  1. Yeah and I've used it countless times as a self belay device and work positioning tool, it's not fit for that purpose though. Many things I do are not strictly best practice and I do not claim it to be, you know me I'm ***** (pie key)but I get it done. If I went to 3atc event and they said I could not use it the fair enough I can see their point of view, what I do as a self employed climber is my business.
  2. Depends on your intended use! As a lanyard I see no problem, as a self belay device it's questionable.
  3. Unicender,,, that's so last season
  4. Technically it isn't for industrial applications as a belay device you'd never see it used as such in industrial access, it has no panic descnet featurefor a start. I'd also heard there is some question over its durability especially after high loads but cannot back that up so its just hear say. A lanyard for me is a positioning aid its no "lifeline" merely for balance and support at the extremities of the crown in this use for me it is highly suited.
  5. Pinto and hitch, I,m going to bin my cinch as its now worn out and will on grab rough 11mm lines, looking to make my own version of the ce lanyard as its even more versatile and smoother. But if I had to go mechanical Cinch all the way.
  6. Sure why not, I,ve been climbing on 10mm for several years albeit mainly access with some srt work positioning. My main concern is longevity/durability as platinum has a relatively thin outer compared to the usual working lines hence why I generally stick to using it for access only with a small amount of work positioning with a mechanical device.
  7. Ah I see fair enough.
  8. Hmm see I bought my tree magic after using yours and loved it, I still have and still love it, the tree motion though has the edge in freedom of movement such a great comfortable harness that just doesn't get in the way during work, imitated by many but none have come close. The tree core though looks a nice it's just that bridge set-up which is the make or break deal for me, anybody remember the komet morpho that has an interesting design but never seemed to take off. Hope you get on well with it Adam and keep us posted. Another thing this harness has a full suite of spares parts and add ons which will greatly improve its service life and usability.

    Petzl Pantin!

I just find it more ergonomic than pumping the pantin with one foot for those short ascents when there is nothing to get your other foot on.

    Petzl Pantin!

I use both a left and right to alternate and possibly relieve stress not only on my knee during ascent with a foot loop! When moving around the tree I'll footlock the tail. As for position not to high not to low just right. I know it makes a difference just at this moment I can explain why with words.
  11. Great work James. Also Mattyf's from a week ago.
  12. Huh? How is a long lanyard only for srt boys? been using a ditty bag and 10m line with cinch for several years now, also used to srt work position but never really made the transition as DRT work with srt access works very nicely for me.
  13. Stihl dealers are really winding me up of late. We bought 5 201's out of the 5 mine was the most sluggish, insisted on a retune (another thing they did not do a PDI!) they told me it would take 2-3 weeks as they have to send it to their specialist.... This sort of poor customer service is giving them a bad name. Anyway I tweaked it myself once its fully run in I'll get them to give me a tacho for a final tune up. All I can say about the 201 is its a full on screamer easily equal to a 200t in performance just not build! In short cl5325 insist on the sorting it for you, if you can do without the saw for a bit, tell them you want it running right or you money back.

    Don't forget the Vaseline!
  15. Wuss! Yet you still climb on that dodgy spider jack and the dodgy pulley saver all known to trash ropes from time to time. I am concerned, I also think we got to be realistic here and try to keep it positive and not trash the product. You are someone who is really into his kit and how it can help in the commercial tree work and being a product innovator yourself have got to appreciate teething problems may occur. Going on what surveyor has said I cannot believe a burr on these notches would cause this damage, the notches themselves are not a large enough radius for most diameters anyway so the rope is always in contact with that edge and if a burr was present I'd expect damage to show sooner as the rope will eventually polish defects, and wear the bollards as this is intentional from my understanding, I'm yet to see for sure what is causing this damage.
  16. I think its a shame mog if your rope is being damaged by the device it's not fit for purpose and you should be able to get your money back or a replacement that is, it's a premium product by a leading manufacturer after all! I don't think it's the pulley more the links that connect to the pulley, I'm only thinking out loud but appears my line runs slightly offset allow the rope to run onto the link. I hate to be an arse but the slightest bit of damage to my line and I want my money back.
  17. Yeah I had a good look at my zig zag today, now the anodising is wearing and surfaces are getting shiny I can see the wear/contact points, after looking at mogs pics trying to figure out where it could happen this area seems the most likely, it also appears my pulley has shifted slightly (only a mm) and looking at the tachyon pic In this thread which appears to have the wear on one side again makes this area look to "possibly" be the cause. I can't understand why they didn't make it wider and chamfered. I'll be monitoring it closely I'm concerned the pulley may touch the side causing it to pinch the rope. Joe can you get a pic of this area on yrs and post it? Also do it under load.
  18. Oh yes I've had that thick diaretic slush oozing from it and have to say it works just as well in the wet as the dry.
  19. I use a Zubat 330mm I use this more than any other saw, chainsaw included, all our reduction work is done with a silky Zubat, a sugoi is good just the Zubat is a better all rounder for fine and larger stuff, I'll bin the blade every 3 months or so.

Ha, tested 40 drops @2m onto concrete and barely a scratch, bombproof design. Lubricate the bag with Vaseline to reduce chances of it getting stuck, yet it never gets stuck as stated in the description. Not trying to knock it and at £13 great value I'd definetly like to try one.
  21. I had the Cresta but they felt a bit of a let down after the Crodas which were perfect. Have some LaSportiva trango evo's now but 6 months down the line are looking worn badly this damp wether is not helping. Going for Zamberlan Monsters next.
  22. A big swing can glaze your rope whatever you use, let's not try and trash the device until we we know all the facts. I'm still liking mine and zip about on it with no trouble, in fact so far I'd say its softer on my line that my old armour prus cord set up, it is still early days for me to give proper feed back.
  23. I'm sorry but they should do i'd also expect a replacement rope, so if it is happening we should kick some ass, get photo evidence and put a case forward to Petzl, this is a high end product from a reputable company......... I do not doubt what Mog says and he more than likely has climbed on his zz a lot more than me so i want to know if it is happening, i do not love it enough over my hitch to risk damaging my ropes.
  24. Rest day as a groundie! Sod that grounding is tough I'd rather climb.
  25. I,m not familiar with the construction other than it just have a portion of the core removed to house the rubber stiffy thingy, so would "assume" the outer is load bearing.
