  1. Have you not seen that these are now not recommended for use, due to a tragic fatality?
  2. I say, good guess there Liam:thumbup:
  3. Going by your manpower to do the job and estimated time to carry out work including clearance, I came up with 3900. I priced a beech last year, 3 quotes inc mine were in the low 2ks, the winner (?) was in at 1100. Win some, lose some:thumbup:
  4. I disagree that the incident was "incompetence", and think its unfair to call it as such. I dont know the area, I dont know the protocol within the police service re: these incidents, therefore I'd feel totally unqualified to praise or criticise. I would like to see all Police officers fire-arms trained (not PCSOs!!) with access and permissions to "protect and serve" the public. If this then meant an officer had to requisition a local persons firearm to do his duty and prevent further bloodshed, then at least he has the training. Unfortunately, the criminal seems to have more rights than the police or the public, so I'd presume all attempts were made to take him alive, hoping he would hole up and be talked down. I think protocol for these incidents is formed on past experiences, and obviously lessons are learned from each and every one. Its easy to sit here and say what you would have done, and i dont doubt for one minute one or two here would have a go. The incident took place over a 3hour period, could none of you within that 3hr window have not driven over and given the police a hand, or is it just talk? After all, its only 2hrs 16mins from huddersfield to cumbria, so you'd still get 45mins to find and disable the criminal:001_smile:
  5. Ah Ok with you now:thumbup1:
  6. MOQ? We produced a Charity calendar last year, sold out of copies in three weeks, but at 6.99 it only covered the costs of production, but the product was sold to raise awareness. To that end it did work. You do have to consider how many may buy it and what size production run, with a year-specific calendar you only have a small window of opportunity to sell, could be left with a lot left unsold. I'd buy a couple anyway, top idea:thumbup1:
  7. I've been trying to find replacement hinges for ages, even the manufacturers woudnt send them out:thumbdown:, but offered me a broken one for about 50quid:thumbdown:
  8. I've had one for ages, just watch the weight limit (95kg) or the front end buckles:blushing:, but its ok for carrying in bags still, just not sitting on anymore:crying:
  9. Didnt realise Alex was the solo Myerscough student, so well done mate:thumbup: Nice to see some youngsters are willing to go the extra mile these days.
  10. Good luck Tony, I'm sure you'll be fine:thumbup1:
  11. I hope they're at least as good as my current pair, awesomely comfy, supple and wearing well after about 2years:thumbup:
  12. Now you mention it, it looks as if she's peeling a baby rabbit in your avatar:biggrin:
  13. There's ways and means of dealing with things, and it doesnt always involve the internet. I hope that the issue is resolved between the parties and things move on.
  14. Thread removed.
  15. I think she was straight and upfront about it, shouldnt be an issue:thumbup1:
  16. I knew a subbie climber who handed his business cards to clients when subbing to another company.... he didnt last long....oh and he doesnt subby for anyone in the area anymore.....word gets around. But it seems this situation is a little different.
  17. Surely you dont expect me to walk 20metres???
  18. Better be, burnt of way too many calories today:biggrin:
  19. I can see where Tom is coming from. However, how much of your time is aerial, compared to training on the ground? Weighing this up, are the husky style helmets not a reasonably practicable alternative for students? I'm not saying they are right and you are wrong Tom, and I think its great that you are on the ball enough to bring this to their attention. Does anyone know of current practice at the other colleges? If I understand the posts correctly, had the college only recently bought the stock of helmets in, just prior to the latest HSE advisory, in which case would they not be deemed fit for purpose at the time of purpose, and upon expiry of their working life should be replaced with helmets meeting up-to-date regs? By Tom purchasing his own climbing helmet, yes he protects himself better, but by bringing the attention of the helmet issue up, he is actively trying to protect all the students.
  20. Have you notified the local auctions? I know Gaze auctions are very pro-active now when it comes to stolen kit.
  21. I totally agree, I've tried several types of plugs, not all are that good, but used in conjunction with defenders they'll give ideal all-round hearing protection. Back to the point you made regarding the strapping interfering with a good seal, ensuring the defender is between the strap each time certainly helps, but can be a pita.
  22. I do think the assemblies on helmets always will be a compromise, rather tan a solution to the problem. Not only will the straps allow in noise, but head movement, jaw movement (ie chewing gum). When using saws for any length of time I will pop in ear plugs, either as a back-up for defenders or in the summer bin the defenders and just use the plugs. Another advantage in the warmer months is the freer passage of air around your head, helping to reduce heat exhaustion. All the requirements in AFAG leaflet state is hearing protection complying with BS EN 352. It does not state (to my recollection) that 352 must be 352-1 (earmuffs) or 352-2 (plugs)
  23. hahahahaa love the Plipply before and after shots:lol:
