  1. Not really sure what you mean by that? My accountant puts in an "allowance" for the work my wife does, although she is not paid. Perfectly submissable.
  2. Dont think theres an easy and cheap alternative for that one!
  3. Why would it be tax evasion? ANY expense directly accountable to the business can be put against tax.
  4. Good on you Bob, you've got 20 years on me and i reverted to a 192 years ago:blushing: If it helps what state you get home in, it must be a good thing:thumbup:
  5. Nice one Dave, i guess you also found out, you dont need to use the loader when the trailer is raised:001_rolleyes: Good cheap fix, glad you got sorted:thumbup1:
  6. If you can get hold of one, its the best saw in its class:thumbup1:
  7. Thinking about it, there were two types of the column stick, the later one was slightly better as gears 1-4 were in a H setting, but the earlier one had 1st and 2nd towards the front, then, you had to stir the stick all around the cab to get 3rd, by then the tractor had drawn to a halt! Both types rendered the right hand side cab door useless too!
  8. Nice one, that will be the one with the gear sticks between your legs then, not the crappy one on the column! If the old girl has a set of pallet forks for the loader, i might be interested when the day comes:sneaky2:
  9. Looks nice. Very capable tractor. Is it 6610 with LP cab?
  10. No, you just live in an expensive place!
  11. But is urban forestry not part of forestry/farming? Sometimes it can be if the relevant benefits can be applied:sneaky2: In my 25 years experience of farming, the wages were very similar having a tied house or not. It is always in the farmers best interest to keep workers on site, for those unexpected events when they feel free to call on you!
  12. I wouldnt pay Hertfordshire living costs either! A LOT is relative to area!
  13. Going back to this original post, I would say coming from a farmer thats a strange attitude to compare to a plumber! Farming has been historically the second most dangerous job in the country, after building. In past years builders have sorted out their act. A "farm worker" at present, college trained and qualified to carry out some specific tasks with certificates such as forklift, fert spreader and sprayer will be earning somewhere in the region of £300 per week before overtime (if he is well looked after). Someone with relevant saw, chipper and climbing tickets working in arb will be at a similar amount wouldnt he?
  14. So do i, but i like your felling technique practice runs you do even more Nige, you know, the one you do before a fell when you dont even have the saw in hand:001_tt2: Its a very good way of running through the operation, and Im not critcizing, but it gives me a BIG smile when i see it:biggrin:
  15. Take it i wouldnt get out far then Andy:001_rolleyes:
  16. All spot on too Nige. My point was, if dealing with a tree where the center is mush, on a deep gob you only have whats there, whereas, if you can choose where the solid timber is wider in the hinge you can choose how much good wood to leave when boring! Hope that makes more sense:blushing:
  17. :congrats:Brill Jamie! Exactly my findings but i didnt have the time to write all that down lastnight:thumbup:
  18. Nice one Peter, obviously the outer parts of the hinge are the most important part and i realise you bored the center, but with a hollow tree or one like yours, you can sometimes wish you had a little more to play with. Glad we are singing from the same hymn sheet:thumbup1:
  19. Very nicely done Peter, and a nice set of pics. In hindsight, if you knew the extent of the central decay prior to cutting, would you have possibly cut a shallower gob? It appears from the pic of the stump, if the hinge was further forward it would have had much more holding wood and would have been wider too. Just throwing my thoughts forward:biggrin:
  20. If they are SE day rate, pay for bed and brekky. If employed, bed and all grub. Transport to and from included.
  21. Glad to hear all you lot had a blast:thumbup: Many thanks too, to frank for selling me the saw he won at a bargain price of £120. Guess he owed me a favour:thumbup1:
  22. On another note, why is England the only country in the UK that doesnt have a bank holiday for its patron saint day?
  23. Hi Paul, perhaps you can give us an update on progress through the week?
  24. Nothing to clear up really, i just thought we had reached a slight glimmer of hope of getting the "green waste" issue adressed with the EA by AA Paul, and since then, you seem to have had a pessimistic attitude to any progress being made.
  25. Some of your answers on this subject really do not help in the general course of this thread!
