cutter you were after?
